Have you ever poured water onto your shirt right before an important event Usually, clothes darken in
color when they get wet. Why do clothes often appear darker when they get wet
Before understanding this question, we should first take a quick look at how we “see” colors. Take a red
shirt as an example. When it is under the sun, it absorbs (吸收) different wavelengths (波长) of light, except
for the red light wavelength. The red light wavelength is reflected (反射) to our eyes. That is why the shirt
appears red to us.
Now let’s return to the wet shirt. When the light hits a wet shirt, it has to pass through the water on the
shirt. The light that should be reflected by the shirt is re-absorbed by the water. This means less light will be
sent to our eyes. As a result, the shirt looks “darker”.
But remember, sometimes a wet shirt can seem brighter from some special angles (角度) of watching.
The surface of a shirt is usually rough (粗糙的). Adding water to it makes it smoother. A smooth surface
reflects light in a different way from a rough surface. So you may see a small and bright reflection of the
light from a certain angle. So basically, a wet shirt will be darker than a dry one, but it can also appear more
“shiny” at times.
( )19.How does the writer explain how we “see” colors from the text
A.By telling a story. B.By giving an example.
C.By sharing an experience. D.By showing a fact.
( )20.What will happen after the light passes through the water on the shirt
A.More light will be sent to our eyes.
B.Certain light will be re-absorbed by the water.
C.The water on the shirt will be absorbed.
D.The light reflected by water will be reduced.
( )21.What can we infer from the text
A.The light makes the clothes look smooth.
B.Adding water to the surface changes anything.
C.Being wet will certainly make clothes look shiny.
D.The more light gets in our eyes, the brighter clothes are.
( )22.What’s the purpose of the passage
A.To show the red light wavelength is reflected to our eyes.
B.To explain why clothes often darker when they get wet.
C.To let us understand why clothes often appear more “shiny” at times.
D.To warn us not to pour water onto the shirt before an event.

Having a part-time job is an important part of growing up for American teenagers. They can learn some
important skills by doing a part-time job. They can also make some money in this way. Many teenagers
believe that making their own money makes them feel free and proud.
American teenagers can do part-time jobs at the age of 14. During the school year, teenagers may go to
work a few hours a week after school, and they usually work for longer on weekends.
In summer, American teenagers are glad if they find part-time jobs at camps, swimming pools and
amusement parks. These jobs can bring them much fun.
Some of the most stressful (压力大的) jobs are teaching, nursing (护理), and police work. But these
jobs can be useful for their future. When they grow up, the students with work experience are more likely to
succeed than those without work experience.
A favorite job for many teenagers is taking care of babies, and they can start before the age of 14. What
they only do is to stay in the house and make sure the kids are okay. At the same time, they can do their
homework, watch TV, or talk on the phone with friends.
It is important to balance (平衡) school, homework, and a part-time job. However, many American
teenagers value their work experience and the skills they get from the job.

Have you ever paid attention to your school’s security guards or dining hall staff Would you say “good
morning” to your school cleaners For high school student Ding Jiacheng, it’s a problem that many students
ignore the jobs done by non-teaching workers. He wanted to make a change.
The boy together with several other students, worked on a project. They hoped more students would see
and respect the non-teaching workers on campus. The project won a prize at China Thinks Big, a
competition held by Harvard University and Tsinghua University to encourage teenagers to study social
issues.
“My team members and I sent questionnaires to 160 students,” said Ding. “In one question, 60 per cent
of the students said they would greet those non-teaching workers, while only 17 per cent strongly believe
that every student should do so.”
The team also observed interactions between students and workers. “When most students follow the
rules of their teachers, one third of the students go against the rules of the dormitory attendants (宿舍管理
员),” said Ding.
The main reason, according to Ding, is that they know little about them. They also have few chances to
communicate with them. Therefore, Ding’s team shot videos to show non-teaching workers working around
campus. They also held a basketball match between students and non-teaching workers to increase their
interaction.
“We’ve also made a series of stickers,” said Ding. “We hope these cute images will help young people
like the non-teaching workers more.”

C.making a series of stickers about the non-teaching workers
D.writing articles to help students know more about non-teaching workers

ignore the jobs done by non-teaching workers. He wanted to make a change.

【答案】
One Thing I Keep Doing Every Day
As we know, what we keep doing every day is very important for us to achieve our goals. That’s why I
keep reading every day no matter how busy I am.
I usually spend one hour a day reading my favourite books and I often share what I read with my
friends. Honestly speaking, reading not only brings me knowledge, but also teaches me how to get on well
with others and how to be a better person.
Keep reading helps me open my eyes to the outside world. The more I read, the wiser I will be. And I
hope everyone can insist on doing something useful to them every day.
