“Thank you for your email. I’ve left to follow my dream of knitting (编织) sweaters for penguins (企鹅)
and don’t work for the school anymore. I’ll be out of the office… until my penguin friends are happy.” This is part
of an email that a Chinese student studying in the UK got from her teacher. And this email has become really
popular online recently.
You might think this email is quite strange, but knitting sweaters for penguins is actually a kind thing to do.
The project started because of a bad oil spill (石油泄漏) near Australia in the late 1990s. During that time, the
number of baby penguins went down a lot and their health got worse too. When little penguins got covered in oil,
they would try to clean themselves with their beaks (喙). But if they ate the oil, it could be very dangerous and
even kill them.
To deal with this problem, the Penguin Foundation (企鹅基金会) asked people who can knit to make
sweaters for the penguins. These sweaters could keep the penguins warm while they were being cleaned and stop
them from eating the oil.
This method has worked well. In 2001, another oil spill happened near Phillip Island. Thanks to the
sweaters, 96 percent of the penguins in that area were saved successfully.
However, some protection groups are worried that these sweaters might make the penguins feel more
stressed in their bodies. In reply to these worries, the foundation said that the sweaters are just a short-term way to
help. They won’t be used once the penguins get better.
50.How does the writer introduce the topic of the passage
A.By showing a message. B.By introducing a teacher.
C.By presenting part of an email.
51.Why did the project of knitting sweaters for penguins start
A.To make penguins look cute. B.To help penguins troubled by oil spills.
C.To protect penguins from climate change.
52.When did another oil spill happen near Phillip Island
A.In 1990. B.In 1998. C.In 2001.
53.What is the attitude of some protection groups towards the sweater
A.Doubtful. B.Supportive. C.Unclear.
C
In the next few years, hundreds of millions of Chinese people will enter old age while the birth rate (率) is
dropping fast. Since 2016, the newly-born population had decreased for seven years. This is a big warning for
China. As fewer babies are born, there will be fewer young people to work and support society.
Experts say that if nothing is done, it will seriously affect the economy (经济), healthcare (医疗), and
social welfare (福 利 ). For the economy, there might not be enough workers to keep factories running and
businesses growing. In healthcare, more elderly people mean more needs for medical services, which could cause
stress to hospitals. And for social welfare, there will be more people needing pensions (养老金) and other benefits,
but it will be hard to keep the current level of welfare, because fewer young workers will contribute to it.
China’s retirement (退 休 ) age hadn’t been raised for many years, Now, top officials have decided to
gradually raise it. For men workers, it will increase from 60 to 63. For women workers, it will rise from 50 or 55
to 55 and 58, depending on the job.
This change meets the needs of the modern workforce. People live longer and healthier, and many jobs
need less physical strength. Also, workers and bosses can reach an agreement to put off retirement even later.
These new rules started on January 1, 2025. They’re important for China’s future as they help deal with the
aging population problem and keep the country developing better.
54.Why is the retirement age raised
A.Because people want more pensions.
B.Because the current retirement age is too low.
C.Because the aging population causes problems in many ways.
55.How many years has the retirement age for men workers been raised according to the new policy
A.2 years. B.3 years. C.4 years.
56.The underlined word “current” in the second paragraph means “______” in Chinese.
A.简单的 B.现在的 C.下降的
57.What is the main idea of the passage
A.China’s population is dropping quickly.
B.The pension system in China needs to be improved.
C.China is raising the retirement age to deal with the aging population.

阅读下面短文,从短文后框内选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。
Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere around us. It’s not just in science-fiction stories anymore. 58
AI is making our lives easier and more efficient in many ways.
Take healthcare as an example. 59 AI can look at X-rays and MRIs very carefully. It helps doctors
find diseases earlier. When doctors find diseases early, it’s easier to treat patients.
Transportation is another area where AI is changing things. Self-driving cars, which use AI, are being
tested in many places. 60 These cars can “see” their surroundings and decide how to drive. They might
help cut down on car accidents caused by human mistakes. But there are still problems. For example, if there’s an
accident, it’s not clear who should be responsible.
However, AI also brings some worries. 61 Since AI machines can work on their own more and
more, people are asking how much control we should have over them. Also, people are worried that AI might take
away some jobs because machines can do some jobs instead of humans.
62 AI can help us find better ways to make and use energy. This helps save our environment. AI
can also watch the environment and predict natural disasters better.
A.These cars can work out what’s around them and drive without people telling them what to do.
B.AI is used in different ways to help doctors find and treat diseases.
C.AI is helping us take care of our planet, too.
D.People are talking a lot about the right and wrong ways to use AI.
E.Now, AI is used in many parts of our daily lives.
F.AI is mainly for large-scale industry, not related to daily life.

September is a big month for students in China since the new term begins from now on. In ancient China,
the school entrance ceremony was one of the most important ceremonies.
Children began school between the ages of 4~7 in ancient China. Since there was no certain time to begin
a new term at that time, the most important thing for parents was to choose a lucky day for their children to enter
school. Next, parents would prepare some school things for their children, including desks, chairs and four
treasures of the study.
In ancient times, teachers were usually very knowledgeable local persons. Parents would prepare many
gifts, and then write a letter of invitation to ask a knowledgeable man to be their children's teacher.
On the day their children entered school, parents would take them to take part in the First Writing
Ceremony. Before that, children would kowtow (叩头) to the statue of Confucius (孔子像) 9 times and then to
their teacher 3 times to show their deep respect (尊敬). During the ceremony, the teacher would put a red point on
the students' forehead (前额) as it meant opening the wisdom eye. Children would also ring a certain bell to start a
new term. After that, they could finally sit down in their seats and begin to study. The First Writing Ceremony
was a very important ceremony for every student.
Every day, students would arrive at school earlier than their teacher, and kowtow to the statue of Confucius,
and then go back to the seats. Usually the teacher would give every student a new name, which was used for the
future imperial examination (科举考试).
Today, some schools are starting to hold an entrance ceremony like they did in ancient times. Students put
on traditional costumes and bow to the statue of Confucius and their teachers. This means that from this moment,
they take a step in the lifelong journey of learning.

Water is very important for us. We should try our best to save water in many ways. Here are some tips for
you.
First, turn off the tap. Just turn off the tap while you brush your teeth in the morning and before bedtime.
The same is true when you wash dishes.
Second, save water when taking a shower. To save even more water, keep your shower under five minutes
long. Put a clock in the bathroom when you want to take a shower next time.
Third, water your garden at a good time. The best time to water your garden is in the early morning or late
evening when it’s cool outside. Watering when it’s hot and sunny is wasteful because most of the water disappears
before the plants have time to drink it.

Usually the teacher would give every student a new name, which was used for the
future imperial examination (科举考试).

on traditional costumes and bow to the statue of Confucius and their teachers. This means that from this moment,
they take a step in the lifelong journey of learning.

【答案】例文
The Importance of Controlling a Healthy Weight
With the start of the national “Weight Management Year” plan, “weight management” has become a hot
topic on social media. Maintaining a healthy weight is of great significance. It not only helps us look good but
also keeps our body in a healthy state, reducing the risk of various diseases.
Personally, I once struggled with my weight. I felt tired easily and lacked confidence. Then I started to eat a
balanced diet and exercise regularly. Gradually, I lost some weight and became more energetic.
Our school has also taken action. It offers special P.E. classes focusing on weight management and
provides healthy meal options in the cafeteria.
To better manage weight, I suggest schools organize more outdoor activities. Also, we students should raise
awareness and take the initiative to control our weight for a better life.
