When you're taking up sailing, learn the basics first. You should begin on a small boat made for kids. It works like any sailboat — with sails to catch the wind and push the boat forward. Are different kinds of natural disasters connected Two recent studies published in Nature Communications showed that climate patterns called climate teleconnections might be behind droughts(干旱) and wildfires around the world.
“Climate teleconnections are a kind of complex(复杂的) butterfly effect，” Sergio de Miguel, an ecosystem scientist in Spain, told Science News. Natural disasters in one place can be related to other disasters through such connections.
The new studies researched droughts and wildfires worldwide. In the first study, researchers used computers to turn the world's drought history (from 1901 to 2018) into a network of drought events. They discovered that El Nino appeared to be one of the reasons for droughts in South America, Africa and Australia. El Nino occurs when some areas of the South Pacific become unusually warm.
The second study compared satellite data on the global area of burned land from 1982 to 2018 with data on possible climate teleconnections. It showed that a pattern of sea surface temperature changes in the north of the equator in the Atlantic Ocean was related to the burned land around the globe.
Based on these findings, scientists may one day be able to predict natural disasters and allocate resources in advance.

When you're taking up sailing, learn the basics first. You should begin on a small boat made for kids. It works like any sailboat — with sails to catch the wind and push the boat forward. Are different kinds of natural disasters connected Two recent studies published in Nature Communications showed that climate patterns called climate teleconnections might be behind droughts(干旱) and wildfires around the world.
“Climate teleconnections are a kind of complex(复杂的) butterfly effect，” Sergio de Miguel, an ecosystem scientist in Spain, told Science News. Natural disasters in one place can be related to other disasters through such connections.
The new studies researched droughts and wildfires worldwide. In the first study, researchers used computers to turn the world's drought history (from 1901 to 2018) into a network of drought events. They discovered that El Nino appeared to be one of the reasons for droughts in South America, Africa and Australia. El Nino occurs when some areas of the South Pacific become unusually warm.
The second study compared satellite data on the global area of burned land from 1982 to 2018 with data on possible climate teleconnections. It showed that a pattern of sea surface temperature changes in the north of the equator in the Atlantic Ocean was related to the burned land around the globe.
Based on these findings, scientists may one day be able to predict natural disasters and allocate resources in advance.
