When it comes to rabbits, we always think of their long ears. This is one of their important traits. But do you want to know why they have such long ears
With their long ears, rabbits can pick up (收到) sounds from up to three kilometers away. Most rabbits can move their two ears in two different directions (方向). Each ear can rotate (旋转) up to 270 degrees. This allows them to detect sounds from all directions. When they hear the sounds of a wolf coming from a distance, the rabbits can quickly run for their lives.
Besides, rabbits have many blood vessels (血管) in their long ears. This can help them regulate (调节) their body temperature. When they feel hot, the blood vessels expand (扩张). This allows more blood to flow to its ears. As air blows over the ears, it cools the blood down. The blood then flows to other parts of the body and this also helps them to cool down. On cold days, these blood vessels shrink. And less blood will flow to the rabbits’ ears. This helps to cut down on heat loss. Aren’t rabbits’ ears very useful

Twenty years ago in Costa Rica, three girls found a baby sloth (树懒) on a road. The little animal’s mother was killed by a car. These girls took the baby sloth to Judy, the owner of a hotel. After her first success, more people brought Judy wounded (受伤的) sloths or baby sloths they found. Judy then opened a help centre. Today, the help centre has saved more than 500 sloths.
Sloths mainly live in the forests of Central America. We can also see some in South America. They hang onto the trees with their claws (爪). There are two main types of sloths. You can know them by the number of their claws. Sloths hardly move. They spend most of their time sleeping in the trees.
But now, with the increase (增长) of population, human beings (人类) cause a lot of problems for these slow and quiet animals. The main problem is that the forests are becoming smaller and smaller. When trees are cut down, sloths will fall and hurt themselves. Some sloths live near human beings and they sometimes are hit by cars or killed by dogs.
