根据倒数第二段“But Jim never gave up! He taught himself by reading comic books every night under
the blankets with the flashlight. By doing this every day he taught himself how to read in three years. Finally, Jim got a

根据第一段“The fires produced more planet-heating carbon dioxide than any other extreme fire event
that has occurred since the turn of the 21st century, according to a study.(” 根据一项研究,自 21 世纪之交以来,火
Boreal forests grow where it is very cold.
The trees that live in this type of forest grow slowly and seal carbon in their trunks and roots for hundreds of years,
comprising a collection of trapped emissions that researchers call a carbon sink.”(北方的森林生长在非常寒冷的地
根据第四段中 “The researchers obtained the data for their study by tracking concentrations of
emissions in the atmosphere using satellites, and then they put that information into a computer model to determine where,
geographically, those emissions came from.”(研究人员通过使用卫星跟踪大气中的排放浓度来获得研究数据,然
根据文章第二段“But rising temperatures and related drought in these historically cool regions have led
to an increase in extreme wildfire activity and threaten to release the carbon stored in the trees that grow there,
transforming a carbon sink into a carbon source.”(但是,在这些历史上凉爽的地区,气温上升和相关的干旱导致
词后句中“but climate change threatens to release that carbon”(但气候变化有可能释放这种碳)可知,北方森林在
故选 A 项。
根据第一段“Two years ago, enormous fires swept through some 46 million acres of forest in Russia,
the country’s worst fire season on record. Now, researchers have a clearer sense of just how significant the 2021 boreal(北
方的)forest fires were in terms of emissions.”(两年前,大火席卷了俄罗斯约 4600 万英亩的森林,这是该国有记
B 37. G 38. C 39. A 40. F
Unless you positively invite danger — i.e. wandering around a dark park at 3 a.m. with headphones on —
In the case of taking taxis, always keep a record of the plate number and ask for
an estimated fare before setting off. You should also carry your ID card with you and always keep a back-up. And most
importantly, ensure that someone else knows your route and keep in regular contact with them.(在乘坐的士时,一定要记
It’s a good idea to write down some key numbers of friends, hotels and emergency services beforehand, and keep
some back-up money in your bag, just in case.(事先记下一些重要的朋友、酒店和应急服务机构的电话号码,并在包里
G。
根据上文“Many single travelers have a fear of eating alone.(许多单身旅行者都害怕一个人吃饭)”以及后文“You can bring
a book to avoid boredom, sit at counters to be less noticeable or use the opportunity to practice your foreign language
根据后文“This is another common concern when travelling alone. In fact, acquiring new companions (伙伴) is easier than
feared. You can smile at people, have open body language, read something interesting to start conversation, or ask strangers a
question. All these help you look approachable. More hands-on tips include visiting bars, joining tours or using apps designed
to help people make friends.(这是独自旅行时另一个常见的问题。
根据小标题“Enjoy it(享受它)”以及上文“Without having to consider others’ needs, the joy of solo travel is that you can be
entirely selfish: walk at your preferred pace, eat what and when you want, and go wherever you like to see the sights that
enjoy。

Good morning! My name is Li Hua. It’s an honour to be here and to share with you the story of how music has had an
impact on my life.
When it comes to music, we have our own stories. As for me, music actually offered me enough power to overcome
shortcomings. When failing in the middle exam, I felt so upset that I refused to communicate with my friends, even my parents.
When I heard some inspiring songs, which gave me confidence, I gradually ignored the failure and spared no efforts to study
hard. Finally, I made great progress in the final exam. From my experience, I hope that you can obtain the power which music
offers to achieve your own dreams.
Thanks for your listening

Hearing this, we all felt relieved. The classroom erupted in cheers and applause. Sarah clapped her hands, her eyes shining
with joy. “We saved a life today!” she exclaimed. I couldn’t help but smile, feeling a warm sense of pride. Mr Johnson praised
us for our teamwork and kindness, reminding us that even small actions could make a big difference. We decided to visit the
kitten after school to see how it was doing.
In the animal hospital, we saw the recovered kitten. It was resting in a cozy bed, its leg wrapped in a tiny cast. The
kitten looked much better, its eyes bright and curious. The vet told us it would need a few weeks to heal completely. “Who
will take care of it ” I asked. Mr Johnson smiled and said, “I’ve already spoken to the principal. The school will adopt it,
and we can all help take care of it.” We cheered again, knowing the kitten had found a safe home.

speed learning and best brain performance whose cutting edge techniques and impressive mental
achievements have made him a rock star of the personal transformation world.
At the age of five, Jim was sitting on a chair in his classroom. Suddenly, hearing a fire engine alarm, Jim
Kwik who saw firemen as superheroes lifted his chair and moved to the corridor to watch them. Standing over
the chair to watch the firemen, Jim Kwik was late to react as his fellow mate pulled his chair and he got his
head severely injured.
After that accident, he was never back to normal. He couldn’t remember and understand things, struggling
to cope with schooling as he said once that his heart would beat out of his chest whenever his teacher asked
him to read aloud a book in front of his classmates. He still remembered a teacher talking to other teachers
pointing him out and naming him as “a boy with the broken brain”.
His parents were very protective. But Jim never gave up! He taught himself by reading comic books every
night under the blankets with the flashlight. By doing this every day he taught himself how to read in three
years. Finally, Jim got a chance to have some success in school.

Neil Jordan,a conservation biologist, has come up with a novel method for protecting cattle from
African lions: paint eyes on their behinds. The lions will think their intended prey(猎物)has seen them and
will give up, since they've lost the element of surprise.
This psychological trickery has been called “iCow”,which is actually not as strange as it sounds. The
eye like patterns on butterfly wings are known to prevent preying birds and woodcutters in Indian forests wear
masks on the backs of their heads when working to discourage hungry tigers.
The inspiration for the iCow strategy came while Jordan was based in a village in Botswana, when two
lionesses were killed by local farmers to revenge their cattle's death. The African lion is a vulnerable species,
with numbers dropping from over 100, 000 in the 1990s to about 30,000 today.Much of that decline is due
to these kinds of revengeful killings because farmers have no effective strategies for protecting their herds.
“Lions are hunters that like to attack by surprise. They move slowly, quietly, and carefully to their prey,
get close, and jump on them unseen, ”he said. When Jordan was watching a lion follow an antelope one day,
he noticed the lion gave up the hunt once the antelope spotted it.
So he joined one of the local farmers on a 10 week trial study, painting eyes on one third of a herd of 62
cattle. When the cattle returned each night, they took a head count to see how many had survived. Only three
cows were killed by lions during this period—all without the painted eyes on their behinds. And all the painted
cows survived. However, Jordan warned that so far this is just a promising idea. He is now back in Botswana
for a more ambitious study, equipped with GPS devices to better monitor the movement of predators(捕食
者)and prey.
28.The iCow strategy is designed to .
A.kill the lions
B.scare off predators
C.identify cattle
D.have fun
29.When hunting,lions like to .
A.give up halfway
B.hesitate to take action
C.chase their prey steadily
D.launch surprising attacks
30.What does the underlined word “vulnerable” mean in the third paragraph
A.Badly behaved.
B.Likely to attack.
C.Easily cheated.
D.Easily damaged.
31.What can be inferred from the passage
A.Neil Jordan got the inspiration from the patterns on butterfly wings.
B.In the 10 week trial study, more cattle were killed.
C.The iCow strategy is likely to bring great benefit.
D.The farmers will continue to take their revenge on the lions.

Two years ago, enormous fires swept through some 46 million acres of forest in Russia, the country’s
worst fire season on record. Now, researchers have a clearer sense of just how significant the 2021 boreal(北
方的)forest fires were in terms of emissions. The fires produced more planet heating carbon dioxide than any
other extreme fire event that has occurred since the turn of the 21st century, according to a study.
Boreal forests grow where it is very cold. The trees that live in this type of forest grow slowly and seal
(封存) carbon in their trunks and roots for hundreds of years, comprising a collection of trapped emissions
that researchers call a carbon sink. But rising temperatures and related drought in these historically cool regions
have led to an increase in extreme wildfire activity and threaten to release the carbon stored in the trees that
grow there, transforming a carbon sink into a carbon source.
In all, fires in boreal forests released the carbon sink and produced nearly half a billion metric tons of
carbon in 2021. That’s more carbon than the entire continent of Australia produced the same year, though some
of the emissions produced by the fires will be sucked back up as forests regrow.
The researchers obtained the data for their study by tracking concentrations of emissions in the
atmosphere using satellites, and then they put that information into a computer model to determine where,
geographically, those emissions came from. They found that boreal forests, which typically produce about 10
percent of the globe’s annual wildfire emissions, accounted for 23 percent of the world’s wildfire emissions in
2021—more than twice as much as normal.
Canadell, who led the study, is most concerned about the study’s main takeaway; Boreal forests have
served an important and underappreciated role in sequestering carbon emissions, but climate change threatens
to release that carbon. “We need to be very careful with these systems in terms of their future development.”
he said.
32. What is the function of paragraph 2
A. To indicate the seriousness of the fire.
B. To illustrate two scientific concepts.
C. To explain the source of carbon.
D. To show the importance of boreal forests.
33. How did the scientists get needed data
A. By searching on the website. B. By employing technology.
C. By analyzing previous data. D. By turning to the firefighters.
34. What does the underlined word “sequestering” in paragraph 5 probably mean
A. stopping. B. increasing. C. monitoring. D. assessing.
35. What is mainly talked about in the text
A. The reasons for the forest fires in the north.
B. The impact of the 2021 boreal forest fires.
C. The link between fires and carbon dioxide.
D. The increasingly growing carbon emissions.

短文。
The sun was shining brightly during our PE class as we ran laps around the busy playground. With
laughter and cheers all around me, I took a short break near the field’s edge to catch my breath. It was then
that I heard a faint mewing sound. Following the sound, I finally spotted a tiny kitten. It looked scared and
hurt, its leg twisted at a strange angle.
“Hey, guys! Come here!” I called out to my classmates. They gathered around, their faces filled with
concern. “We need to help it,” said Sarah. We all agreed. Carefully, I picked up the kitten, feeling its tiny
body shake in my hands. It was so small and weak.
We decided to seek help from our kind PE teacher, Mr Johnson. “Mr Johnson, we found this poor kitten,
and it seems badly hurt,” I said, holding it out to him. He looked at the kitten and then at us, a serious
expression crossing his face. “Let me call the school nurse Mrs Thompson,” he said.
Before Mrs Thompson came, we quickly made a makeshift stretcher (临时担架) using a towel and two
sticks, and gently placed the kitten on it with Mr Johnson’s direction. A moment later, Mrs Thompson came
running with a first aid kit. As she examined the kitten, we all held our breath. “It looks like it has a broken
leg,” she said. “We need to get it to the animal hospital immediately.” Mr Johnson nodded and told us to go
back to the classroom after the PE class was over. Then, he and Mrs Thompson took the kitten to the vet.
The rest of the day was a blur. We could only think about the kitten, hoping it would be fine. Before the
school was over, Mr Johnson returned to the classroom with a big smile on his face. “Good news, kids!” he
announced. “The kitten’s surgery was a success. The vet said that with proper care it would make a full
recovery.”
Hearing this, we all felt relieved.
In the animal hospital, we saw the recovered kitten.
