Long ago, a king received two baby eagles (鹰) as a gift. The eagles were a very special species (品种), and the king loved them very much. He invited an experienced caretaker to look after them.
As time passed, the king noticed that both eagles grew big and looked even more amazing than before. The king wished to see them fly. However, as the caretaker set them free, one eagle soared (翱翔) high into the sky while the other flew a few meters before returning to its starting branch (树枝).

Many knowledgeable people came, studied and tried, but no one succeeded. After a few weeks, the king nearly lost hope.
Then one day, something strange happened. The king saw both eagles soaring high in the sky. He couldn’t believe his eyes and called the caretaker over. The caretaker explained that a farmer had enabled the second eagle to fly. He brought the farmer to the king.
The king asked, “How did you do this while those knowledgeable men couldn’t ”
The farmer replied, “Yes, I am a simple farmer. I don’t have knowledge like them. I simply cut down the branch on which the eagle was used to sitting. With no branch, it had no choice but to fly.”

“Dad,” he said softly, lifting his head up, “we’re friends, right ” “Right,” Mufasa said with a nod.
“And we’ll always be together, right ”
To Simba’s surprise, his father didn’t answer right away. His mouth turned down, not in anger, but in thought. He sighed (叹气). Finally, he turned his head so he could look Simba in the eyes as he spoke. “Simba,” he said seriously. “Let me tell you something my father told me: ‘Look at the stars’.”
Turning over onto his back, Simba looked up. The stars filled the sky, making the land look even darker. But Simba knew hidden among the tall grasses and up in the high trees, animals that came out at night lay and hid.
“The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars.”
Simba looked up, trying to see the kings in the stars. But all he saw were twinkling lights and the moon. No kings. “Really ” he asked uncertainly.
“Yes,” Mufasa said. “So, whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be up there to guide you.” He paused before adding, “And so will I”.
“But I can’t see them, Dad,” Simba said softly. And so will I. Why had his dad said that Mufasa’s voice had sounded so sad that Simba felt suddenly sad himself.
His father gave him a gentle nudge with his nose. “Keep looking, Son,” he said. “Keep looking.”
Together, father and son lifted their heads and looked up to the sky. Simba wasn’t sure what his father was talking about—and he still only saw stars—but it didn’t matter. He trusted his dad. Costa Rica (哥斯达黎加) is not a traditional northern country. Here you do not have the turn of four different seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. It only has two seasons: dry season and wet season. So for tourists, when is the best time to go to Costa Rica
Most people like visiting Costa Rica in the dry season. The sun shines brightly almost every day from December to April and people won’t get wet. This makes them visit more places during the trip.
The best thing to do in Costa Rica in the dry season is to enjoy the beaches. The sunny weather allows people to enjoy the fun beach activities like swimming and surfing (冲浪). If you want quieter beaches perfect for swimming, you can visit the Gulf of Papagayo (帕帕加约海湾) and Peninsula Papagayo (帕帕加约半岛). If you want beaches perfect for surfing, go to beaches like Tamarindo (塔马林多), Playa Grande (格兰德海滩).
The wet season is also great for vacation. The hotel price is not high and there are much fewer visitors around. In the wet season, Costa Rica shows its green scenery (风景). The rain from May to November helps the rainforest grow. Waterfalls get stronger as more water flows in the rivers. And, yes, you can go out and see all of this.
The wet season doesn’t mean that you can’t leave your hotel. The rain usually comes in the afternoons and the mornings are often sunny and dry. So you are still able to enjoy the beautiful scenery in the rainy months of Costa Rica.

I’ve lived in a lorry (卡车) with my younger sister Sinita and my parents for over 200 days now! We’re travelling around Africa. The lorry’s a bit like a house on wheels (轮子), but it has less space. However, we have everything we need for our journey. It’s not very fast. That is OK — we’re not in a hurry.
Our schoolbooks are the same as the ones back home, but my mum gives us lessons, and then sends our work to teachers on the Internet. My favourite way of learning, however, is by going on special trips that my parents plan. We’ve seen so many wonderful places, people and animals.
In September, we went camping in the Kalahari Desert (卡拉哈里沙漠). We learned lots about the night sky. The Kalahari’s not like other deserts because it gets such a lot of rain — some parts of it look really green. We had a guide, and he told us about all the lovely animals that live there.
In November, we went on a whale-watching (鲸) tour in South Africa and saw six whales. We said hello to them. One even swam under our boat. That was really thrilling. I knew whales were big, but I couldn’t believe they were so large.
In December, we drove to Boulders Beach in South Africa. There are thousands of African penguins (企鹅) on the beach. These cute black and white birds can swim, but cannot fly. Many of the visitors to the beach enjoyed seeing their funny walk, but I was especially interested in how clever they were at keeping their babies safe.
