Three cute brown bear cubs who got lost after getting separated from their mother gripped the hearts of netizens.
The fuzzy cubs were spotted by Gelek Gyatso, an ecological protection officer, when he was patrolling a riverbed at an altitude of nearly 4,500 meters in Qumarleb county in Qinghai province’s Yushu.
The little cubs eagerly ran toward the ranger on the snow-covered riverbed, then stopped short at a safe distance to stare at him curiously. After realizing that the man was not their mother, the bear cubs turned around and ran along the river calling for mom.
This was Gelek Gyatso’s first encounter with bear cubs separated from their mother. With his knowledge of wild animals, he drove the cubs towards an area near their cave in the hope of a safe reunion. Thankfully, later that day, other patrol officers found that the mother bear had reunited with her cubs and that the family was happy and healthy.
This year marks Gelek Gyatso’s tenth year as an ecological protection officer. He patrols the area every day, diligently records the animals he sees, carefully checks on the vegetation, and helps clean up litter.
Over the decade, Gelek Gyatso has witnessed great changes in the ecological environment of his hometown. There has been an increase in the number of wild animals, and everyone is participating in the protection of these species, making coexistence between humans and animals more harmonious.

The idea of low material desire, low consumption and refusing to work, marry and have children, concluded as a “lying down” lifestyle, recently struck a chord with many young Chinese who are eager to take pause to breathe in this fast-paced and highly-competitive society.
Many millennials (千禧一代) and generation Zs complained to the Global Times that burdens, including work stress, family disputes and financial strains, have pushed them “against the wall”. They said they hate the “involution(内卷),” joking that they would rather give up some of what they have than get trapped in an endless competition against peers.
“Instead of always following the ‘virtues’ of struggle, endure and sacrifice to bear the stresses, they prefer a temporary lying down as catharsis (宣泄) and adjustment,” said a scholar. “It is no wonder that some young people, under the growing pressures from child-raising to paying the mortgage (按揭) today, would try to live in a simple way and leave the worries behind.”
Interestingly, the majority of millennials and Gen Zs reached by the Global Times, who claim to be big fans of the lying down philosophy, acknowledged that they only accept a temporary lying down as a short rest. It is true that with the great improvement of living conditions, some Chinese youth have partially lost the spirit of hardship and are not willing to bear too much hard work. But in fact, lying down is not entirely comfortable. Young people who lie down always feel guilty about their constant loss of morale (士气) far beyond their reach.
“Young people on campus have both aspirations and confusion about their future, but most of us have rejected setting ourselves up in chains to waste opportunities and challenges,” a postgraduate student told the Global Times. “It’s no use running away. I have to ‘stand up’ and face the reality sooner or later.”

When Ghanaian photojournalist Paul Ninson initially pursued a career in photography, he found the challenge discouraging. Photography isn’t exactly valued as a career in Ghana, Ninson says, “If you tell your parents you’re going to be a photographer, it was like, ‘Yuck, what Go be a lawyer.’”
But Ninson felt photography was his calling. Deeply influenced by the family history of storytelling passed down through his grandparents and later attracted by a friend’s images, he developed a love for photography. He sold his mobile phone, bought a camera and began studying photography.
Though Ninson began his journey with commercial photography, he soon shifted his focus to stories closer to his heart-those of African history and culture that he would capture as a photojournalist.
Ninson still sought formal education in photojournalism. Unable to find a suitable program in Africa, he left Ghana in 2019 to study in New York City. There, he read the center’s hundreds of photobooks. In Ghana, he only had access to five or six of such books.
As he ventured deeper into the city, he discovered more visual histories of Africa than he had experienced at home, such as documentation of Ghana’s first president at the New York Public Library. The libraries Ninson visited were unwilling to give him their archives(档案)to return to Africa, which led to his idea of creating a leading photobook library in Africa that held such stories. This idea has been realized with the creation of Dikan Center in Accra, Ghana’s capital.
In Ghanaian artist Daniella Afful’s eyes, Dikan Center is the beginning of for the growth of Ghana’s creative community, “Dikan Center has magnified(放大)art and photography. I always believe that there are certain gifts sticking in our minds for a variety of reasons.
The gift given to me that I treasured most was a doll named Patsy. I met her in a gift shop when I was nine. Last weekend, I had the opportunity to do some housework at home. The tasks included cleaning the rooms, doing laundry, and washing the plate. It was a challenging but fulfilling experience.
