Animals can heal (治愈) their wounds (伤口) by themselves. In Sumatra, Indonisia, there is

wound on his face. Three days later, scientists see Rakus picking leaves from a vine (藤). These
leaves can help heal himself.

Just like people, animals can talk to their friends too. For example, killer whales (虎鲸)
have their own languages. They can make sounds to talk with each other, such as thistles (哨声)
and pulsed (脉冲的) calls. When their friends are nearby, they may use whistles to say hello and
pulsed calls can help group members know each other and work together.

Animals are our friends. We know that dogs can help blind people go to some places. Now,
horses can also do it. Digby is a small American horse. Now, it is the first guide horse in England.
And its owner is a blind man named Mohammed Patel. Patel is afraid of dogs, so he chooses
Digby as his guide.
Digby gets a lot of training with Patel. It learns to walk slowly and lead Patel to walk on the
street and get books and magazines for him. It also helps Patel choose clothes when he goes
shopping.
Now, it is not a small horse. It is very big and about 0.8 meters tall so Patel can’t take it to
his company. When Patel takes it to the office, it knocks things off the desks. So Patel has to say
goodbye to Digby. Luckily, Digby has a new job. It helps blind people travel around some places
in London. It also helps blind people get to the bus station.
As we know, a guide dog has only eight years of working life, but a guide horse can live for
about 50 years. So a guide horse can be a “lifelong friend” for people.

Many people might think that if they had more money, then they would be happier in life.
For example, people might look at what others have, like expensive clothes or nice cars, and wish
they could have the same. But the things that money can buy cannot bring happiness to a person
for a long time.
But is that really true Studies have found that money can, in fact, make people happier.
But it’s not having money that brings happiness. Instead, it’s giving money to others that makes
people happy. It could be buying a gift for a friend or a family member. It could be buying a
homeless person food to eat. It could be giving money to a person in need. Just think about the last
time you used your own money to do something for someone else. How did you feel Whether it
is a small large amount of money, people feel happier when they give. This is because making
someone else happy makes the giver happy, too.
This idea of connecting (关联) your happiness to the happiness of others is called “ubuntu”
in an African language. There is even a story about a man visiting Africa. He asked some children
to race to a nearby tree. The first child to touch the tree would get a sweet treat. Surprisingly, all
the children held hands and ran together. They all touched the tree at the same time. The man
asked why they did this. The children simply said they could only enjoy eating the treat if
everyone had one.
42.What does the writer say about buying things
A.Buying things can make people worried.
B.Buying things can make people scared.
C.Buying things may bring sadness for long.
D.Buying things may bring happiness for a short time.
43.Why does the writer write the story in paragraph 3
A.To explain (解释) Africans like sweets. B.To show children like to share sweets.
C.To explain the idea of happiness connecting. D.To tell happiness is from children.
44.What does the underlined word “they” refer to (指代) in the last paragraph
A.The trees. B.The sweets. C.The children. D.The others.
45.What does the writer try to tell us
A.Buying new things can make people happy.
B.The key to happiness is to make others happy.
C.If you want to be happy, you can visit Africa.
D.People who have a lot of money might not be happy.
But the things that money can buy cannot bring happiness to a
person for a long time.”
根据“This idea of connecting (关联) your happiness to the happiness of others
is called ‘ubuntu’ in an African language. There is even a story about a man visiting Africa.”
The man asked why they did this. The children simply said they could only
enjoy eating the treat if everyone had one.”
故推测 they 指代“the children”。

We paid a visit to the old people’s home last weekend. At 8:30 on Sunday morning, all my
classmates gathered at the school gate. Then we went to the old people’s home by bus. When we
arrived, we gave the old people our carefully-prepared gifts first. After that, we started to help
them clean the rooms and tidy up their things. To make them happy, some of us sang songs, some
danced, and others told interesting stories or chatted with them. The old people smiled brightly,
and they seemed very excited. I think this activity is really meaningful. On one hand, it makes
