Unit 4 Amazing Plants and Animals形容词和副词最高级
一、定义：形容词和副词的最高级用于比较三个或三个以上的人或事物，表明在某方面
“最……”的性质、特征或动作程度。通过最高级，我们能够明确指出在多个对象中处于最突出
地位的那一个，使信息表达更加精确和具体 。比如，“The blue whale is the largest and the
heaviest animal in the world.”（蓝鲸是世界上最大且最重的动物。）这句话中，“the largest”
（最大的）和 “the heaviest”（最重的）就是最高级形式，清晰地表明了蓝鲸在动物中体型方
面的最突出特点。
二、形容词、副词最高级的构成：
规则变化：
（一）一般情况下，直接在形容词或副词后 + est。
如：“tall”（高的）变为 “tallest”（最高的） ；
“fast”（快地）变为 “fastest”（最快地）。
（二）以不发音的 -e 结尾的单词，直接 + st。
如：“nice”（好的）变为 “nicest”（最好的）；
“late”（晚的）变为 “latest”（最晚的）。
（三）以 “辅音字母 + y” 结尾的单词，变 y 为 i，再 + est。
如：“happy”（开心的）变为 “happiest”（最开心的）；
“early”（早地）变为 “earliest”（最早地）。
（四）末尾只有一个辅音字母的重读闭音节单词，双写该辅音字母，再 + est。
如：“big”（大的）变为 “biggest”（最大的）；
“hot”（热的）变为 “hottest”（最热的）。
（五）部分双音节和多音节单词，在单词前 + most。
如：“beautiful”（美丽的）变为 “most beautiful”（最美丽的）；
“carefully”（仔细地）变为 “most carefully”（最仔细地）。

不规则变化：有一些形容词和副词的最高级变化是不规则的，需要特殊记忆。
如：“good /well”（好的 / 好地）的最高级是 “best”（最好的 / 最好地）。
“bad /badly”（坏的 / 坏地）的最高级是 “worst”（最坏的 / 最坏地）。
“many /much”（许多）的最高级是 “most”（最多的）。
“little”（少的）的最高级是 “least”（最少的）。
“far”（远的）的最高级有 “farthest”（最远的，侧重于距离）和 “furthest”
（最远的，可指距离、程度等）。
“old” 的最高级有 “oldest”（最年长的，指年龄大小）和 “eldest”（最年长的，
常用于表示家庭成员间的长幼顺序）。
三、形容词、副词最高级的用法：
（一）三者或三者以上之间的比较
基本结构为：主语 + be 动词 + the + 形容词最高级 + 表示范围的短语或从句；主
语 + 实义动词 + （the） + 副词最高级 + 表示范围的短语或从句。
如：“The cheetah runs the fastest among all land animals.”
（猎豹在所有陆地动物中跑得最快。）；
“I think the most useful plant in the world is bamboo.”
（我认为世界上最有用的植物是竹子。）
（二）在三者或三者以上中选择
结构为：which/who is + the + 最高级，A, B or C
如：“Which is the most beautiful, the rose, the peony, or the lotus flower ”
（玫瑰、牡丹和莲花，哪一种最美丽？）
（三）最…… 之一
结构为：one of the +形容词最高级 +可数名词复数。
如：“Ginkgo trees are one of the oldest living trees on earth.”（银杏树是地

球上现存最古老的树木之一。）
（四）修饰最高级
为了更准确地表达最高程度，可以用一些词或短语来修饰最高级。常见的有 “by
far”（最……；显然） ，“nearly”（几乎），“almost”（几乎）等。
如：“This is by far the best movie I've ever seen.”
（这显然是我看过的最好的电影。）
（五）同级比较（与最高级相关的特殊情况）
在表达 “第二、第三…… 最……” 时，结构为：the + 序数词 + 最高级。
如：“The Amazon River is the second longest river in the world.”
（亚马逊河是世界上第二长的河流。）
四、使用最高级时的注意事项：
（一）使用最高级时，一定要有表示比较范围的短语或从句，如 “in...”（在…… 范围内），
“among...”（在…… 之中）等 。
如：“He is the tallest in his class.”
（他在他的班级里是最高的。）这里 “in his class” 明确了比较的范围。
（二）形容词最高级前一般要加定冠词 “the”，但当最高级前有物主代词、指示代词、名
词所有格等限定词时，不加 “the” 。
如：“This is my best friend.”（这是我最好的朋友。）
（三）副词最高级前的 “the” 可以省略 。
如：“He runs (the) fastest in our school.”（他在我们学校跑得最快。）

I think the most amazing animal is the octopus. It has a very strange appearance. It has eight long and
flexible tentacles, which look like long ropes. These tentacles are very useful. They can be used to catch food
and protect itself.
Octopuses live in the ocean. They are good at changing their colors. When they sense danger or want to
hunt, they can quickly change their body colors to blend in with the surroundings. This ability helps them
avoid being found by predators and catch prey more easily.
Octopuses are also very smart. They can solve simple problems. For example, they can figure out how to
