Hello, dear teachers. It's my great honor to present my lesson of unit two last weekend. B let's talk and let's learn period two, share your last weekend from pep book eight with you. Now, let me describe my lesson from the following 4 aspects, theoretical basis. Analysis of the whole unit, Analysis of the lesson and teaching procedure.
First and foremost, let's talk about the theoretical basis. In order to design my teaching plan. Well, I read the following teaching principles. According to the English curriculum standard published in 2022 and the core competences of English.
My teaching tried on students life-long development and educational creation. That means, during the lesson, the students can understand the knowledge, apply the language and finally have a creation. Secondly, the analysis of the whole unit will be discussed into teaching method, students, teaching aims and learning assessment.
The topic of this unit is about how to spend a reasonable weekend. Students will mainly learn about the thematic context of life and learning under the theme of Human and himself. So students should be able to talk about and ask others’ weekend activities in the past tense. From where the students stand,
what they have obtained before will do them a favor. So there is the vertical relation of the unit. They have learned to describe some activities in the 5th grade in general present tense. And it is the first time for them to know the past tense in this unit.
Furthermore, they will learn more about the past tense in the following units. And this is the horizontal relation of the unit. I divide the unit into 4 periods. Students can try to make a reasonable weekend step by step.
As for the students. In 6th grade, they are independent and be capable of group learning. Thus, I designed many group works in my lesson. They master certain abilities such as observation, discrimination, induction, inference and innovation.
And they have learned 3 English tenses in the past learning. Concerning the teaching aims. Period 1 provides the topic and thematic context for the students. Therefore, they can talk about some weekend activities in the past tense and master the regular past tense of verbs.
Period 2 stressed the key sentence patterns and thematic context and students can learn some irregular changes. Period 3 is about unhappy experience of last weekend, and in the period 4, the picture book the weekend bear was supplemented to guide students to make a reasonable weekend.
Lastly, because assessment plays an important role in teaching and learning. So I will ask my students to comment each other. What's more, another good way to evaluate students learning is the homework.
So they can do self-assessment and gradually understand, apply and create. After the unit design, here comes the analysis of the lesson. This integrated lesson is defined as listening and speaking one.
The dialogue is between John and Amy who are talking about their last weekend activities. The purpose of the text is to tell us how to ask others last weekend activities in the past tense. And The dialogue shows us we can use the sentences like “What did you do.. and “Did you.. ” to ask.
Based on Bloom’s Taxonomy, I set five teaching aims in this lesson from understanding and remembering level to analyzing and applying level, and eventually attaching to evaluating and creating level. Besides, I also applied 3 teaching methods in the lesson, which are communicative teaching method, skeleton teaching method, and situational teaching method.
Here comes my blackboard design. This blackboard was divided into three parts. The first part is the topic of this unit, and the second one is transformed from wechat interface with bubble boxes. So students can use the main sentences to communicate. Besides this part transformed from the wechat moments of the 4 main characters in the lesson, which presents key phrases here. So, with the help of the blackboard, the students can do well in output.
And the third part is about time vocabularies related to the past tense and the group PK area.
Now, let's see the most important part, teaching procedure.There are nine steps in the procedure which can be concluded into three parts, that is, learning and understanding, applying and practicing, and transferring innovations. Step 1 free talk , to review what the students have learned in the previous lesson.
Step 2, The teacher showed a video from wechat moment, which is a chant and students cooperate with the teacher to sing the chant together.
It livens of the class through the chant. And students can master 4 key irregular verbs and time words in the general past tense.
Step 3, presentation. This part sets the thematic context with the main line of wechat moment from John. And then the presentation of Let’s talk was dealt. By using skeleton text, the teacher designs the task into 4 levels and students learning strategies were gradually developed. Therefore, they can construct the text and promote their autonomous learning, and eventually read the dialogue beautifully in pair work.
Step 4 Practice.
It contains 2 kinds of tasks. Task one: Look and talk. The teacher supplemented 2 more characters to extend and continue the thematic context in the part of Let’s talk. And according to their Wechat moments in a skeleton text.
Students can try to finish the talk and do a role play with their group members. In order to practice sentences and phrases obtained in the lesson. As for task2: Think and say. Students write about their activities on a particular vacation on a study sheet and share them with their group. The others give some suggestions on weekend arrangement. It cultivates students thinking quality of summary reflection and suggestion through teachers questioning.
Step 5 Summary. The teacher raises 2 questions. What have you learned in this lesson And what will you do in the next weekend It guides students to cherish time in the form correct and positive life values.
Lastly, step 6, assignment. It provides basic and selective choices to reinforce knowledge in the language, which shows the feature of individualization and openness in assignment. Next, it guides students to summarize, sort out, review, reflect, and evaluate their learning.
Therefore, in the context of “double reduction” policy, we can better achieve the objectives of reducing burden, improving quality, and increasing efficiency. At last, I want to say something about the highlights of this lesson. First, guided by the theme, the main line of Wechat moments runs through the lesson design, and the lesson maintains the integrity of the unit teaching.
Number two, this lesson adheres to the concept of English learning activities and attaches importance to group cooperate learning. And number three, the lesson maintains the integration of “teaching-learning-evaluation”
