Every year, national parks are crowded with visitors. Here are the top four named by The National Park Service.
Glacier National Park
In 1910, Glacier was established as the country’s 10th national park. Take advantage of the park’s expansive hiking trails(路线), and be sure to hit traveler favorites like the Trail of the Cedars and Iceberg Lake Trail. What’s more, Glacier National Park hosts plenty of free activities like guided hikes and appealing events ideal for visitors of all ages.
Grand Canyon National Park
First protected in 1893 as a forest reserve the Grand Canyon became an official US national park in 1919. The park offers endless hiking opportunities with trails of various lengths, as well as the chance to raft(漂流)the Colorado River. And if you’re looking for a different point, consider a helicopter tour to learn more about the park and see it in all its glory from above.
Yellowstone National Park
The world famous site became the first national park in the U. S. on March 1,1872, when President Grant signed the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act into law. Here, hikers can get lost in the beauty of the lakes, mountains, valleys and, of course, its unmatched hot springs. To avoid the crowds that often trouble Yellowstone, plan to visit in April, May, September or October.
Yosemite National Park
First protected in 1864, Yosemite National Park stands out for its impressive waterfalls. The best time to see waterfalls is during spring, when most of the snowmelt occurs. There are also plenty of scenic hiking and camping opportunities. Just keep in mind that campsites sell out quickly after becoming available for booking, so make your reservations in advance.

In a breathtaking incident in Berlin a young man narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation where he became trapped beneath a bus.
The 16-year-old found himself unable to move beneath a tyre (轮胎) of the bus when he fell down during an attempt to catch the departing vehicle at a local stop on a Monday afternoon. The quick response of the bus driver, who immediately stopped the vehicle, coupled with the assistance of roughly 40 people, including both passengers and bystanders, led to a remarkable achievement. Together, they managed to lift the right side of the bus sufficiently to free the young man.
Frank Kurze one of the courageous volunteers who participated in the rescue, recalled the messy scene, stating, “I saw the men trying to lift the bus, and it was clear to me that I also had to help lift the bus and try to pull the young man from underneath.”
Nearby medical professionals from a healthcare center in the Spandau neighborhood of Berlin instantly arrived at the scene to provide vital first aid. Michelle Rueckborn, one of the nurses on duty, shared their response, saying, “We were at work when we heard screams, and our coworker looked out of the window and saw what had happened, and said ‘Grab the doctor’s kit and run.’”
Sandra Grunwald, another nurse present at the scene, added, “He was responsive but understandably confused, unsure of what was unfolding around him.” Despite the frightening circumstances, the young man unbelievably survived with only minor injuries, thanks to the collective effort of around 40 individuals who came together to perform a heroic rescue.
The Berlin police department praised the collective efforts of those involved in the rescue as “heroes” and expressed their gratitude on social media, stating, “Thank you, Spandau. Thank you, Berlin.”
4. What was the accident at the bus stop
A. A teenager got caught under a bus. B. The tyre of a bus suddenly blew out.
C. A young passenger fell from his seat. D. The driver found the bus uncontrollable.
5. What did Frank Kurze do at the rescue scene
A. He recorded the whole event. B. He stepped forward bravely.
C. He turned to medical staff. D. He called more volunteers in.

The Australian sand octopus (章鱼) was discovered in 1990 and is the only octopus species known to bury itself deep in the sand to hide from enemies. A team of researchers are studying the venom (毒液) of this kind of octopus. They have discovered that the venom may greatly slow cancer growth. And it can also help fight drug resistance in patients with a BRAF-changed skin cancer. BRAF is involved in managing cell growth. A change in it results in abnormal cell growth. These BRAF changes are seen in half of all cases of skin cancers.
“We and other groups have previously discovered that other animals-snakes, spiders, bees-have anticancer properties,” said Dr. Maria, the study’s lead author. “However, in my current knowledge, the anticancer properties of an octopus species have never been studied or confirmed before.”
Current treatments face a few challenges including low response rates, poisoning and side effects, as well as drug resistance. The octopus venom slows the growth of BRAF-changed skin cancer. More importantly, it is safe to be used in large quantities — it is not poisonous. Therefore, in combination with other drugs, the treatments could potentially achieve better and safer patient outcomes.
It is very unlikely that the octopus has specifically developed its venom to contain an anticancer substance. According to the researching team, the octopus venom contains over 1,000 unique substances with several functions such as reducing pain and anticancer.
“In this study, we have shown that the octopus venom specifically targets BRAF-changed skin cancer. The next step is to examine whether similar promising results are applicable for other BRAF-changed cancers.” said Dr. Maria. “Before it can be used on patients, the team will need to perform several rounds of lab testing and clinical trials to understand how it works and its full potential as a drug against skin cancer.”
8. What can we know about BRAF
A. It is a change in cells. B. It controls cell growth.
C. It can cause a deadly illness. D. It helps to cure a skin cancer.
9. What discovery did the team make
A. A medicine to cure cancers. B. A substance contained in animals.
C. The medical value of octopus species. D. The anticancer effect of an octopus venom.
10. What is an advantage of the octopus venom to treat the skin cancer
A. It is of large quantity. B. It has no side effects.
C. It is less expensive. D. It has lower risks.
11. What can we infer from the last paragraph concerning the octopus venom
A. Its application requires further work.
B. It helps treat BRAF-changed cancers.
C. Its safety needs more clinical testings.
D. It has already been put into wide use.
D
Scientists at the UCL Institute for Neurology have developed new tools, based on AI language models, that can characterize subtle signatures in the speech of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia (精神分裂症). The research, published in PNAS, aims to understand how the automated analysis of language could help doctors and scientists diagnose and assess psychiatric (病) conditions.
Currently, psychiatric diagnosis is based almost entirely on talking with patients and those close to them, with only a minimal role for tests such as blood tests and brain scans. However, this lack of precision prevents a richer understanding of the causes of mental illness and the monitoring of treatment.
The researchers asked 26 participants with schizophrenia and 26 control participants to complete two verbal fluency tasks, where they were asked to name as many words as they could either belonging to the category “animals” or starting with the letter “p” in five minutes. To analyze the answers given by participants, the team used an AI language model to represent the meaning of words in a similar way to humans. They tested whether the words people naturally recalled could be predicted by the AI model, and whether this predictability was reduced in patients with schizophrenia.
They found that the answers given by control participants were indeed more predictable by the AI model than those generated by people with schizophrenia, and that this difference was largest in patients with more severe symptoms. The researchers think that this difference might have to do with the way the brain learns relationships between memories and ideas, and stores this information in so called “cognitive maps”.
The team now plan to use this technology in a larger sample of patients, across more diverse speech setting, to test whether it might prove useful in the clinic. Lead author, Dr. Matthew Nour, said: “There is enormous interest in using AI language models in medicine. If these tools prove safe, I expect they will begin to be used in the clinic within the next decade.”
12 What is the disadvantage of current psychiatric diagnosis
A. It is greatly related to blood tests. B. It mostly relies on talking with patients.
C It refers to the words of patients’ family. D. It can’t comprehend schizophrenia deeply.
13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The process of the research. B. The tasks of the participants.
C. The performance of researchers. D. The predictability of AI language models
14. What is Dr Matthew Nour’s attitude toward AI language models
A. Unclear. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Negative.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. AI language new tools used in the clinic. B. AI language tools developed by scientists.
C. AI language models treating schizophrenia. D. AI language models diagnosing schizophrenia.

In a house far from the city lived John and his mother. John’s only hobby was wandering in the nearby picturesque forest. In its center was a shiny clear lake with schools of fish dancing in it. Lovely animals such as deer or rabbits were playing around and cute birds were singing in trees. Fascinated by the beauty and liveliness of nature, he desired to become a great artist and present all the breath-taking scenes to the world.
John studied in the local primary school. Life was not easy for John and his mom after his father died. Knowing what hard work his mother did to make ends meet, John really didn’t want his mother to worry. His mother knew the significance of education in life but she was against his dream of becoming an artist. “The profession of artist can’t aid a person in meeting his daily expenses,” she would say. But as each day passed, John’s dream became more passionate.
Due to the living circumstances, even buying some new colors would be a luxury. John only used the worn drawing file and limited colors for his daily practice. Though lacking fine painting materials, he never gave up drawing. He spent a significant amount of time staying in the forest, secretly perfecting his craft. With continuous hard work and a distinct gift for art, he drew beautifully.
One day John read about a competition being held in the town, whose deadline was only two days away. He got the perfect opportunity to fulfill his desire but he was in a dilemma (两难境地) as for the competition he needed special paints and some brushes. He didn’t have the courage to ask his mother for money as he knew her prejudice against art.
That evening his mom returned from work and handed him a few paper notes, saying, “This is for your lunch at school next month.” The money was enough for his desired materials! John’s face lit up.

1. 续写词数应为150左右;

Dear students,
With summer holidays around the corner, water activities will be getting more and more popular. To protect ourselves from getting drowned, we make the following proposals.
First, a licensed water pool is always our No. 1 choice. What’s more, never do water sports without an adult’s company. Life jackets are strongly recommended, whether you are an expert or a green hand. Last but not least, try to spread knowledge about drowning prevention, which can help more people.

Early the next morning, John secretly left home with the money. Hastily, he bought paper and pens for painting, and then dashed to the completion. After signing up for it, he was given the task. It was his time. He was deeply absorbed in his work, forgetting everything around him. After finishing his task, he went home, with birds singing for him. Every day, he looked forward to the result happily and anxiously, though he felt hungry. It seemed that the time stopped.
A week later, a phone call came to John’s home. Hearing what the man said, his mother felt puzzled, not knowing how his son had done it, because she knew it needed money. As soon as John arrived home, his mother told him the news, and waited for his explanation. Knowing the truth, her eyes welled up with tears. Hugging her son tightly, she apologized to him. But he was happy, not only because he had got the perfect opportunity to fulfill his desire, but also he was awarded a lot of money because of his work.
