The word “zhiyin”, which means close friends, comes from the story of Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi in the Warring States Period (战国时期).
Boya was good at playing the guqin. One day, he was playing music on his way home on the boat. To Boya’s surprise, Ziqi, a passing woodcutter (樵夫) could understand exactly what he wanted to express through his music. After a long talk, they became good friends. Boya had to return to his state, so they agreed to meet again in the following year.
Unfortunately, when getting back to visit Ziqi, Boya heard that his friend had died of a disease. Boya was so sad and in front of Ziqi’s tomb (墓), he played again the music that he had played when they first met. The feeling of the music was so strong that it was as if the rivers and the mountains were crying. When finishing playing, Boya broke his guqin into pieces. From then on, Boya never played again.
People in the Song Dynasty built the Guqin Tai in Hanyang to commemorate (纪念) the deep friendship between Boya and Ziqi. It became a part of the local culture.

Many smartwatches today are great for your health. They can check how healthy your heart is and count your steps. Now, a new watch can even check the electrolytes (电解质) in your sweat (汗).
Electrolytes are important in our body, and now smartwatches can help us check them. We get electrolytes from our diet and they help us stay fit. If we don’t have enough electrolytes, we might feel tired, weak, or even have heart problems. When we sweat, we lose both water and electrolytes, especially during exercise or in hot weather. This is why keeping the right balance (平衡) of electrolytes is so important. With the help of a smartwatch that can check our electrolyte levels, we can better understand when our body needs more. By doing this, smartwatches can become a useful tool for staying healthy.
The new smartwatch collects sweat from the skin and checks it all the time. It has some special chips (芯片). They can check electrolyte levels in the user’s sweat. The team of Chinese scientists behind this watch tested it for six months. Its results were correct about 95 percent of the time.
The watch can tell the users if their electrolyte levels are too low. This helps prevent hurt during exercise. It gives users a chance to drink water or electrolyte drinks in time. This way, it is less likely that they will feel tired or get sick. But there is still one problem with the watch. It is bigger and heavier than other fitness watches. This makes it less comfortable to wear.
In the future, the scientists will try to make the watch smaller. They also hope to make new chips to check more things, like blood sugar (血糖). This will make the watch more useful for people with different health needs. As a result, it will make it easier for people to stay healthy and active.

A. We get them from sweat.
B. We get them from meals.
C. We get them from blood.
D. We get them from exercise.
( )71. How does the new smartwatch check electrolytes
A. By counting the user’s steps.
B. By collecting and checking the sweat.
C. By adding special chips to the body.
D. By checking how healthy the user’s heart is.
( )72. What are the scientists planning to do in the future
A. Make the watch much brighter.
B. Make the watch more expensive.
C. Make the watch only for the young.
D. Make the watch smaller and more helpful.

Conflict ( 冲突) is a common part of human life, but peace is a choice. Here is a story which may give us food for thought.
Between two mountains lay a small bridge. On each mountain lived a goat ( 山羊). Some days the goat from the western mountain would cross the bridge to eat grass on the eastern mountain. Some days the goat from the eastern mountain would have his meals on the western mountain. But one day both goats met in the middle of the bridge.
“Move off!” shouted the western goat.
“Move yourself!” cried the eastern goat.
As neither wanted to give way, they stood in anger for some time.
Then they began to push. As they were evenly matched in strength (力量), they finally pushed each other off the bridge.
In the story above, the two goats run into a conflict when they both try to cross the bridge at the same time. Unluckily, neither of them is willing to move out of the way. They are angry with each other. And this makes them unable to see the situation clearly or even think of another method. The story tells us: When coming into conflict, if we can keep cool and think of solutions, the result might be far more satisfying.

A sweet memory with friends
Life is a blank sheet of paper written by moments, and it is these sweet moments with friends that give it color.
Friends are very important in our life. They can share our happiness and sadness. They can support us when we are in need. I have a friend like this. We have known each other since we were very young. We often play together. She showed me that there’s always someone who has my back. I remember I was once very sad because I failed an exam. She was there for me. She comforted me and encouraged me to study harder. I will never forget that moment.
I hope we can be friends forever.

My name is Tina. In 2019, I started working for a help center called “Friendship Forever”. At first, I was bored with my work, and in a few years I began to like it. Every day, I talk to different people. Today, the first person to call was a 12-year-old boy named Billy. He had a quarrel with his best friend Martin. They used to go to the same primary school. They walked to school together for almost six years. Later, they went to different middle schools. Last week, Billy’s basketball team beat Martin’s team in an important game.
From that day on, Martin stopped talking to Billy. Yesterday Billy asked Martin to skate in the park, and Martin refused angrily. I talked to Billy for half an hour and gave him some advice. He felt much better when he left. I’m happy, too.

Hello, boys and girls, welcome to the Town Center. I hope that your visit here will be a pleasant one. Now I’d like to draw your attention to a few of the city rules.
The first one is about noise. You can enjoy yourselves as you like, but you are not allowed to make much noise, especially at night. Secondly, be careful when crossing the road. The traffic moves on the left side of the road in this city. You must use the crossings for walking. The third one is about smoking. It is against the law to smoke if you are under 16years of age.
I’m sure you’ll have an unforgettable tour!
