第二节(满分 25 分)
【参考例文】
The mother elephant took a step forward, her eyes never leaving me.
My heart pounded as I held the scissors, frozen between fear and determination.
Slowly, I raised my hands to show I meant no harm, then pointed to the trapped
baby elephant and the wires. The mother paused, her trunk sniffing the air.
With trembling fingers, I began cutting again, whispering calming words. Each
part of the wire echoed loudly, but the mother remained still, as if
understanding my thought. Finally, the last wire was cut, and the baby elephant
was free.
Hours later, I watched the mother elephant and her baby from a
distance through cameras. They stood by the river, the baby elephant leaning
against its mother’s leg as she gently touched its wounded back with her trunk.
Seeing them safe, I smiled, feeling relieved. The morning mist had lifted,
painting the forest in golden light. The image of the mother’s trusting eyes
remained in my mind—a reminder that even in the wild, compassion could bridge
the gap between humans and nature. Nature had given me a chance to help, and
this time, I didn’t fail.

to spend a couple of hours preparing for my history examination at the
library before going home.
Text 2
M: The student’ s English club is having a party on Saturday night. Can you
come
W: I would like to, but I work at a restaurant on weekends.
Text 3
W: What are you doing here You said you were going to buy something for the
party.
M: Well, I had done that before I came here to enjoy the ancient paintings,
sculptures and many other antiques.
Text 4
W: Can I help you
M: Yes. I urgently need a room for tomorrow night, and do you have any rooms
available
W: Yes, we do. What kind of room would you like
M: I’d like a standard room with an ocean view, please.
Text 5
W: So you know that Sam has turned down the job offered by the travel agency.
M: Yes. The hours were convenient. But if he had accepted it, he wouldn’t have
been able to make ends meet.
Text 6

W: Oh, you must be going to Chicago this afternoon.

W: Well, you have finally got here. I’ ve been waiting for you in this
restaurant a full thirty minutes.
M: Sorry, Jennie. You know me. I’m always late.
W: Everybody knows, and everybody’ s getting tired of it. Five, ten, thirty
minutes! All the time! No one is that busy. Even in school you always
interrupt our teacher right in the middle of a sentence.
M: All I can say is sorry. Maybe I’ll make a change.
W: But I really can’t count on it.
Text 8
W: Hello, Eric. Now that the midterm examinations are over, a bunch of us are
going boating this weekend. I’ m calling to see whether you want to come
along.
M: But I’ve never done it before. I’m not sure whether I can manage it.
W: Oh, come on. There’ ll be an instructor in each boat. The scenery is
beautiful, and if it gets too hot, we can dive in whenever we feel like it.
The river’s really calm this time of the year, with no rapids to deal with.
Most importantly, this is our last chance to take a break before finals.
M: What would I have to bring
W: The people who run the trip have tents set up and they supply food. So, you
have to bring a swimming suit.
M: Great.
W: It’s about an hour and a half’s drive to the place where we meet the trip

back Let me see.
M: Promise that you won’t get angry.
W: OK, I promise. What is it
M: It’s a kitty.
W: Oh, Jim. I told you. No pets. It’ll make a mess of this house. I am always
too busy to tidy it up, so is your dad.
M: Please, Mummy. Everybody else in my class keeps a pet. Please, I’ ll take
care of it. It’s a good kitty. It’ll not bring you any trouble.
W: No way. It might belong to somebody else. You can’t keep it here.
M: Please, Mummy. I found it this afternoon by the garbage bin in front of our
house. It was starving and looking for something to eat. Please! You see, it’
s so cute.
W: All right. But you have to clean up everything it messes up.
M: I will. Thank you, Mummy.
Text 10
M: Very few people can get a college degree before 11, but Michael was an
exception. He started high school when he was 5, finishing in just nine months.
He became the world’ s youngest college graduate when he was 10 years old,
earning an architecture degree. Now at 11 Michael’ s working on a master’ s
degree in artificial intelligence.
But Michael’s success hasn’t always come easy. Despite his intelligence, he
still lacks important life experiences. In one class, he had to struggle to
understand romantic novels, because, he says, “I’m 11. I’ve never been in love
before.” Another challenge was his size. High school physical education was
difficult because all of the equipment was too big for the then five-year-old
student.
He likes computers so much that in graduate school he’s studying how to make
them think like people. He wants to make robots do all the heavy tasks.
Michael is smart, but he is like every other kid.W(县、
