How to Keep a Friendship
For us, friendship is very important. If we have a close friend, we can share happiness and worries, which can make us enjoy a much happier life. Since friendship makes a great difference to us, we need to take it seriously and try our best to keep a friendship. My tips are as follows.
Firstly, we should always keep in touch with our friends by sending e-mails, writing letters or spending some time together regularly. Secondly, we should respect our friends and be honest with them. In addition, good friends are supposed to help each other when in trouble. Just as the old saying goes, “A friend in need is a friend indeed.”
In a word, if we want to keep a friendship, we’d better treat our friends as we want to be treated. And we should treasure friendship.

I was about 13 when I wrote my first letter to Renee. Renee was two years younger than me. She lived in France.
It was quite a thing to get a letter from a foreign country, so I looked forward to receiving her reply. She wasn’t so good at English, so after six months, we were all writing in French, which helped me get a good knowledge of the language.
I decided to go to France on holiday in 1949 to meet her, but Renee went hiking. The family treated me warmly. The first time I met Renee was in 1952. She picked me up at the station. Renee and I continued writing to each other, and our friendship became deeper. I moved to South Africa for a while in 1955, but we kept writing letters.
I’m 93 now and I still write to Renee. Most people don’t seem to have the time for letters anymore, but writing letters gives me great pleasure. More importantly, this is the lifelong friendship I have ever had.

Friendship Day is a great day for celebrating friendship. It falls on the first Sunday of August every year. Celebrating the festival started in 1935. With more and more countries joining in the celebrations, Friendship Day soon became a festival around the world. The traditional celebrations include activities such as meeting with friends and sharing cards, flowers and gifts with each other. Some people may have parties with their friends. Some may have lunch or dinner together. Others may hang out or go to the movies with friends on this special day.
Although Friendship Day and its celebrations may have changed over the years, the basic idea behind the festival remains the same. People enjoy the moment they spend together and express love and care for their friends.
