Have you ever made a quick decision you later regretted Yeah, me too. Before that, I
thought “Wow, I’m a human supercomputer!”, but shortly after the decision, I realized it might
have been one of my worst ideas ever. That’s the beauty and the problem of how our minds work,
as clearly explained by Daniel Kahneman in his bestselling book Thinking, Fast and Slow,
published in 2011. It’s an interesting exploration (探索) into the way we make decisions.
Daniel Kahneman, a well-known psychologist (心理学家) and Nobel Prize winner, uses
simple examples to show two ways our brains think. When you see a snake, you might jump back
without thinking. This is System l—a fast, automatic (自动的) way of thinking. It works quickly
and without much effort. But when you work out a math problem or plan a trip, you need to turn
to System 2, a slow, careful way of thinking.
This book helps us understand why we sometimes make mistakes. For example, if a shop
says a shirt is “50% off from 100,” we think 50 is a good price, but maybe the real price was lower.
This is the “anchoring effect” that the first information we hear influence our choice. So
Kahneman suggests slowing down and using System 2 to avoid mistakes when making important
decisions.
Thinking, Fast and Slow is not just for scientists. It is useful for everyone. Although some
ideas are challenging, the clear examples explain big ideas. By learning about these thinking
habits, you can make wiser choices. As Kahneman says, “Understanding our mistakes is the first
step to avoiding them.”
24.Which of the following is the example of System 1
A.Solving geography problems.
B.Comparing to get budget-friendly phones.
C.Feeling scared when seeing a spider.
25.What does the “anchoring effect” mean in Paragraph 3
A.People are influenced by the first information they hear.
B.People don’t take the first information seriously.
C.People always make correct decisions without thinking.
26.What do you know about the book Thinking, Fast and Slow
A.It discusses three ways human thinks.
B.It helps people to make wiser decisions.
C.It uses difficult examples to explain ideas.
27.What’s the author’s attitude towards the book Thinking, Fast and Slow
A.Supportive. B.Doubtful. C.Unclear.

In recent months, many Chinese companies have started to say goodbye to long work hours.
Midea Group tells workers to finish work by 6:20 p.m., with HR reminding them to go home. DJI,
a famous drone (无人机) company, closes its Shenzhen office lights at 9 p.m. daily. Managers and
HR office workers check floors to make sure everyone clocks out on time. Similarly, Haier has
introduced full weekends, closing its offices and dinning halls on Saturdays.
Why is this happening First, long hours harm both health and work quality. Studies show
that after 8 hours of work, mistakes increase by 30%—40%, and workers become less creative.
Second, international rules are pushing change. The European Union’s 2024 law states working
over 48 hours weekly as “forced work”. Since Midea makes 50% of its money in Europe, breaking
these rules could lose its worldwide markets. Third, young employees (雇员), especially those
born after 2000, now prefer flexible working time to higher pay. “I’d rather go hiking or learn
painting than stay late at the office,” said Li Xiao, a 22-year-old employee at Haier.
However, challenges remain. Some workers worry about “hidden overtime”, where tasks
must be finished at home after leaving the office. Others fear losing income (收入), as overtime
pay once made up 22% of some workers’ pay.
While not perfect, this marks a move away from “996 culture” (working 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.,
six days a week). As one DJI employee shared online, “It’s my first time being ‘left’ the office—
but it feels like a good start.”
28.What is DJI’s new rule about overtime
A.Employees can work until midnight.
B.Employees are asked to leave the office earlier than before.
C.HR office workers no longer need to check employees’ leaving time.
29.What is a key reason for companies to follow European Union rules
A.To increase office space.
B.To reduce employees’ pay.
C.To avoid losing worldwide market shares.
30.What does the underlined word “flexible” in the second paragraph mean in Chinese
A.灵活的 B.额外的 C.忙碌的
31.What can be known from the “996 culture” mentioned in the last paragraph
A.It is challenged by a lot of Chinese companies.
B.It was a very popular work culture in the past.
C.It was beneficial to employees’ health and work quality.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题或翻译画线部分。
I’m Mike. Last summer, my grandmother introduced me to Baduanjin, a traditional Chinese
exercise. At first, I was doubtful about how slow, simple movements could make a difference.
However, I decided to give it a try, and it became one of the most valuable experiences of my life.
Every morning, my grandmother and I visited a nearby park, where she guided me through
the eight movements of Baduanjin. The first exercise, “Holding the Sky with Both Hands”, felt
strange at first. I stretched (伸展) my arms up while keeping my feet firmly (稳固的) on the
ground. Though it looked easy, I quickly felt my muscles (肌肉) working.
As the days passed, I began to enjoy practicing Baduanjin. The movements were slow and
graceful (优雅的),like a dance. My favorite was “Drawing the Bow to Shoot the Eagle”, where I
imagined holding a bow and arrow (弓箭), making me feel strong and focused.
What surprised me most was how calm and relaxed I felt after every practice. Deep
breathing and easy stretches cleared my mind like magic. Even when preparing for midterm
exams, my stress seemed lighter, and I felt I had more energy. My grandmother smiled and told
me, “Baduanjin isn’t just good for your body, it also helps your heart feel peaceful.”
By summer’s end, I had learned all eight exercises and began practicing at home. Now,
whenever I’m tired or stressed, I take a few minutes to do Baduanjin. Baduanjin has taught me the
importance of balance in both exercise and life—a gift I will always treasure.
56.Where did Mike practice Baduanjin together with his grandmother
57.What is Mike’s favorite movement

How to be a happy student
As a student, I believe that the key to happiness lies in finding balance and positivity. Here
are three ways that I have found to be particularly helpful in my journey towards a happy student
life.
Firstly, I believe in the myself. By believing in myself, I have learned to approach
challenges with confidence and to persevere through difficulties. Secondly, having a positive
attitude is crucial. It is easy to get caught up in the stresses of school. I try to see the humor in
situations, stay grateful for the blessings in my life, and focus on solutions rather than problems.
