On January 20, 2025, a Chinese company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeek-R1. This AI can solve math problems, write computer codes and answer questions as well as the best AIs in the world. But ①it costs much less money to build. As an old saying goes in Xunpu, Fujian province, “Put flowers in your hair in this life and you’ll also be pretty in the afterlife.” In the past, all the women in the small fishing village had long hair, and then they put colorful and special floral (花的) headdresses on their hair. The headdress is known as zanhua. Zanhua was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
As a child, Huang Rongbing would watch his mother comb (梳理) her long and thick hair. After forming a bun at the back of her head, she would put colorful flowers into her hair.
The headdress inspired Huang’s career (职业) choice. In 2016, he and his older sister opened a salon. There, tourists can get their hair styled in the Xunpu tradition and have their photos taken. “We have been fully booked and now there are over 200 businesses offering services to dress tourists with a zanhua,” said Huang.
The increase in tourist visits has made Huang happy. That’s because it not only keeps the business busy but also helps spread the history and culture behind zanhua headwear.
After going through the full zanhua experience, Hu Titi, one of Huang’s customers, even brought zanhua culture to Paris in France last year. Under the Eiffel Tower, she shot photos and videos of herself dressed in traditional Chinese clothes with a zanhua in her hair.

Tasty rice dumplings with local variations in fillings have been a tradition of China’s Dragon Boat Festival for centuries.
The Duanwu Festival, otherwise known as the Dragon Boat Festival, was established in remembrance of Qu Yuan, a ministerial scholar and patriotic poet of the state of Chu during the Waring States period (475—221 BC).
Qu Yuan, who died by committing suicide (自杀) in the Miluo River, was known as a good man. Shortly after he died, the local people, at the time of the event, threw food into the water to distract (分散注意力), and feed, the fish from eating Qu Yuan’s body. They also sat on long, narrow boats, known as dragon boats, making sound to frighten away the fish.
Traditional celebrations of the Dragon Boat Festival include eating zongzi, drinking realgar wine, and racing dragon boats.

Zheng has been playing the erhu since she was 9, and she has won prizes in many national music competitions. Zheng arrived in Italy in 2021. Since April 2023, she has been performing on the street during her free time. And now she does three or four street shows a month.
At first, Zheng did not plan to perform on the street. But after watching a video of a violinist’s street performance, she changed her mind.
