January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeek-R1. This
smart program can solve maths problems, write code (代 码 ), and answer questions like top models such as
OpenAI’s GPT-40, but it costs much less to build. The team spent only $5.58 million (1/70 of OpenAI’s cost) and
used 2,048 computer chips for two months. This shows that good ideas can beat big money.
DeepSeek-R1 learns by trying many times and getting better, like how students practise maths. Other AIs
need lots of prepared examples, but R1 improves by itself. A simple version (版 本 ) of R1 can even run on
low-cost computers, helping schools and small companies.
DeepSeek-R1 is free to use and change. On its first day online, over 19,000 programmers all over the world
started projects to study it. A German scientist said experiments with it cost$10 instead of $ 300 with other AIs.
This kind of free AI could change the world.
U. S. tech companies are worried. Experts say China is catching up fast. A report in Nature magazine called
R1 a “big step forward”, proving that smart ideas beat expensive tools.
As a DeepSeek engineer said, “We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use.” With
R1, China shows the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money.
29.What does the writer think is the most important for success
A.Having enough money. B.Creativity and hard work.
C.Using the latest computer chips. D.Copying other countries’ ideas.
30.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to (指的是)

In Henan’s Luoning county, Huashuwa village has made an amazing change. Thanks to ceramic (陶瓷)
artist Guo Aihe, it’s changed from a poor mountain village into a popular tourist place.

vats (陶缸) to create art works and decorated the village with sancai paintings, mixing art with nature.
Now, the village attracts over 100,000 visitors yearly, benefiting nearby areas. Guo also focuses on village
children’s aesthetic (美学的) education. He donates art tools, gives away money, and organizes art activities.
Artists create works, which are sold to provide money for art education. As of now, 50 artists have created 813
works in the activities, donating over 2 million yuan ($275,528) through sales. Thanks to Guo, the village and its

Students in Denmark take national tests on a computer at different times. With 4 years’ test results,
researchers found something interesting. Students who took the test in the morning scored higher than those who
took it in the afternoon.
So what happens We might have noticed that in the afternoon we become less productive and the work we
do is of lower quality. A lot of people around the world experience the same thing every day. That’s called the
afternoon slump (低迷).
Why does this happen Our bodies are controlled by our circadian rhythm (昼夜规律) which is like a clock.
It tells our bodies when to go to sleep and wake up. Our energy levels change with the circadian rhythm.
We are smarter and more energetic during some parts of the day, while during others, we are less energetic.
For example, during the night we experience a large drop in energy, especially between 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. However,
our energy slowly rises after waking up until it reaches the highest in the late morning. But it is then followed by
an afternoon low, which we call the afternoon slump. The low appears about seven hours after waking up, which
is usually between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for most people. This is the time when people make more mistakes during the
daytime. When the afternoon slump is over, it rises again. But as our body gets ready for sleep, it slowly drops.
The afternoon slump is natural, but there are some ways to get the energy back. Stretching (拉伸) for even
20 seconds, taking a break for about 15 minutes, eating a bar of black chocolate and so on can have a huge
influence on your energy levels. Hopefully, you have a better idea about the afternoon slump and what we can do
about it.
36.How does the writer support his idea in the third paragraph
A.By comparing the fact. B.By explaining the reason.
C.By telling a story. D.By listing some numbers.
37.What can we know about the “afternoon slump”
A.It only happens to students in Denmark. B.It makes students score higher in tests.
C.It is caused by natural body rhythms. D.It’s a sign of serious health problems.
38.Which picture shows the change of the energy level with the time
A.
B.
C.
D.
39.What can we infer according to the text
A.The afternoon slump can be completely avoided.
B.Our energy levels are the highest in the early morning.
C.The afternoon slump is a problem for only students.
D.Simple actions like eating snacks helps get energy back.
40.Where is the text probably taken from
A.A science magazine. B.A story book.
C.A science fiction. D.A travel guide.
第二节 阅读表达(共 5 题;每题 2 分,满分 10 分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
World Kindness Day is celebrated every year on November 13th. It was started in 1998 by the World
Kindness Movement, a group that wants to make the world a better place through small acts of kindness. This
special day reminds people that everyone can do something kind, no matter how small.
The main purpose of World Kindness Day is to spread love and care. In today’s busy world, people
sometimes forget to be kind to others. This day encourages us to slow down, help those in need, and create
happier communities. It teaches us that kindness can connect people from different countries and cultures.
So far, 28 countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, Nigeria, and the UAE (阿联酋)
have organized activities to celebrate World Kindness Day. On this day, organizations and individuals (个体) are
encouraged to reach out to others and perform acts of kindness. For example, they might help an elderly neighbor
carry heavy things, give away clothes to the poor, or write thank-you notes to teachers. Some schools organize
activities like planting trees or cleaning parks. Even smiling at strangers or saying good morning counts as
kindness!
World Kindness Day has a big influence. Studies show that being kind makes both the giver and the
receiver feel happier. It also brings people closer and reduces loneliness. Over the years, millions of people have
proved that small actions can make a big difference. The world is full of kind people. If you can’t find one, be one!

38.Which picture shows the change of the energy level with the time
A.
B.
C.
D.
39.What can we infer according to the text
A.The afternoon slump can be completely avoided.
B.Our energy levels are the highest in the early morning.
C.The afternoon slump is a problem for only students.
D.Simple actions like eating snacks helps get energy back.
