A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to join a Hollywood film as an extra (群众演员) in Paris. I had little idea of exactly what to expect before setting off. But I certainly wasn’t thinking that one of the biggest advantages would be spending hours with other people without access to our phones.
On set, phones were locked away after makeup. Without screens, we faced something unusual: real conversations. During long waits between scenes, people actually talked. An art student sketched tattoo ideas for me; a Parisian actor shared her love for Vietnamese food; a Haitian man told stories of his childhood. We played games, debated silly theories, and laughed freely. It felt like stepping into a world before smartphones ruled our attention.
This experience made me realize how technology has changed us. Once technology did bring people together, but gradually they grabbed and then destroyed our attention spans and left so many of us with smartphone addiction; social media grabbed and destroyed our ability to share an informational environment. And now AI threatens to grab and atrophy (使萎缩) our mental muscles entirely.
Yet, I see hope. I think we are at the beginning stages of a quite significant backlash to that. Teens are choosing simple flip phones; people attend digital detox events; those stupid QR-code menus are swiftly disappearing; three-and-a-half-hour long podcasts get millions of listens. We’re slowly fighting back against endless distractions.
Years ago, I visited an art exhibit in Paris where the "art" was simply conversations with strangers. Like that exhibit, life requires time and presence. On the film set, pretending in a fictional world ironically brought us closer to what’s real — human connection.
Though my acting role was small, those phone-free hours reminded me: true joy lies not in screens, but in the messy, unpredictable moments we share
24.What happened when the author couldn’t use phones on the movie set
A. They felt bored and impatient.
B. They interacted deeply with strangers.
C. They focused on memorizing scripts.
D. They discovered new film making techniques.
25.What is the author’s attitude toward modern technology
A. Fully supportive of its convenience.
B. Indifferent to its development.
C. Concerned about its social impact.
D. Confident in its problem-solving power.
26.Which of the following might be an example of "digital detox" in para. 3
A. deleting harmful online content B. taking a break from electronic devices
C. improving smartphone battery life D. making digital device more effective
27.Which title best summarizes the article
A. Hollywood Secrets: Behind the Scenes of Filming
B. How AI Threatens Human Creativity
C. The Rise of Old-day Technology Among Teenagers
D. Regaining Real Life in a Screen-Dominated World
C
In modern cities where concrete landscapes dominate, a quiet revolution is taking place to protect our essential pollinators Bee highways, also known as pollinator pathways, are emerging as creative corridors that enable bees to move through urban environments safely while supporting biodiversity.
These "highways" are made up of connected green areas filled with local plants, which provide food and shelter for bees. Unlike regular roads, they’re designed as continuous paths of flowers and plants that stretch across cities, linking parks, gardens, balconies, and roadside plantings. The concept first started in Oslo, Norway in 2015 and has since spread globally.
The need is urgent: 35%of global food production depends on pollinators, yet their populations have declined by 30% since 2000 due to habitat loss and pesticides use. Urban areas force bees to fly long distances between isolated green zones while facing threats from traffic and pollution.
Creating bee-friendly paths is easier than you think! Cities can grow special flower gardens that bloom all year round, giving bees constant food. Citizens can help too — by planting wildflowers in their yards instead of grass, and making small shelters for bees to rest. Some European towns even turn bus stop roofs into mini gardens.
These networks deliver multiple benefits. They increase urban biodiversity by up to 60% within three years while beautifying cities naturally. The highways help maintain healthy bee populations crucial for food security, with Oslo’s project increasing local bee diversity by 47%. Importantly, they raise public awareness about environmental responsibility through community participation.
However, challenges remain. Maintaining continuous corridors requires coordinated efforts between governments and residents. Experts suggest using native plants rather than decorative species, so they fit better with the environment. Some critics argue these projects might take attention away from bigger problems like industrial pesticide use.
Despite limitations, over 35 cities have adopted the concept. As climate changes, such solutions show how cities can coexist with wildlife — transforming urban jungles safeguards both bees and our future food systems.
28.What is the function of bee highways
A. To reduce traffic pollution effects.
B. To provide safe routes and food for bees.
C. To replace roads with eco-friendly pathways.
D. To offer green spaces for urban residents
29.What helps create bee-friendly paths according to Paragraph 4
A. Planting decorative flowers in parks.
B. Banning pesticides on farms.
C. Growing wildflowers instead of grass.
D. Building big shelters at bus stops.
30.What is the author’s view of bee highways
A. Too costly to maintain. B. Promising but partial solution.
C. Focusing on city appearance. D. Distracting from climate issues.

A. City Challenges: Urban-Wildlife Balance
B. Bee Crisis: Address Global Food Shortages
C. Green Corridors: Urban Solutions to Save Pollinators
D. Flower Highways: Bus Stops Saving Endangered Insects

Franz Kafka died 100 years ago in literary obscurity He had instructed his friend Max Brod to burn his unpublished works. Fortunately for generations of readers, Brod did not. He believed Kafka to be among the greatest writers of his time and instead edited and published his late friend’s writing. In other words, Brod decided that Kafka’s stories belonged not to the late author, but to the literate public.
Brod’s problem echoes today. People live online and generate far more data than they did just a decade ago. Everyone leaves digital traces behind when they die in the form of social-media profiles and posts, or incidentally, with web searches, phone-location data, banking records and so on.
"The dead remain there for us in a way that has not been possible in pre-digital society," says Carl hman, a Swedish political scientist. For example, in 2022 a US company announced that it was developing a feature so its virtual assistant could be programmed to speak in the voice of a dead relative. It even made a video in which a boy asks the virtual assistant to read him The Wizard of Oz in his late grandmother’s voice. More companies have used data to make chatbots of the deceased. No doubt more lifelike versions will come soon.
Well, here are the questions. To whom do the dead’s data belong Are data something people create, or something like a digital analogue (相似物) of a physical body If data are digital analogues, what obligations do they impose on (强加于) the living After all, most cultures are opposed to just leaving a dead body in the open to rot, even though it is no longer being used. Do data demand the same respect
These are not merely questions for individuals. They are questions for society at large. After all, historians often study the diaries of the dead. Their writers may have preferred to keep the contents private, but the light such documents can collectively shine on humanity’s past outweighs the late owner’s wishes. Mr hman notes that data are part of "the biggest archive (档案) of human behaviour in the history of our species", and that they are therefore an irreplaceable, valuable record for future generations. As this record is collective, concern for it should be, too. He urges users to pressure social-media firms "in terms of how they deal with digital remains".
32.What did Brod think of Kafka’s unpublished works
A. They reflected advanced ideas.
B. They were too common to be published.
C. They deserved to be read by more people.
D. They provided a good way to make money.
33.What does the example in paragraph 3 show
A. Chatbots are highly literate.
B. Chatbots have a wealth of emotions.
C. Technology facilitates interpersonal communication.
D. Technology enables a continued relationship with the dead.
34.What do the questions in paragraph 4 focus on
A. Who can use the dead’s data.
B. Where the dead’s data should be stored.
C. How humans should view the dead’s data.
D. How the dead’s data affect social development.
35.Why are the data of the dead collective according to the text
A. Regulations make these data publicly available.
B. These data are necessary for human history.
C. These data don’t include the privacy of the dead.
D. Individuals cannot control their data after death.

I grew up in a small town. The primary school was a ten-minute walk from my house. When the noon bell rang, I would race breathlessly home. My mother would be standing at the top of the stairs, smiling down at me.
One lunch-time when I was in the third grade will stay with me always. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had helped me remember my lines so hard. But no matter how easily I acted at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator’s (旁白的) part to the play, and asked me to change roles. Her words, kindly expressed, still hurt, especially when I saw my part go to another girl.
I didn’t tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my pain. Instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine (藤蔓) was turning green. Under the huge trees, we could see yellow dandelions (蒲公英) in the grass in bunch, as if a painter had touched our landscape with gold. I watched my mother casually bend down by one dandelion. "I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds, " she said, "pulling it up by its roots. From now on, we’ll have only roses in this garden. "
"But I like dandelions, "I protested, "All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions. "
My mother looked at me seriously. "Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn’t it "She asked thoughtfully. I nodded, pleased that I had won her over. "And that is true of people too, "she added, "Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that. "Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled.

"My primary challenge was to have a good time in places that everyone had said I wouldn’t," said the author.(跟随他前往"最荒凉的城镇,最糟糕的酒店和最可怕的酒吧"。
Adventure. New experiences. Interesting people. Read about other people’s exciting travels around the world with these three books.(冒险。
I think we are at the beginning stages of a quite significant backlash to that. Teens are choosing simple flip phones; people attend digital detox events; those stupid QR-code menus are swiftly disappearing; three-and-a-half-hour long podcasts get millions of listens. B"taking a break from electronic devices",意为"从电子设备中解脱出来休息一下"符合digital detox的含义。故选B。
These ‘highways’ are made up of connected green areas filled with local plants, which provide food and shelter for bees. Unlike regular roads, they’re designed as continuous paths of flowers and plants that stretch across cities, linking parks, gardens, balconies, and roadside plantings.
Creating bee-friendly paths is easier than you think!(创建蜜蜂友好的路径比你想象的要容易!)"和"Citizens can help too — by planting wildflowers in their yards instead of grass, and making small shelters for bees to rest.
In modern cities where concrete landscapes dominate, a quiet revolution is taking place to protect our essential pollinators Bee highways, also known as pollinator pathways, are emerging as creative corridors that enable bees to move through urban environments safely while supporting biodiversity.
He believed Kafka to be among the greatest writers of his time and instead edited and published his late friend’s writing. In other words, Brod decided that Kafka’s stories belonged not to the late author, but to the literate public.(他相信Kafka是他那个时代最伟大的作家之一,于是他编辑并出版了这位已故朋友的作品。
The dead remain there for us in a way that has not been possible in pre-digital society," says Carl hman, a Swedish political scientist.
Most of us have been put on the spot in a number of different situations, whether at work or among a group of friends.(无论是在工作中还是在一群朋友中,我们大多数人都曾在许多不同的情况下陷入困境)"以及后文"However, you just aren’t ready to give, whether it's because you don't know or you're not willing to share.
We’ve all been guilty of putting others on the spot ourselves, usually by accident. Perhaps we ask a sensitive question of a friend in a group setting, or try to push a quiet coworker to share their answers in a meeting.(我们都曾为自己让别人陷入困境而感到内疚,通常是出于偶然。
Putting someone on the spot though, whether intentional or not, has the effect of destroying trust in a relationship. The key to maintaining the trust in a relationship is developing your emotional intelligence.(然而,无论是有意还是无意,把某人置于困境都会破坏一段关系中的住。 As Krauss wrote in a recent Psychology Today article, "A sign that you’re not as sensitive as you could be when you pressure people is that others try to stay away from you to the extent that they can."(克劳斯最近在《今日心理学》的一篇文章中写道:"当你给别人施加压力时,别人会尽量远离你,这表明你并没有像你想象得那么敏感。")"
Are people born with the ability to develop a high level of emotional intelligence, or is that something they are taught Although the answer is probably a little bit of both, strengthening your emotional intelligence is definitely something we can all do.(人们是天生就有能力发展高水平的情商,还是后天习得的 虽然答案可能两者都有一点,但提高情商绝对是我们都能做的事情)"可知,本段主要说明了关于情商是否是天生的存在争议,故G选项"关于情商是否天生就有争议"符合语境,故选G。
40.根据后文"Listening, empathizing (共情), and reflecting are strategies that many of us have developed with time to strengthen our emotional intelligence, whether with the help of a professional or through our own trial-and-error.(倾听、移情和反思是我们许多人随着时间的推移而发展起来的增强情商的策略,无论是在专业人士的帮助下,还是通过我们自己的试错)"可知,后文提到情商可以随着时间推移而发展,即情商随着年龄增长而变得越高故F选项"随着年龄的增长,我们中的许多人的情商都越来越高"符合语境,故选F。

第二节
答案:
"But you will be a beautiful narrator, " she said. She encouraged and comforted me as always as she did. My beloved mother, wearing a shining smile, added, "The narrator’s part is important, too. " Thanks to her encouragement, I began to accept the narrator part was of vital significance. How time flew! Then came the performance day. At first I was still nervous, but it was at that very moment that I found a dandelion in my pocket. I knew my mom passed the flower to me, which meant to be in company with me.
After the play, I took home the dandelion. Upon seeing me and the dandelion, my mother’s eyes lit up with a mixture of delight and fulfillment. "I’ve made it! Thank you for your encouragement." I exclaimed. We hugged each other excitedly. Then she tenderly took the dandelion from me, as if she were holding a precious treasure. At that moment, I felt loved and appreciated for who I was. We all have our own unique beauty and worth just like the sorry-looking dandelion. It was my mother’s comfort and encouragement that shaped my perspective.
