通过本课时的学习,学生能够: 1. 阅读社区中心通知,获取社区活动时间、地点、服务内容等关键信息,向他人介绍社区中心不同部门的服务内容;学习通知语篇的基本阅读技巧,思考社区中心还能提供的其他服务内容; 2. 收听两位邻居向社区中心的求助咨询电话内容,完成关键信息的提取和记录,并向他人转述; 3. 模仿Simon和Annie的对话,谈论分享自己能为不同社区活动所能做的事情,培养作为社区居民的合作意识和主人翁精神; 4. 模仿Simon的范文完成一篇演讲稿,讲述自己为社区做贡献的具体计划,并号召更多的邻居一起践行共享互助理念,共建文明和谐社区。
教学内容

教学过程
Step 1 Think and answer Have students answer the following questions. What activities does Simon’s community have Can you introduce something about them Step 2 Read and complete 1. Have students read the tip on page 26 and get to know how to get the key information quickly from notices. 2. Have students read the notices and complete the chart. Step 3 Read and answer Have students read the notices again and answer the two questions in Part A on page 26. 1. Which club can help you if you have a problem with your phone 2. What other kinds of help can a community centre offer Step 4 Listen and complete 1. Have students predict the answers to Part B on page 26 according to the available information. 2. Have students listen to the conversation and finish Part B on page 26. 3. Have students answer the following question. Can you please tell the community centre about Mr Li’s and Mrs Chen’s needs Step 5 View and answer Have students look at the picture in Part C on page 27 and answer the following questions. (1) Where are the people probably (2) What may they be doing Step 6 Listen and answer Have students listen to the conversation in Part C on page 27 and answer the following questions. (1) What is Annie going to do tomorrow (2) What is Simon going to do for the activity Step 7 Read and act Have students read the conversation along with the recording and then read in different roles. Step 8 Read and think Have students answer the following questions. Can you give Annie some advice about what she can do to help the book club meeting Can you think of another community activity and talk about what you will do for it Step 9 Brainstorm and answer Have students brainstorm and answer the following question. What can we do to make our community a better place to live in Step 10 Read and find 1. Have students read Simon’s mind map in Part D1 on page 27 and talk about what he can do for his community. 2. Have students read Simon’s speech script in Part D2 on page 28 and answer the following questions. How many parts are there in Simon’s speech script What are they 3. Have students find useful expressions in the article and come up with more. Then have students finish the chart below. Step 11 Read and analyse Have students answer the following question. How does Simon make the speech more convincing Step 12 Think and plan Have students draw a mind map of what they can do for their communities. Step 13 Write and share Have students finish a speech script about what they can do for their communities. They can refer to Part D2 and “Useful expressions” on page 28 to guide their writing in terms of structure, content and expressions. Step 14 Check and improve 1. Have students check their writing after they finish and exchange drafts with their partners for review. Then have students revise their speech scripts. 2. Have students make speeches in class, evaluate which one is the best and learn from each other. Step 15 Homework Compulsory homework: 1. Complete and polish your speech script and share it with others. 2. Review the whole unit and preview the next unit. Optional homework: Collect more ideas about what you can do for your communities.
