I’m Rebecca. Tonight we will be talking about water.About 70% of the Earth’s surface is water. However, about 97% of the water on Earth is salt water. Salt water is not drinkable. Only about 3% of the water on our planet is fresh water, but most of it is ice. So, how much of the water can we use as drinking water Only about half a percent! And in many places, clean and safe drinking water is not easy to find.Why is water so important Well, most of the human body is water: around 60% in an average adult man. There is more water in some parts of the body. For example, about 75% of the brain is water. People can live for several weeks without food, but only for a few days without water. Human beings need around two to three litres of water per day. Athletes usually need more water. When it is hot outside, people need more water too. But people use a lot more water for other things, such as washing clothes and taking baths.There are many ways to save water. Having a bath can waste a lot of water, so it’s better to have a quick shower. Also, remember to turn off the tap when you brush your teeth.
