As part of my career exploration project I interviewed Li Yangyang, an ancient book restorer (修复者) in Wuhan. Li Yangyang has been working in this field for eight years and now has his own studio.
When asked how he entered this field, Li explained that it was an unexpected career path. The course Li attended during college was international business. In 2017, after graduating from college, he saw a company looking for ancient book restorers. It offered training for people without experience. He was curious, so he applied for the job.
Restoring ancient books, Li explained, is far more challenging than it looks. A project usually has more than 20 steps, such as taking photos for records, taking apart books, cleaning, binding and more. Some books are so wet that the pages stick together. Even the first step—flattening the pages—can take a whole day. One wrong move could break the page.
“It’s important for us to have a good sense of beauty,” Li added. Restoration isn’t just about “fixing” the book. The size and the colour of the new pages must match the restored ancient book. Beginners need to stay calm and respect the work. “Never work when impatient,” he warned. “Once, I almost broke a book because I was too angry.”
When it came to the future, Li felt hopeful about the field’s growth. With China attaching more importance to cultural heritage (遗产), ancient book restoration is growing fast. Since February, he has shared videos on Xiaohongshu and Douyin to show people what this work is about. Most of his followers are young people. This shows that more young people are interested in this field now.
31. What did Li Yangyang study in college
A. Art history. B. Chinese culture.
C. International business. D. Ancient book restoration.
32. Why does Li Yangyang say restoring ancient books is difficult
A. Because the books are too old. B. Because the first step takes much time.
C. Because it requires a lot of steps. D. Because the pages are always broken.
33. What’s the correct order of the following events about Li Yangyang
a. He nearly broke a book when angry.
b. He saw a company hiring restorers.
c. He was curious about ancient book restoration.
d. He shared videos on apps since February.
e. He began restoration work after training.
A. b-a-c-d-e B. b-c-e-a-d C. c-e-d-a-b D. c-d-b-a-e
34. Why does Li Yangyang share videos on social media
A. To make money by selling more ancient books.
B. To show his restoration studio for ancient books.
C. To find more people to help restore ancient books.
D. To let people know about ancient book restoration.
35. What does the passage mainly talk about
A. Li Yangyang’s personal life during college.
B. The future of ancient book restoration.
C. The skills needed for ancient book restoration.
D. Li Yangyang’s career as an ancient book restorer.

Ever since Rami Ahmed started sixth grade, he’s felt unnoticed. Having no friends to spend time with, Rami spends his afternoons in an art museum where his mom works. He waits for his mom to finish work there. When a painting disappears, Rami’s mom is a suspect. So is Rami! With the help of a turtle (海龟) named Agatha, a ghost named Blue and a classmate named Veda, Rami must race to clear his mom’s name and his own. It turns out that there is no so-called thief and that the thief and the motive (动机) are not what they seemed.

As the sun rises over the Tiaozini Wetlands in Jiangsu Province, China, thousands of birds fill the sky. This place is a World Heritage Site and one of the most important homes for migratory birds (候鸟) in the world. They find food and rest here during their long journeys.
Years ago, the government faced two choices: build factories for profit or protect the wetlands. At last, it chose nature over the city’s GDP growth! They spent millions to save the land, and in 2019, their hard work paid off—Tiaozini became China’s first coastal wetland World Heritage Site.
Now, Tiaozini is full of food for birds. People also have made special places for birds to rest and repaired parts of the wetlands. For these reasons, more birds are coming. Now, there are 414 kinds of birds here. As many bird species (物种) live here, the number is twice now compared to 10 years ago! Some are very rare, and they include 64 endangered bird species.
The wetlands don’t just help birds, they help local people too! Birdwatchers and photographers visit every year, bringing money to the area. The government created eco-friendly (环保的) tours and even a zero-carbon (no pollution) tourism zone. Now, fishing villages have become green tourism spots, and families make 10,000 yuan more per year.
Tiaozini shows us that protecting nature and making money can go together. The wetlands are now part of the local culture. People are proud of the birds and work together to protect them. This place is not just a success story. It is also a plan for the future. It reminds us that protecting nature is the best way forward. Every small effort can help create a world where humans and nature live together happily.

44. What does the writer think of Tiaozini’s development
A. It is a special case. B. It is a useless choice.

阅读下列短文,根据短文中的信息完成文后的表格。(每空一词)
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a hot topic in our daily lives. Its growing use in our lives has led to different ideas about it.
Some people believe that AI is a great tool that can make our lives better. AI acts as a smart helper across many fields, including healthcare, education, robotics and more. In education, if students have trouble with math problems, AI can help them solve problems step by step, which helps them learn better. AI can also do with some boring and repeating tasks, such as collecting and entering data (数据). By giving these jobs to AI, humans can devote more of their time to interesting and creative projects. With the help of AI, people can reduce mistakes. It’s especially important in healthcare, where AI can be very careful to operate on patients. Most importantly, by doing dangerous work for people, such as controlling animals, dealing with bombs and doing tasks in deep water, high places or outer space, AI can keep workers away from harm.
However, others think that AI comes with risks, especially if used improperly. One risk is that students may use AI to cheat (欺骗) on their homework more easily. If students depend too much on AI for answers, they may not learn how to think in different ways or solve problems on their own. Another problem with AI is the spread of information which is not true. AI can sometimes produce things that look real, which makes it hard for people to know what is true, and what is not.
In my opinion, AI will keep developing. By using it wisely, we can build a future where technology makes life better, fairer and safer for all. As AI grows smarter, let’s grow wiser too!

Kindness as Our Virtue
Being kind is a traditional virtue of Chinese people. I believe kindness is the foundation of a harmonious society. It not only brings warmth to others but also enriches our own lives. Small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect, inspiring more people to spread love and compassion.
Last winter, I noticed an elderly neighbor struggling to carry heavy groceries. Without hesitation, I offered to help her carry them home. She was deeply touched and thanked me repeatedly. Seeing her smile filled me with joy and a sense of fulfillment.
That experience made me realize how powerful kindness can be. It costs nothing but means everything. I felt proud to have made a difference, no matter how small. Kindness is a virtue we should all practice daily, as it makes the world a better place.
