As China’s animated film blockbuster Ne Zha 2 breaks box office records and receives critical praise, it has been revealed that the voice of its villain is China’s so-called coolest grandpa. Actor and model Wang Deshun, 89, who plays Wuliang Xianweng in the hit animated production, is seen by many as a perfect match for the character, who initially appears amiable (和蔼可亲的) but is later revealed to be cruel and ambitious.
Born in Shenyang, in northeastern China’s Liaoning province, Wang worked as a tram conductor and factory worker before becoming a theatre actor aged 24. A quarter of a century later, he felt his acting career had hit a bottleneck, so he resigned and moved to Beijing with his wife and two children. He began working out so he could achieve accurate bodily expressions on the stage. At 65, Wang learned how to ride a horse. In 2015, at the age of 79, Wang walked the runaway shirtless during China Fashion Week, wowing many people online. When he reached 80, he received training from his daughter and became an amateur DJ. At 85, the veteran actor became China’s oldest person to receive a pilot’s licence.
Wang played roles in many classic Chinese films and TV dramas such as Chuang Guandong in 2008, Reign of Assassins in 2010, and 20 Once Again in 2015. Wang said it took him three days to dub the character Wuliang Xianweng in June 2022. The production team only provided the lines he needed to perform, and he dubbed the character without knowing any of the plot lines.
Despite being the voice for the antagonist (敌手) in Ne Zha 2, Wang was seen by some to be the main character Ne Zha. The brave and resilient character refused to submit to his fate, fighting stereotypes and injustice in the two films. Likewise, in real life, Wang has refused to be bound by social norms. “I do whatever I want to do. It is never too late,” he said.
4. Why is Wang Deshun called “China’s coolest grandpa”
A. Because he played the villain in Ne Zha 2 in an outstanding way.
B. Because he kept challenging himself through diverse achievements.
C. Because he walked the runaway shirtless during China Fashion Week.
D. Because he became China’s oldest person to receive a pilot’s license.
5. Which of the following can best describe Wang Deshun’s personality
A. Adventurous and curious. B. Amiable and ambitious.
C. Cautious and disciplined. D. Cruel and dedicated.
6. Why is Wang compared to the character Ne Zha
A. Both show their ambition to break rules. B. Both are known for playing villain roles.
C. Both determine to submit to social norms. D. Both refuse to accept various stereotypes.
7. What can be a suitable title for the passage
A. Ne Zha 2: A Villain Voiced by an 89-Year-Old Actor
B. A legendary life: From a Tram Conductor to a Theatre actor
C. Breaking Boundaries: The Unconventional Journey of Wang Deshun
D. Behind the scenes: The Voice Acting Journey of Ne Zha 2’s Antagonist

Chinese AI Model DeepSeek-R1 Stuns (震惊) the World
January 20,2025,a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeekR1. This smart program can solve math problems, write code (代码) , and answer questions like top models such as OpenAl’s GPT-40, but it costs much less to build. The team spent only $5.58 million (1/70 of OpenAI’s cost) and used 2,048 computer chips for two months. This shows that good ideas can beat big money.
DeepSeek-R1 learns by trying many times and getting better, like how students practice maths. Other AIs need lots of prepared examples, but R1 improves by itself. For example, in a global math test, it got 79.8% right, slightly higher than OpenAI’s model. A simple version of R1 can even run on low-cost computers, helping schools and small companies.
DeepSeek-R1 is free to use and change. On its first day online, over 19,000 programmers worldwide started projects to study it. A German scientist said experiments with R1 cost $10 instead of $300 with other AIs. Even Meta (a famous U. S. tech company) top scientist said, “This kind of free AI could change the world.”
U. S. tech companies are worried. Meta plans to spend $65 billion more on AI research. Experts say China is catching up fast. A report in Nature magazine called R1 a “big step forward”, proving that smart ideas beat expensive tools.
As a DeepSeek engineer said, “We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use.” With R1, China shows the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money.
8. What is the main purpose of the article
A. To compare Chinese and American AI technologies
B. To explain how computer chips work.
C. To introduce a low-cost AI model from China.
D. To encourage students to become programmers
9. What does the underlined “improves by itself” mean in paragraph 2
A. It needs programmers to fix mistakes. B. It becomes better through practice.
C. It copies answers from other AIs. D. It only works with expensive tools.
10. Why did Meta plan to spend more money on AI research
A. To help Chinese companies.
B. To build more computer chips.
C. To keep up with advancements like DeepSeek-R1.
D. To hire German scientists.
11. What does the writer think is the most important for success
A. Having enough money. B. Copying other countries ideas.
C. Using the latest computer chips. D. Creativity and tireless efforts.

Suzhou Museum is always seeing a constant stream of visitors. It covers an area of 19,000 square meters and houses over 25,000 pieces and sets of cultural relics. It receives more than 2.5million visits annually. The museum was designed by famous architect Ieoh Ming Pei and has maintained high popularity since it was opened in 2006.
However, this structure was once challenged by high energy consumption, high operational cost and high carbon emissions. To address this challenge, Suzhou Museum decided to become carbon-neutral in 2021. Promoting low-carbon operations starts with accurately measuring energy consumption of the museum. Therefore, the museum invited a team led by Professor Wei Qingpeng from Tsinghua University to conduct a thorough analysis of the facility.
Additionally, many of the museum’s systems and pipelines were hidden within narrow spaces between floors, requiring staff to crawl (爬) into tight areas with instruments to collect data. After over two years of effort, the team completed the analysis of the museum’s structures, materials, and equipment. They presented a detailed report and a tailored plan.
With each piece of equipment being upgraded, a new energy ecosystem has gradually taken shape within the museum. “Even though the new equipment is advanced, if each system operates independently without cooperation, overall energy consumption won’t improve much,” said Wei. To address this, he developed a “digital brain”. This system creates a small-scale Internet of Things network within the museum, connecting all devices.
Wei told People’s Daily that his team is currently working on upgrading this “digital brain.” In the future, it will precisely manage energy distribution, determining, for example, how much energy each artifact (手工艺品) requires or how much cool air needs to be supplied to individual display cases daily. Suzhou Museum aims to transform itself into a secure, cooperative, green, and intelligent smart museum by 2025.
12. Why did Suzhou Museum invite a team from Tsinghua University
A. To design new exhibition areas and display more exhibits.
B. To repair the hidden pipelines for better facility operation.
C. To develop a new “digital brain” for museum management.
D. To investigate energy usage and plan energy-saving measures.
13 What does the author imply in paragraph 3
A. The museum is crowded and narrow.
B. The data collection process was significantly challenging.
C. The team completed the analysis with advanced equipment.
D. The analysis mainly concentrated on the museum’s outer look.
14. What will the “digital brain” do in the future
A. It will distribute energy accurately.
B. It will be used to train the museum staff.
C. It will help in the collection of new cultural relics.
D. It will manage the security system of the museum.
15. What is the main idea of the passage
A. The history and popularity of Suzhou Museum.
B. The unique architectural features of Suzhou Museum.
C. The cooperation between Suzhou Museum and Tsinghua University.
D. The transformation of Suzhou Museum into a carbon-neutral and smart one.

Anna loved to dance, who had been dancing since she was three years old. She dreamed of becoming a professional ballet dancer. She practiced every day with her teacher and her friends. Anna’s parents were proud of her, but they were also worried. They knew dancing was a demanding job for Anna, who had been born with a weak leg and had to wear a brace (支架) to support it. She had to work harder than other dancers, and she had to endure a lot of pain.
Anna’s parents wanted her to be happy, but they also wanted her to be realistic. They told her dancing was just a hobby. They said dancing was too risky, and that she should have other options. Anna understood her parents’ concerns, but she did not want to give up on her dream. She believed she could make it if she worked hard enough. She did not want to let her weak leg stop her from pursuing her dream.
