In China, the year 2024 is known as long nian in Chinese. Over a long period of time, it has been called the Year of the Dragon in English. But actually, there are a lot of differences between the Chinese long and the dragon.
The Chinese long is made up of parts of some gentle animals, such as a rabbit's eyes and an ox's ears. It can also spray(喷洒)water to create rain. However, in Western culture, a dragon breathes fire and has big wings of a bat. And it usually stands for evil(邪恶).
What makes such differences In fact, they have something to do with the cultural differences. In Chinese Confucian(儒家的)ideas, kindness and harmony(和谐)are very important. It is our duty to help each other and live a peaceful life. But Western culture prefers individual heroism(个人英雄主义). Whenever something terrible happens, there will be a superhero who is brave enough to fight against the enemy on his own and save the whole world.
In recent years, Chinese have tried to translate long in another way. For example, Zhejiang's Loong Air has already written long as Loong. Because Loong sounds the same as the Chinese character long. Besides, the letters "oo" in the word Loong look like the two big eyes of the animal, which makes it easier to memorize this word.
Anyway, no matter how it translates, there is one thing for sure: the Chinese long is different from the Western dragon, and it is a symbol of good luck.

C. It can create rain. D. It has ox's ears.

B. It shows that Chinese long is really long.
C. It looks and sounds similar to the word dragon in English.
D. It shows the cultural connection between long and dragons.
32. What is the main purpose of this text
A. To introduce the differences between long and dragons in detail.
B. To explain why Chinese people respect the traditional long.
C. To discuss how long became part of Chinese Confucian ideas.
D. To describe the importance of harmony and heroism in different cultures.

I never paid any attention to the girl because she was so common, even ugly-dark skin with a big face and small eyes that never seemed to open. Her grades were also poor, and the words she wrote were messy and hard to read. All the teachers paid little attention to her. Her seat was in the last row, near the corner, as if she were in her own small, silent world. One day in class, I let the students study on their own while I walked around to answer their questions. When I went to the last row, I suddenly smelled a fragrance(香气)of flowers, thick and sweet.
After searching, I found a small white flower, like a white butterfly, falling in her hair. It was gardenia(栀子花), my favorite flower. I couldn't help bowing my head to her and said "Hi". Hearing my voice, she looked up at me in surprise. When she saw a smile in my eyes, her face quickly turned red and she closed her mouth in embarrassment. At that moment, she smiled beautifully. For the rest of the time, I found her sitting upright and seriously doing the test. She even raised her hand to ask me a question she didn't understand.
The next day I found a gardenia was in my textbook. I guessed it was from her. Looking at her, I met her smiling eyes. I smiled back at her to show my thanks. She was nervous, then smiled widely. The other students didn't know why and just laughed.
We kept the secret between us. And what surprised me was she became much more lively, loved to sing and dance, and her classmates also liked her. Her grades improved so rapidly that all the teachers who taught her could no longer ignore her. A few years later, she unexpectedly entered a famous university.
Sometimes, you don't need a whole garden; just a gardenia flower is enough for a lifetime.

A. She was nice with big eyes. B. Her handwriting was messy.
C. She wanted to guard the world. D. Her classmates got on well with her.

C. Because all her classmates asked except her.
D. Because she wanted to give her teacher a hard time.
35. What does the underlined word "ignore" mean in the text
A. Show off. B. Care for.
