The ocelot(豹猫) is also known as the “Painted Leopard(豹)”. It is a kind of medium-sized
wild cat found in South America, Central America and Mexico. There are many interesting facts
about the ocelot.
Spots(斑点) and stripes(条纹) mark an ocelot’s fur. The fur pattern is different for each
ocelot. The shapes and colors of the fur are pretty to see, but ocelots don’t want to be seen. The fur
helps them hide in trees. That makes it easier for them to move toward their prey(猎物) very
quietly without being seen or heard. The fur also helps ocelots hide themselves from hungry
animals when it’s time for ocelots to have a short sleep. With the fur, they can rest in trees or other
thick leaves comfortably during the day.
Mostly found in forests, seldom do ocelots climb trees, though they are excellent climbers.
Ocelots feed mainly on the ground. Ocelots are small animals compared with jaguars(美洲豹).
Almost all of the prey that ocelots hunt is far smaller than themselves. These fast hunters eat small
monkeys, small deer, rabbits, birds, fish, and so on. Studies suggest that the ocelot follows and
finds prey by following its smells.
Ocelots are good swimmers and have good vision(视力), including night vision. During the
night, they like to hunt along open roads. Ocelots are very territorial(领地性的) and enjoy being
alone. An ocelot will fight hard, sometimes even to death, to guard and protect an area of land that
it believes to be its own. However, an ocelot will sometimes share its land with another ocelot.
53. What advantages of the ocelot’s fur are mentioned in Paragraph 2
①The ocelot’s fur helps them move toward their prey easily.

Artificial Intelligence(AI) is a really important thing that we often talk about these days. It
changes our lives a lot and has a big effect on many different areas.
AI makes machines able to do jobs that usually need human intelligence. For example, smart
voice helpers can understand what we say, and we can ask them to look for things, play music or
control the smart things at home. In addition, they can search through a lot of information and give
us answers.
In the hospital, AI is getting more and more useful. It helps doctors find out what’s wrong
with patients. Some AI systems can look at X-ray and MRI pictures better and faster than doctors
in some cases. They can see the early signs of sickness that doctors might miss. So patients can get
treated sooner.
In schools, AI is also making a change. There are smart teaching systems. They check how
well a student does in different classes, find out what the student is good at and not so good at, and
then make special learning plans and give the right exercises. This helps students get better at their
studies.
But AI also has some problems. One problem is that some people might lose their jobs. As
AI and machines that can work by themselves are getting better and better, some jobs that are
about doing the same thing over and over again might be done by machines. Another problem is
whether AI makes the right decision. When AI makes decisions that affect people or deals with
people’s personal information, we have to think about if it’s fair and how to keep the information
safe.
Even with these problems, AI is still moving forward. Scientists are trying to make it better
and also trying to solve these problems. We can expect that AI will keep changing our world and
bring both good things and hard things for us to deal with. 57. Which of the following is the use of AI in hospitals
A. It can cook meals for patients. B. It can help doctors figure out patients’ problems.
C. It cleans hospital rooms. D. It provides emotional support for patients.
58. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about
A. AI in education aims to make students study hard.
B. AI in education mainly focuses on reducing teachers’ workload.
C. AI in education customizes learning plans for students based on their performance.
D. AI in education is aimed at showing advanced technology in schools.
59. How does AI affect jobs according to the text
A. It creates a large number of new job types that require no professional skills.
B. It will completely replace human workers in all industries.
C. It may take over some jobs with repetitive tasks, probably leading to potential job losses and
changes.
D. It only has an influence on the jobs of unskilled workers and doesn’t have an effect on
professional ones.
60. What can be inferred about the future development of AI from the text
A. People’s worries and laws will stop AI from growing a lot soon.
B. AI will be better in some ways. But when used, it will definitely cause problems.
C. We are not sure if AI’s future will change because it depends on the market.
D. AI will continue to face challenges but will also bring important developments and chances.

Nowadays, social media platforms(平台) have become a common part of our lives. However,
there has also been a growing worry about its influence on young users. Maybe they’re not old
enough to start using social media.
The new law was passed in Australia on November 28th, 2024. It says Australians can’t use
social media unless they’re over 16 years old. This law will start by the end of 2025.
“We want them to have real experiences with real people because we know that social media
is causing social problems, ” said the Prime Minister of Australia. Nowadays, social media
platforms have become a common part of our lives.
In a study on 20, 000 Australian students in the 10th grade, many felt social media made
them less happy. In another study, around 60 percent of parents thought social media was bad
for children’s mental health, reported The Guardian.
However, experts doubted about the law. Lisa Given, a professor, wrote in The Conversation
that many European countries tried this before but failed. This is because social media is an
important way for teenagers to get information and share their thoughts. So it is not right to take
this away from them.
“On the technical(技术的) side, the law will also be difficult to carry out, ” said the
regulator(监管机构) for online safety in the country. “For example, many apps now ask users
their ages, but users can lie. What’s more, the law may push teenagers to hide their online
activities or even use unsafe apps. So, while the law is to protect kids, it might not work as
planned. ”

One Possible version
Dear Jack,
I know from your e-mail that you are learning Chinese this school term and ask me for some
advice. Here are my suggestions.
First, you should listen to your teacher carefully in class and practice as often as possible
after class because learning a language well requires a lot of practice. Second, I’d like to
recommend you to read some Chinese storybooks after class, which can help you enlarge your
vocabulary and understand the different meanings of the words. Third, I think it is a good idea
to communicate with Chinese native speakers. Last but not least, watching Chinese movies and
listening to Chinese songs are good ways to learn Chinese.
I hope my advice will be helpful.
Yours,
Li Hua
