一、教材分析
1. 教学内容
本课时系教材《英语3（基础模块）》（高教版）第八单元的第二课时，包括reading and writing部分。课文通过阅读介绍住房安全注意事项，训练学生从文中提取和自己生活居住安全 相关信息的能力。
2. 教学重点、难点
1. 教学重点
训练学生扫读获取细节信息的能力。
学生通过仔细阅读，提取信息后完成信息表。
2. 教学难点
在活动前介绍扫读的方法，在阅读过程中注意对学生进行阅读方法的指导， 从而达到培
养学生学习能力的目的。
二、教学目标
1. 知识目标
能运用祈使句表达意见或建议。
2. 技能目标
能读懂有关注意安全事项的短文并概括其主旨。
能在图片和文字提示下运用关键词和短语描述有关的安全注意事项。
3. 情感目标
通过读写活动，能让学生注意个人和公共安全，树立文明和谐的社会公德意识。
三、教学步骤
Step I Lead-in
1. Look and match (Activity 10)
1) The students read the pictures. Describe them in English.
2) The students will work in pairs to discuss the pictures and the information. The teacher explains some keywords or phrases.
3) Read the information and match the pictures individually.
4) Check the answer and give the feedback. Reference answer:

（设计意图：学生通过读图获得感性认识，了解居住安全隐患的四种状况，通过把图片 和信息进行合理的匹配，为即将进行的阅读练习打好基础。）
2. Discuss and list (Activity 11)
Guide the students to review the sentences about suggestions and warning. And then divide them into groups. Ask them to discuss and list at least three suggestions about apartment safety. Encourage some volunteers to read their list and give the feedback.
Reference answers:
1) Don’t talk on the cellphone when walking toward the room.
2) Never leave a note on the door saying that you are away for only a few seconds.
3) Make sure all the locks are changed before you move in.

Step II Scan and choose (Activity 12)
Ask the students to scan the text and choose what we should pay attention to about apartment
safety. Check the answers and give the feedback. Reference answers:
(1) (F) haven’t mentioned in the passage.
(2) (T) according to “Stay alert when you enter your apartment.”
(3) (T) according to “Lock your windows when you go to bed or leave the apartment.”
(4) (T) according to “know your neighbors.”

(6) (F) according to “Don’t leave notes for roommates or guests on your door saying that you are away but will be home soon.”.

Step III Careful reading
1. Read and match (Activity 13)
Divide the students into groups. Ask them to read the passage again and match the situations to the solutions.
Check the answer and give the feedback.

2. Read and complete (Activity 14)
Work in groups. Read the passage carefully and fill in the form. At the same time underline the sentences in the passage.

Dos Don’ts
Change locks on all doors. Don’t leave copies of keys to others.
Stay alert when you enter your apartment. Don’t go inside when you arrive home and find your door open.
Know your neighbors. Don’t walk on your cell phone or look absent- minded when walking toward your building after dark.
Tell a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your apartment. Don’t leave notes for roommates or guests on your door.

Step IV Post reading
Discuss and describe (Activity 15)
Work in groups. Discuss and describe the following pictures. Ask some students to share their answers. If they have difficulties in organizing the sentences, the teacher can give them a
cue. Ask them to pay attention to the tense and the structure. Reference answers:
(1) Jack moved onto Oak tree Apartments today. He changed the locks of all doors.
(2) Jack visited neighbors just to say hello.
(3) Jack locked all windows before he went to bed.
(4) Jack asked his neighbor to keep an eye on his apartment before going for a vacation.
(5) Jack left a note on the door, saying that he would be back in a minute.
(6) To his great surprise, Jack found his apartment was broken into by thieves.

Step V Writing (Activity 16)
Ask the students to read the passage before filling it. Ask them to work in pairs and complete the passage. Encourage them to connect the sentences into paragraphs with conjunctions. The students who are good at English can also enrich the contents with their imagination.
Reference answers:
Jack moved into Oak tree Apartment three months ago. He knew thieves often used copies of keys to enter a house, and he changed the locks of all doors. Jack thought it would be a good idea to get to know the people in the building, so he visited them to say hello. Jack carefully locked all his windows every time before he went to bed. He also asked his neighbors to keep an eye on his apartment before going for a vacation.
Jack really had a good time living here. One day, however, when Jack hurried to the bank before his guests arrived, he left a note on the door, saying that he would be back in a minute. To his surprise, when he came back half an hour later, he found his apartment was broken into by thieves.
