Winter sports were popular in the north of China hundreds of years ago.
This combination (联合) of ice skating and archery (箭术) became
popular during the Qing Dynasty. There were three arches (拱门) put on the
ice, with a silk ball hung by a rope in the middle of each arch. Players would
skate across the ice, led by a person with a flag. Once passing through an
arch, they would turn around and try to hit the ball with an arrow. The scene
was very powerful, as hundreds of players joined in together, moving in a
line like a dragon.
In the match, the players were divided into two teams. They
competed to catch a ball thrown into the air above ice. Unlike the ancient cuju, players were
allowed to pass the ball with their hands and feet. According to historical records, the Qing
government included the sport in military (军事的) training, as it could improve players’
endurance (耐力) and strength.
This sport was popular in the 18th century. On cold winter days,
organizers would water a slope (斜坡 ) about ten meters in length to
create an ice track for competitors. Wearing ice skates, competitors
would take turns to slide (滑行) down the slope to show as much of
their skating skills as they could. Those who made it down the slope
without falling would be the winner. The sport was dangerous and
carried a high risk of injury (损伤).
25. Group work is very important in ________.
A. archery on ice and ice football
B. ice football and downhill ice skating
C. archery on ice and downhill ice skating
D. archery on ice, ice football and downhill ice skating
26. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. Downhill ice skating first appeared in the Qing Dynasty.
B. Players competed to hit the silk ball before passing through the arch.
C. It’s not so hard to win the match of downhill ice skating without getting hurt.
D. With a strong mind and full strength, one team may be the winner of Ice football.
27. In which column (栏目) of a newspaper may we read the passage most probably
A. Modern ice sports B. Interesting ancient competitions
C. Beauty of Chinese culture D. Olympics in the Qing Dynasty

Chopsticks have been used in Asia for over 3,000 years. The earliest
chopsticks were discovered in Henan China about 1200 BCE. Over the next 2,000
years, they spread throughout East and Southeast Asia.
The three most well-known types are Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
Chinese chopsticks are longer with wide, rounded points at the end, mostly made
of plastic or bamboo. While Japanese chopsticks are shorter and more pointed.
Korean ones are flat rather than round and made of metal rather than wood. It’s
said that ancient Royalty (皇室) used silver chopsticks to see if their food was poisoned (有毒的). In
Southeast Asia, Vietnamese chopsticks are similar to Chinese ones.
Chopsticks are not just eating tools. A proper chopstick grip (握法) can greatly improve dining
experience. First, place the top part of two sticks between your thumb and index finger. Hold the upper
chopstick gently with your first three fingers while resting the lower one at your ring finger. Meanwhile,
put your thumb at the side of your index-finger nail. The upper stick is moved up and down with the
movements of the index finger and middle finger. This way, pieces of food can be easily grasped between
the tips of the chopsticks.
___30___ The first rule is to grab and not stab (刺入) food with the tip of your chopsticks. Second,
don’t set chopsticks vertically (垂直的) into the rice in your bowl. In some cultures, such positioning of
chopsticks is considered as a symbol associated with death. Third, watch where you point your chopsticks.
It’s rude to point them directly at others.
Following the guidelines above, you not only show respect for the cultural traditions about chopsticks,
but also enrich your overall dining experience.
28. We can learn about the ________ of chopsticks in Paragraph 2.
① ② ③ ④ ⑤

A. It’s not easy for you to get the use of chopsticks.
B. Understanding chopstick manners is also necessary.
C. Remember to choose suitable chopsticks for meals.
D. Chopsticks play an important role at Chinese table.

“Why did she spill the beans ” I wondered. I’ll always remember that day when I was so surprised by
all the strange looks everyone was giving me. Those thoughts will always stay with me. And I couldn’t
believe I would lose the friendship of the person I trusted the most.
Five years back, Sally was the new kid in class. I don’t know what it was, but something special about
her drew me to her. She was the friendliest person I had ever known. We started as classmates, but after a
few months, we were like best friends. So, I never expected her to hurt me in such a big way.
I don’t know what made me tell Sally about my personal life. She made the matter bigger than it was,
telling everyone at school. It was like someone had stabbed (刺伤) me in the back. After she gave away my
secrets, everyone at school started laughing at me, looking at me whenever I passed by! I had to change a
school. Sally called me many times, but I didn’t answer. My heart was broken.
I tried hard to heal (治愈, 康复) from the pain she left on my heart. After five years, my life went
back to the way it was, with new friends. But one day, I met Anna, my classmate from the third grade. She
told me that it was Mary who brought my secrets to light. Mary was our school’s big mouth who always
wanted to stick her nose into other people’s business.
I wished I could have asked Sally about this. I wished I could go back in time and fix my mistakes.
From that, I learned a life lesson that we should trust those we love because one little mistake could really
harm our lives.
31. Why did the writer think Sally hurt her
A. Because Sally didn’t want to be friends with the writer.
B. Because Sally might spread the writer’s personal secrets.
C. Because Sally laughed at the writer in front of others.
D. Because Sally asked the writer to change the school
32. The underlined phrase “big mouth” in Paragraph 4 refers to a person who ________.
A. likes talking a lot, and who cannot keep secrets
B. does something harmful to somebody who you trust
C. would like to tell people about her own secret information
D. tries to remember everything that makes her worried
33. From the last paragraph, we can infer the writer will be most likely to ________ later.
A. keep it to herself B. hate Sally all her life
C. tell Mary about her secrets D. call Sally and say sorry to her
D
①Imagine watching a movie in a foreign language or attending a
lecture where the speaker talks fast, the subtitles (字幕) appear directly
on your glasses. Isn’t that amazing
②Recently, an ordinary yet “magical” pair of glasses—the AR
Smart Glasses—has hit the market, which goes far beyond regular
translation tools by offering hands-free, screen-free, real-time
interactive translation.
③The AR Smart Glasses are lightweight and comfortable to wear. They look just like regular glasses,
but the “magic” hidden within them can’t be ignored (忽视).
④The coolest feature of the AR Smart Glasses is their special translator. When people talk with
someone, they can just point the glasses’ camera at the person they’re talking to, and the translation appears
on the screen. When people visit a new city wearing AR Smart Glasses, they can simply look at any text,
and a translation quickly appears in their view. If they get lost and need directions, the glasses can connect
with GPS apps and show them translated directions right in front of their eyes. Even for language learners,
it would be wonderful to practice a new language by seeing the words they hear being translated
simultaneously. Learning a language can become quicker, easier, and more certain.
⑤Since translation tools like the AR Smart Glasses help people understand words easily, some people
start to question whether it’s still necessary to learn English, or, any other foreign languages. In fact,
knowing a new language is more than just that. When you speak a language fluently, you understand the
way people talk, the jokes they make, and the special meanings behind their words. This helps you connect
with people better and make real friends. Also, being able to speak more than one language makes you
smarter. It helps you think in new ways and solve problems more easily. In a word, learning a language isn’
t just about understanding words. More importantly, it’s about real connections with native speakers and a
different point of view to see the world.
⑥So, even though AR Smart Glasses and other cool tools can help with translations, the real joy and
benefits of knowing a language come from speaking it fluently and understanding its culture.
34. What does the underlined word “simultaneously” mean
A. 快速地 B. 同步地 C. 准确地 D. 间断地
35. What can’t the AR Smart Glasses do according to the passage
A. Translate when people are talking.
B. Translate the text people see.
C. Provide translated directions when people get lost.
D. Teach people to speak a foreign language fluently.
36. What’s the structure of the passage
A ①/②/③④/⑤⑥ B. ①②/③④/⑤⑥
C. ①②③/④/⑤/⑥ D. ①/②③④/⑤/⑥
37. What is the main idea of the passage
A. To introduce the features and functions of AR Smart Glasses.
B. To discuss whether it’s necessary to learn foreign languages in the age of translation tools.
C. To encourage people to use AR Smart Glasses.
D. To show the importance of language-learning apps.

My shock and surprise disappeared when I understood that this island was my salvation (得救). I
began to shout for help to the people on the island. They did not understand me but they understood that I
was in difficulty and made signs for me to move towards them. They moved closer and when I was
underneath the island they sent a chair down to me on a chain and pulled me up.
The people on the island were friendly and accepted me but they were incredibly strange. They wore
the strangest clothes and they all had their own personal man servant who carried a large balloon on the end
of a stick. The servant’s job was to tap (轻拍) his master on his mouth or ear when he needed to speak or
listen to something. This was because these masters passed most of their time in intense thought (沉思).
They thought about the strangest subjects for hours and hours a day. And as a result they had no sense of
practical things in life, such as speaking or listening, or looking where they were going.
I later learnt that this island was called Laputa. Some people took me to speak to the king. When we
arrived at his palace, the king was lost in thought and didn’t notice me. I waited for more than an hour until,
finally, one of his servant tapped him on the mouth and he spoke.
I didn’t understand their language and could not answer the king. One of the servants tried to tap me
on the mouth with his balloon to make me speak. I protested (抗议,反对) very quickly.
“I know exactly when to speak and listen,” I told them. They understood the sense of what I said. But
they thought I was a complete idiot because I did not pass my time in thought, too. Then after dinner, a
servant came to teach me their language and tell me about life on Laputa.
