I was driving to town on a beautiful summer day. The sky was full of clouds. The sun was dancing through the green trees with its golden light and I was smiling at the wonder of it.
Suddenly, a truck rounded in front of me,two feet over the center line. I pulled my wheel to the right as I just missed the truck on one side and a ditch (沟) on the other side. I noticed the other driver looking at his cell phone totally unaware of the near miss. I closed my mouth in order to avoid saying the words that I promised myself I would no longer use.
Later in town, I was coming out of a store when a yellow butterfly started to circle around my head. I smiled peacefully and held out my open hand. To my joy, the butterfly landed on it briefly and swung its wings before flying away. I looked around to see if anyone else noticed this small wonder, but the only two people near me had their heads down, looking at their cell phone screens.
I began to think that life is what happens while people are busy looking at their smart phones. Now I know that social media, computers and smart phones are all necessaries in our lives, but it doesn't mean that they have to control our days or take over our lives. Amazingly, they all come with a power button. We can tum them off anytime we wish to.
Don't let your smart phone take away your smart mind. Don't let technology take over your soul. Use it when you need it, and turn it off when you don't. Turn your heart on more and our phone on less. Share your kindness, your joy, your hugs, your laughter and your life that make others smile.

D.being buried in a cell phone may make one miss something good
27.What's the writer's attitude towards people's spending much time on cell phones
A.Unconcerned B.Doubtful C.Negative D.Supportive

Tens of millions of bees are likely being killed each day by vehicles in the western United States, a new study finds. The paper published in Sustainable Environment is the first to show how cars may be causing the loss of bees. Bees are important because they help pollinate (传粉) wild plants and a third of the world’s crops.
Scientists have studied the “insect disaster” by counting dead insects along roadsides. Most studies have focused on forests and larger insects. But bee diversity (多样性) is greatest in dry, open areas, and most bees are tiny — just 2 to 25 millimeters long.
A research team from Utah State University studied bee deaths by driving on highways, paved roads, and unpaved roads during the day when bees are active. They made 29 trips around Utah in spring and summer, traveling more than 9,334 kilometers, and identified bees that were hit by cars. Every trip resulted in at least one bee death, and they found 14 different species.
The researchers guessed that one car driving between Salt Lake City and Moab might kill 50 to 175 bees. Based on traffic data, that means several million bees are killed when 94,000 cars travel that route each day. Millions of cars run in Utah daily, and similar trips happen in nearby states, so the total number of bees killed each day in the region is likely in the tens of millions.
Although the numbers are based on simple assumptions, they are still important. There are ways to reduce these deaths. Research has shown that bees usually avoid crossing roads unless there are plants in the middle. So, creating healthy habitat along both sides of a road, but not in the middle, could help.
28.What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A.Limitations on such studies. B.The influence of climate on bees.
C.Living areas of various bees. D.Scientists’ efforts to study diversity.
29.How does the author mainly develop paragraph 3 and paragraph 4
A.By presenting examples. B.By listing related numbers.
C.By making a comparison. D.By providing cause and effect.
30.Which is one way to prevent bees from being killed
A.Raising drivers’ awareness. B.Placing flowers in the middle.
C.Growing plants on roadsides. D.Leaving more space available.
31.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A.To explain the bee’s diversity. B.To remind readers to drive less.
C.To introduce the danger to bees. D.To ask people to grow more flowers.
D
Chinese New Year used to be a daylong celebration for us. My parents tried really hard to recreate the season for my sisters and me here in America. On New Year’s day, my family, including all my uncles, aunts, and cousins, dressed in new clothes, gathered at my grandma’s house. Kids were pulled out of school, and adults took the day off. The celebration lasted throughout the day and late into the night, with one tradition following another.
Fast-forward to 2019: My grandma has passed away, the adults are elderly, and the kids have grown up and are living their own life. The Chinese New Year celebration is no longer elaborate as it used to be many years ago. As we melt into American culture, the “olden ways”, as we call them, have fallen away. Life seems to have got busier and much more complex, but I often feel something is missing.
For us first generation kids, it is often easier to let go of the traditions and customs of our parents’. They don’t mean as much to us as they do for them. At the same time, they are still a part of our culture. I realized that the diaspora (流散) of young Asian American in the United Sates is not unique to me. It is an ongoing inner struggle that we all wrestle with. My Asian features and skin colour do not entirely define who I am. I am as much a “hamburger” guy as a “rice” individual. I can’t quite fully claim that I am an American and not fully Asian. There isn’t really a check box that I can mark. I am Chinese-Vietnamese-Asian-American.
I now have two little boys. It saddens me to think they will never be able to experience what my sisters and I did as little kids during this holiday. Recently, for the first time, I’ve hung up Chinese New Year decorations around the house and replaced our Christmas wreath (花环) on the front door with decorative firecrackers. In a way, my sons are forcing me to slow down and explore my cultural heritage.
32.What do we learn about the author’s family
A.They lived a very hard life in America.
B.They regarded the Chinese New Year as an important event.
C.They once lost the tradition of honoring Chinese New Year.
D.They paid little attention to children’s education.
33.What does the underlined word “elaborate” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.Carefully prepared and organized. B.Extremely simple and easy.
C.Unbelievable and sacred. D.Expensive and fascinating.
34.Why does the author mention “hamburger” and “rice” In Paragraph 3
A.To suggest meal choices. B.To show multiple identities.
C.To admire different customs. D.To compare personal tastes.
35.What message does the author seem to deliver in the text
A.We should strengthen family bonds. B.We are what we choose to be.
C.Passing down family traditions is important. D.Knowing yourself is a lifelong process.

It was an early winter morning. Joan was sleeping soundly when the phone rang in the living room. She rolled over and glanced at the clock on the wall—it was already nine o’clock. Every weekend morning, her mother had to work part-time in the cafe. Although Joan was still sleepy, she knew she had to get up. After all, she didn’t expect her brother Mike, who was sleeping like a log, to hear the phone. When she picked up the receiver, on the other end came the warmhearted greetings,“Good morning, my Dear!” Recognizing the voice from her father, Joan was immediately surrounded by a sense of joy and the sleepiness swept away.
Joan’s father was a seaman, who rarely came back. Working on the sea was really hard.Born in a not-rich family, Joan and Mike felt the stress of life but they were happy to enjoy the family atmosphere. “Good morning, Dad, what’s up ” Joan said in an easy tone. “Today is your mother’s birthday, and I have ordered her a cake online and it should come to the house in one and half an hour. Do remember to take the cake.”
Hearing her father’s words, Joan felt a little ashamed. How she could forget Mum’s birthday! She took a glance at the dirty clothes piled on the sofa and the oily floor that hadn’t been mopped(拖地) for a few days—There was two hours before her mother came back. She calculated they had enough time to prepare a surprise for Mum.
Thinking of this, she felt full of excitement. “Well, Dad, now I’m going to wake Mike up. We will give Mum a surprise !” Joan hung up the phone with Dad, and hurriedly went to Mike’s room to share him her Big Cleaning plan. After listening to Joan, Mike readily accepted her idea.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;(2)开头已给出。

Good morning, my dear teacher and fellow classmates! It’s my great honor to be here to discuss with you the topic—what influence music has on our study and life.
Firstly, music not only enriches our knowledge but also helps reduce our pressure. Secondly, music helps to cultivate our minds by equipping us with more skills, which can promote our intellectual development. Last but not least, learning music also helps develop our creativity.
In my opinion, middle schools should attach importance to music lessons, as music plays an important part in our daily lives. Besides, we all should be aware of the importance of music and make it part of our study and life. Thanks for your listening!
二.读后续写
The Big Cleaning plan began. Joan collected the clothes from sofa and then put them in the water of a basin. After pouring in some washing liquids, she began to wash them by hand. Realizing the clothes were clean enough, Joan gently squeezed water out and hung them to dry. Meanwhile, Mike was busy mopping the floor back and forth with all his strength, really aware of what hard work his Mum had at home! They had just finished the cleaning when the express boy came to the door.
With the cake placed on the table, Mum came in.“Happy birthday, Mum!”, they greeted in chorus. Confused and surprised, Mum stood frozen. When Mum realized what had happened, a warm current rose in her heart. Staring at the clean floor and the washed clothes, she could hardly contain her excitement and hugged them tightly, “It is the best birthday gift I have ever had!” Mum said emotionally. Just then Joan took out her smartphone and took a happy video named Mum’s Birthday and sent it to Dad.
