Robots seem very new to most people. You may see them in some films. In the future, they usually help people do dangerous, difficult or boring jobs. We don't have to do things like washing the dishes or making the beds.
The Earth will also be an easy place to live. There will be fewer cars, less pollution and more trees in the future. We will have more free time. Everything will be free. We will be able to do shopping without money. Doctors will be able to keep us alive for a long time. There will be more e-schools. Children will study at home on the Internet. Pictures are falling off the wall. Lights are waving. Bed is shaking. Everything is moving. What's going on It's an earthquake.
Earthquakes are horrible disasters (灾难) and some of them are destructive (毁灭性的). The top layer of the earth is made up of huge pieces of rock. They move past each other all the time along fault lines(裂纹线). But sometimes two pieces get stuck together. When they finally move away from each other, they move suddenly. And this makes the land above them shake. This is the most common cause of earthquakes.
During a small earthquake, you will feel a little shaking. But during a strong one, you will be thrown about. A strong earthquake is very horrible. Cracks will appear on the ground and windows and doors will break. Buildings will even fall down. So watch out! If an earthquake happens at sea, it can make big waves called "tsunamis" (海啸). When these waves reach land, they can destroy villages.
Earthquakes are measured (测量) on a scale (等级) of 0-9. It is called the Richter scale. A size 9 earthquake is the strongest and most dangerous. Since 1900, more than two million people have died in earthquakes. In 1976, a size 7.8 earthquake hit Tangshan, China. It killed more than 240,000 people!
Many earthquakes happened in China, so it is important for us to know what to do when an earthquake hits. Here are some tips on how to stay safe in an earthquake.
Indoors
Hide under a desk or bed. Stay away from windows and anything that could fall on you.
Do not get into a lift during an earthquake! When an earthquake has ended, stay under the desk until it is really safe to get up.
Open a window and get out of the building quickly if the gas line in your house is broke.
Outdoors
Move away from buildings and street lights.
Do not run outside if you are in a shop and far from the door.
Make sure you wear shoes after an earthquake. There may be broken glass on the ground.

回答问题。
Eye contact
Eye contact means looking into another person's eyes. This is a very important part of body language. It can be the key to communication. Eye contact can show feelings such as friendliness, interest and understanding.
In Western countries, using eye contact in conversations is very important. If you do not use eye contact, Westerners may think that you are not listening. And if you look away, they may also think that you are lying.
However, in many Asian countries, looking down when talking with an older person, like a teacher or a parent, is polite. These differences can cause problems. For example, an Asian person might look down while listening to a Western speaker. The Western speaker might think this person is not interested in what he or she is saying.
Not using eye contact can cause problems, but using too much is not polite either. In many countries, watching other people, especially strangers, for a long time is impolite. This may make them feel nervous.
3.What is the passage about
4.Why is eye contact the key to communication
5.If you do not use eye contact in western countries, what may happen

When IDr. Karen McComb came to Amboseli Park, her first task was to learn the names of the one hundred or so elephants most often seen.
Scientists working in the park have learned to study elephants by watching them up close. They have a list of almost one thousand elephants. There are records for all of the elephants born since 1972. Amboseli was a good place for Dr. McComb to study animal communication. Elephants were a great subject because their lifestyle depends on communication.
Dr. McComb and her team had learned a lot about elephant communication, but they kept on thinking about one puzzling watch. Some families were better at distinguishing calls of friends from those of strangers.
What made some families smarter than others The scientists searched their records for an explanation. To their surprise, there was only one factor of importance: The "smartest" families always had the oldest grandmothers. A family, as it did in all other activities, waited for some signal from the grandmother when they heard a strange contact call. And older, more experienced grandmothers were better at telling whether other elephants were strangers or friends just by their calls.
That was an important discovery. It showed how an elephant family depends on the experience of the grandmother.
(1)How do scientists working in the park study elephants
(2)What did Dr. McComb study
(3)What did Dr. McComb and her team do for an explanation
(4)Who does everyone in elephant families listen to
(5)What does an elephant family depend on in all the activities

And he stood in front of the movie theater and thought about all the Saturday afternoons he used to spend there, watching his favorite movie heroes and eating popcorn.
He did things he hasn't done for a long time. He had some home-made ice cream at the ice cream shop. He rode on the merry-go-round in the park, and he went fishing at the lake. For a little while, he felt like a kid again.
He saw people he hasn't seen for many years. He visited several of his old neighbors. He said hello to the owners of the candy store near his house. And he also went to see Mrs. Riley, his ninth-grade science teacher.

Once a king got two nice falcons (猎鹰) from his son. He had never seen such beautiful falcons before. He loved them so much and he ordered the best falconer to train them to fly.
After several months, the king came to see how the training was going on. He found that one falcon had already been able to fly high in the sky, while the other one was staying on the branch (树枝) of a tree quietly without moving.
The king called all his falconers together and ordered them to try every way they could to make it fly. But none of them succeeded. One day, while the king was taking a walk in the forest, an idea came to his mind. He decided to find someone who knew the natural environment well to solve the problem. Then he sent for a farmer who lived in the forest into his palace to train it at once.
The next morning, the king saw the other falcon flying above in the sky freely. "It is unbelievable! "shouted the king. "How could you make it happen "
The farmer replied, "It's very easy. I just cut off the branch where the falcon rested."
It is always the same to humans. We all have "two flying wings" in our hearts as well, but we often seem not to notice them and stay where we feel safe and comfortable. We won't realize we can fly so high and freely until the "branch" we are resting on breaks.

Life offers so many lessons, both practical and personal, that you are never too young to begin learning them. Here are some skills to learn as soon as possible.
Money Management
When you start receiving money of your own, it's time to start understanding your relationship with money. In a world where you can buy and sell every object, the key is to save money by buying only essentials (必需品) and a treat sometimes.
Cooking
One great way to save money is to learn to cook for yourself. Beyond that, cooking at home also helps you control your diet for better health. If you start doing this at an early age, you will not have to depend on your parents too much.
Keeping Promises
Promises are a matter of honesty and should be made with care. We must learn from an early age that our word must be followed by action. When it isn't, others will quickly lose trust in us and not respect us.
Accepting Rejections (拒绝)
Though you must be careful not to break your word, others' promises aren't always kept. Learn about it early, and you won't be hurt easily. Also, not every job application or desired (渴望的) friendship will work out, so remember that there are more fish in the sea.
Lifelong Learning
No matter how old you get, there will always be things beyond your understanding. It's better to learn to be modest now rather than take a proud fall later in life. Be open to new experiences and keep learning. And it's never too late to start.
(1)How many skills are talked about in the passage
(2)Which two skills can help you save money
(3)If one of your friends breaks his promise to you, will you be angry Why or why not

The ride made me feel a little sick, so she bought a bottle of water for me. After that, we went to the restaurant at the park. It was a special restaurant because you can sing songs on the stage there. My friend sang an English song for me. It made me moved because it was my favorite song. She always knew me well. This experience left me with a lot of good memories and made our friendship stronger. I would never forget that day because I was really happy and moved.
