Many children are introduced to animals through TV shows or movies. Shaun the Sheep, a popular
cartoon series, features a variety of animals living at the Mossy Bottom Farm. Among them, naughty
Shaun is the clever leader of his flock of sheep. Sheep in this series look a bit different from common
ones because the TV show used the Valais Blacknose sheep the model.
There are few animals that make people say “Aww!” in a high-toned voice as quickly as the Valais
Blacknose sheep. As the cutest sheep in the world, these animals come from the Valais region in
Switzerland. They are instantly recognizable thanks to their charming appearance. With spiral-shaped
horns (螺旋形的角), they have soft, white wool, which contrasts with the black patches spread evenly
over their faces and found on their ears, knees, and ankles.
The Valais Blacknose sheep have a rich history deeply rooted in the Swiss Alps. They were
originally raised in the 15th century for their highly valued wool. However, it was not until 1962 that
they were officially recognized as a breed (品种). Their population once dwindled, but continuous efforts
have been made to protect this unique breed. These efforts have been successful, and the Valais
Blacknose sheep can now be found in various parts of the globe.
Looking like a combination of a lamb and a teddy bear, the Valais Blacknose sheep has found its
place in the hearts of many people. They are also raised as pets due to their adorable, gentle, and friendly
nature, which makes them perfect companions. However, it’s important for owners to consider their
needs, including suitable living environment, nutrition (营养), and space to get around. Whether as wool
producers or beloved pets, the Valais Blacknose sheep have gained their fame in being helpful animals.

Cultural heritage is a treasure that connects us to our past, but preserving it is not always easy. Many
historical buildings, and artworks are at risk of damage because of natural disasters, pollution, or simply
the passage of time. Fortunately, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now playing a key role in protecting and
restoring these precious pieces of history.
One way AI helps is through digital restoration. For example, ancient paintings or sculptures that
have been damaged over time can be scanned and analyzed by AI algorithms (算法). These algorithms
can then recreate missing parts or colors, allowing experts to see what the artwork might have looked
like centuries ago. In 2021, AI was used to restore a famous painting by Rembrandt, bringing its original
beauty back to life.
AI is also used to monitor the condition of cultural sites. Sensors and cameras can be placed in
museums or historical buildings to collect data on temperature, humidity (湿度), and light levels. AI
systems analyze this data to detect any changes that could harm the artwork. If a problem is found,
experts can take action before it’s too late.
Another exciting application of AI is in virtual reconstruction. Some historical sites have been
destroyed by wars or natural disasters, but with AI, we can recreate them in virtual reality (VR). For
example, AI has been used to rebuild the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria, which was severely damaged
during the conflict. People can now explore this lost city through VR, learning about its history and
culture.
However, there are challenges to using AI in cultural preservation. One concern is the cost of
developing and maintaining these technologies. Another is the need for skilled professionals who can
work with both AI and cultural heritage. Despite these challenges, it is believed that AI will continue to
be a powerful tool in protecting our shared history for future generations.
28. Why are many historical artworks in danger of damage
A. Because of the lack of AI technology.
B. Owing to the incorrect use of restoration methods.
C. Due to natural disasters, pollution or the passage of time.
D. Because there are not enough museums to display them.
29. According to paragraph 3, which of the following statements is true
A. Only cameras are used to collect data.
B. AI systems can directly fix the problems found.
C. The data collected is mainly about the appearance of artworks.
D. AI systems collects and analyzes data to detect potential risks.
30. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of AI in cultural heritage preservation
A. Optimistic. B. Cautious. C. Doubtful. D. Unconcerned.
31. What is the main purpose of the passage
A. To explain how AI is used in modern art creation.
B. To discuss the challenges of preserving cultural heritage without technology.
C. To describe how AI is helping to protect and restore cultural heritage.
D. To argue that AI is more important than human experts in cultural preservation.
D
Rap music has long been the poster child for negativity in society for a number of decades. It has
been criticized (批评) in the media and seen by a good number of people as a bad influence on citizens
in general. The lyrics might have something to blame in this regard as they often seemingly celebrate
violence as well as drugs and alcohol. The reality is that rap music is greatly misunderstood. In spite of
the negativity that often surrounds it, however, rap music can have a positive influence on listeners.
One of these positive effects is that it has been used as a great unifier of diverse populations around
the world. It started as a subculture among African American communities in America but it is now a
phenomenon of global culture. As a matter of fact, it isn't only limited to African American communities,
as non black communities make up seventy five percent of the global rap audience. Its infectious rhythms,
catchy beats, and relatable lyrics hold universal attraction that goes beyond cultural and language barriers.
Rap has also been vital in promoting social and political awareness among the youth of today. Rap
music educates people from different points of views and raises many social issues. Rap is channel (渠
道) for people to speak freely about their view on political or social issues and by doing so, it encourages
teenagers to become concerned and aware of these issues. A few of them that rap has created awareness
in are racial discrimination (歧视), the importance of education and believing in your dreams.
Rap music is entertainment (娱乐) and should not be treated any differently than any other form of
entertainment out there. If critics of rap music still believe that rap only sends negative messages, they
should listen closer. The bottom line is that all rap music is not degenerate (堕落的) and consideration
should be taken when analysing the message that the music is presenting
32. Why is rap music often connected with negativity
A. It has long been the poster child for negativity.
B. It seems to celebrate violence as well as drugs and alcohol.
C. It has shown a bad influence on citizens in general.
D. It started as a subculture among African American communities.
33. What helps rap music gain great popularity around the globe
A. Its engaging music elements like rhythms, lyrics and beats.
B. Its positive influence on listeners around the world.
C. Its continuous promotion of social and political awareness.
D. Its African American culture that fascinates non black communities.
34. How does rap encourage teenagers to become more aware of social issues
A. By making social issues more entertaining.
B. By providing a platform to voice their opinions
C. By stressing the importance of education and dreams.
D. By drawing teenagers’ attention to racial discrimination.
35. What can be inferred about rap music in the last paragraph
A. Rap music is suitable for everyone. B. Rap music is now unfairly treated.
C. Rap music is difficult to understand. D. Rap music is simply for entertainment.

Why an Early Start Is the ‘Quintessence of Life’(生活的精髓)
Research published in the journal Emotion shows that early risers enjoy a more positive mood and
better motional regulation than those who wake up late. The benefits of getting up early are clear.
36 Here are a few things to keep in mind:
This morning started last night.
Early rising is really the second part of two habits. 37 This probably seems like the easier
habit to keep, but for many people it isn’t. For many young adults, the problem is what psychologists
call “revenge bedtime procrastination” (报复性熬夜). Or they simply find it hard to turn off their mental
machine. For this issue, a consistent bedtime routine and reducing screen time can help to earlier sleep.
38
One reasons people struggle to rise early is because they aren’t required to do so. When there is no
penalty for oversleeping, it is all too easy to hit the snooze button and continue sleeping. Setting a fixed
morning commitment, like a workout or an early class, increases the “cost” of staying in bed. Even a
trivial task immediately after the alarm can discourage further sleep, gradually transforming a habitual
night owl into an early riser.
Make early rising divine (神圣的).
Many religions use the time before dawn for prayer and worship (崇拜), believing the quiet morning
brings peace and clear thoughts. 39 By rising early, you welcome a new day full of energy and
hope. This practice not only helps us start the day with a positive spirit but also prepares us to face
challenges with calm and strength.
For the early risers among us, this means a before dawn routine will start to become a true part of
your life by the end of January; for the late sleepers, it could take until sometime in September. It felt
pretty bad to leave our warm bed when it was still dark. 40
A. Raise the cost of not getting up. B. Lower the difficulty of getting up.
C. The first part is going to bed early enough that you get sufficient sleep.
D. Even those who do not believe can enjoy these special hours.
E. Quality sleep depends on avoiding late-night snacks and exercise.
F. But it was worth it: the early morning time is now the best time of a day.
G. But what do you need to do to succeed in your resolution and develop this habit

第二节:(满分 15 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My grandpa lived at the top of a mountain all by himself. This was my first time to stay with him. I
was curious about everything around. Sometimes I went into the woods and pretended that I was Alex
the Adventurer. I must stay near and I couldn’t go past the big rock alone. This way, Grandpa could
always see me from the yard.
One morning, I raced up the path back to Grandpa’s yard as fast as I could. “Grandpa, I hear
something strange in your woods!” I told him. He saw the excitement and fear in my eyes. “Let’s go to
find out what it is.” He took my hand with his big and warm one. As we hiked toward the big rock, I
held Grandpa’s hand tighter. I could feel my palms becoming sweaty.
Cack-cack-cack (呱呱呱)! There was that sound! I grabbed Grandpa’s leg. “What is that, Grandpa ”
I whispered. “It’s the first sign of spring,” he said. “How about you going past the big rock a bit. See if
you can find out what it is.” “By myself ” I hesitated, unsure of what to do next. “I promise it’s safe,”
he gently encouraged me. “And I’ll stay here by the big rock where you can see me.”
“No.” I looked at Grandpa. His whole face seemed to be smiling, even his eyes. I wondered what
an adventurer would do. I stood up straighter and made a brave face. “Grandpa,” I said, “I think I can do
it.”
Crunch! Crunch! My feet stepped on the dead leaves as I got closer. Suddenly there was silence. I
stopped and looked back. My face must not look so brave, because Grandpa said, “It’s all right, Alex.
Just a little further.”
