On the first day of high school, Lily stood in front of her bedroom mirror, adjusting her bright yellow sweater. Her heart raced with excitement and nerves. She really wanted to find where she belonged and make friends in this new world.
As Lily stepped onto the school campus, the air was thick with the sounds of chatter and laughter. She looked around and saw a group of girls standing in a corner. One girl, Jessica, who had long, pretty hair, waved at Lily. Lily’s heart started beating even faster. She walked over with a big smile. Jessica said that they were going to an amazing party that weekend and that she should definitely go. Lily felt so happy, thinking this was her chance to be part of them.
At lunchtime, the girls chattered non-stop about the upcoming party, their laughter filling the air. However, as the conversation progressed, it took an unexpected turn. They started talking about skipping classes. At first, Lily laughed along, trying to fit in, but a sense of unease settled in the pit of her stomach. When they asked her to sneak (偷溜) out at night, she murmured, "I’m not sure about that." "Come on, Lily! Everyone does it! You want to fit in, right " Jessica insisted. Lily forced a smile and nodded, but she felt so torn.
One day, things took a turn for the worse. Jessica and her friends encouraged Lily to try smoking a cigarette. But as Lily held the cigarette in her hand, fear gripped her. At that moment, she knew this wasn’t who she was.
Overwhelmed and stressed, Lily decided to go to the art room alone. When she picked up a paintbrush and started to paint, she found that the colors on the canvas created a safe space where she could forget her problems and feel calm. Just then, the door creaked open, and a girl with curly hair walked in. The girl introduced herself as Mia. As they started to talk, they discovered a shared love for art, and soon, they were chatting about their favorite movies, books, and hobbies. In contrast to her time with Jessica’s group, Lily felt at ease with Mia.

(2) [2025·广东佛山·一模] Once upon a time, in an old Italian town, lived a little girl named Piccola. She was an only child, sharing her home with her hardworking mother, who worked as a laundress and cleaner until the late hours of the night.
Her house had a tiny garden, surrounded by a stone wall. She would sit out there and play with a ragged doll. Through a narrow crack (裂缝) in the stone wall, Piccola’s curious gaze often wandered to a neighboring garden filled with laughter, beautiful colors, and the joyful play of three children. Piccola watched in wonder as they danced, sang and played with their brightly colored toys. From that day on, she secretly admired them from afar, but was too shy to talk to them.
One fine morning, though, the youngest of the children saw Piccola’s eye peering through the crack in the garden wall. “Hello!” he said. “Who are you ” Piccola found the courage to speak. “My name is Piccola!” she replied, “I love to watch you play in your beautiful sunny garden!” The little boy called his big brother and sister. They were curious about Piccola, and asked her many questions about her life.
That evening, the children told their father about the mysterious girl who lived next door, and how she was all alone in her house some days. Could she come and play with them Their father got his hammer and chipped a hole in the wall big enough for Piccola to get through.
When she entered the neighbors’ garden, Piccola felt shy about her ragged old dress. She didn’t even have proper shoes to wear, just a pair of simple wooden ones. Piccola needn’t have worried! Her neighbors welcomed her and showed her new games to play. From that day on, they became good friends.
The day before Christmas, her neighbors began to chat about the gifts Father Christmas would bring them. “What do you want for Christmas Piccola,” her neighbors asked. “I hope he will bring me a new doll for Christmas, but I have never received one before,” she felt very depressed. “He knows everything,” the neighbors comforted her.

Jane was a sweet farm girl, brought up by her late grandmother. Her family managed a stretch of cornfield. The cornfield lay south of a stream, which was in turn south of vast woods. When she was little, her days were mostly spent running and exploring on the cornfield where her parents worked.
Jane had always loved nature, as her grandmother would take her on engaging walks through the cornfield and sometimes into the woods. Together, they would marvel at how ants worked together to carry leaves many times their size or how spiders wove perfect webs for food. “There’s so much wisdom in the world around us,” her grandmother would say, “All you have to do is look carefully and listen intently.”
She also got inspiration from her science lessons. Her teacher introduced a fascinating topic: beavers. Jane listened attentively and learned how these industrious animals build natural dams. She marveled at how these amazing creatures build such a steady architecture (dam) simply with branches, stones and mud by the riverbank. She was also surprised to know that they make an overflow channel to let extra water flow into a low, grassy area. “Beavers are such wise engineers. They don’t just block water with their dams, but they also redirect it.” the teacher vividly illustrated. Jane was totally captivated. It reminded her of Grandma’s lessons on the cornfield.
Rainy seasons came, and the air thick with the promise of storm. Staring out of the window, Dad sighed, and worriedly said: “When the stream overflows, the cornfield will be flooded.” Mom held his hand tightly. “We’ll just have to hope the damage is not too severe,” she sighed quietly, “if only there’s a way...”
Silence swelled the room. Jane was filled with worry. Her thoughts lingered on the cornfield that held the cherished memories of countless walks with Grandma, though she was not with her any more. Jane felt an overwhelming need to protect this special place from the upcoming storm.

In 2015, Emma Carlson Berne had just had her third child. She loved her role as a mother, but she often felt consumed by it, like her life would never return to normal. One day, when her baby was about three months old, she decided that her whole family—her husband, her two young boys and her new baby boy-should get out of the house and go to a restaurant.
They tumbled out of the car, ready with a diaper (尿布) bag, books for the kids to read, a seat for the baby and bags of snacks. As soon as they stepped onto the curb, her baby was ready to nurse again, and Berne knew she had to get inside.
"I was already feeling pretty shaky," she recalled. "So we all pile into the restaurant. We're very messy; we're very loud."
Her baby thrashed (剧烈扭动) around as she tried to nurse him under a blanket, and she worried he was about to cry. Berne began to feel hopeless. “I was feeling a little teary-eyed because, although we were doing it, this was really hard."
A short time later, her unsung hero appeared:an older woman, who reminded Berne of her own mum. This woman came up and stood there and looked at them. And Berne was sort of preparing that she was goingto say how cute the baby was. Instead, the woman took them all in.
She said admiringly, "What a beautiful family."
Then she looked at Berne's two young boys, ages 6 and 3, sitting quietly on Berne's side of the table. And she said, "It's not easy to sit at a table for a long time. "The woman sawher older children in a way few people seemed to, now that they were no longer in the infant(婴儿)stage. "Nobody ever noticed them anymore," Berne recalled.

“The adventure race is starting in five minutes, everyone! Please get ready!” the teacher announced cheerfully.
On a Saturday morning, I was stretching and warming up with the rest of my teammates as the cool morning breeze brushed against my skin. My school had planned an adventure race for my level and we were required to take pictures of our surroundings with a camera during the race.
Before I knew it, the adventure race was starting as teams started gathering at the checkpoints. It was not long before the sound of the whistle was heard. Determinedly, my team members, Irene, Jennie and Lucas started venturing out in the forest. Walking purposefully onto the path of the forest, we took numerous photographs of the greenery around us. Not too long after, we started feeling anxious as we could no longer see any trees that were marked, indicating that we had lost the path we were supposed to follow.
Finding ourselves in a fix, we were worried about how we were going to get back on track and were panicking. “Perhaps... we can look through the photographs we took to see our previous location,” Jennie suggested while holding the camera. Needless to say, we readily agreed to her idea and started looking through the pictures. Little did we know that “someone” was stealthily spying on us. Out of nowhere, our camera was suddenly taken away!
Apparently nobody was there and we stood in shocked silence, feeling thunderstruck. Just then, I heard the rustling(沙沙声) of trees. Confused, I looked up at the trees. Then, I saw it! A flash appeared on one of the tree branches, and I gestured my teammates to keep quiet. I was astonished by the sight that greeted me. A monkey was holding up our camera on the tree.

The boys in the block were going to have a roller-skating (滑旱冰) race next Saturday. They were divided into two teams: the Sunnysiders and the Shadysiders, with five boys on each team. Andy was on the Sunnysiders. They lost last year, so they were desperate to win this time. But Andy knew his short legs made it hard for him to skate fast.
One day, Andy was greeted by a pleasant "Hello" as he was putting on his roller-skates. He looked up and saw his new neighbor, Francis. "Hello!" he replied cheerfully, noticing his neighbor’s long legs. "Wanna skate with me Look at your long legs! Just the right kind to make you a good skater." "I’d love to. You know, I’m really good at roller skating and I used to help my team win." Francis said, his tone now heavy with sadness. "But I lost my roller skates and my mom just cannot afford to buy me another pair."
Andy thought it was a shame for Francis. As a new comer, there were undoubtedly many moments when he must have felt lonely. Andy thought to himself, wondering what he could do for Francis. But he had to say goodbye in a hurry since the team were meeting in the open space on the corner to talk over some plans.
When talking to the team captain, Andy suggested adding another boy to their team, Francis. But the captain said "No" as the team knew nothing about him. Besides, the Shadysiders wouldn’t let them take on an extra player.
In the following days, Andy practiced very hard with his team. Then came the day before the race when he saw Francis on the sidewalk, watching them skate past, his eyes filled with a sense of loss. Somehow it upset Andy, and his desire to help his new neighbor resurfaced. Then he thought of a way that could not only help his team win, but help Francis fit in.

Dear Ben,
I was surprised to hear that you used AI to complete your homework and were praised by your teacher. While it might seem like an easy way to get good results, using AI in this way is not right. Learning is about understanding and growing, not just getting good grades. Relying on AI can prevent you from developing your own skills and thinking independently.
I suggest you talk to your teacher and apologize. Honesty is always the best policy, and your teacher will appreciate your courage to admit your mistake. Remember, true success comes from hard work and integrity.
Wishing you all the best!
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Jim,
I'm thrilled to hear you're planning a trip to China this summer! Based on your interest in cutting - edge technology, I highly recommend Shenzhen as your top destination.
Firstly, Shenzhen's public transportation system offers autonomous buses that students frequently use for campus commuting. You can scan QR code tickets through bus windows using your smartphone. Secondly, the city's cashless ecosystem allows facial recognition payments at school cafeterias and vending machines - my classmates often purchase snacks simply by smiling at cameras. Lastly, don't miss the interactive tech museums where you can program robots through gesture control and experience VR classrooms, activities particularly popular among teenage visitors.
What makes Shenzhen unique is how seamlessly technology integrates into ordinary people's lives. I'm confident you'll gain authentic insights into China's tech development through these hands - on experiences.
Wishing you an enlightening journey!
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Chris,
I am writing to share with you a competition I took part in last week. The school reading club I am in organized a logo design contest, and I submitted my own work.
Here's my logo. I used a stylized image of a book with a rising sun behind it to demonstrate the club's spirit. The book stands for knowledge, and the sun represents the bright future. The book is open, revealing a world map, which shows our global perspective and passion for learning about different cultures. I chose a simple yet vibrant color to make it eye-catching and memorable.
The whole experience was exciting! Not only did I contribute to our club but I showcased my creativity. I feel proud to have taken part and hope that my design will be awarded a prize. I will keep you updated with the result, and I'm so glad I could share this with you.
Yours,
Li Hua

For weeks, Lily felt caught between Mia and Jessica. Jessica kept inviting her to more parties full of bad behaviors. Lily was afraid of losing this so-called "friendship". Meanwhile, Mia often asked Lily to take part in art-related activities. They would go to art galleries or paint together in the studio. Lily was drawn to the pure and positive atmosphere with Mia, but she was still hesitant to cut ties with Jessica. One day, Jessica’s group planned a dangerous prank during a school event. Lily firmly refused, realizing she couldn’t follow them any longer.
As she walked away from Jessica, Lily felt a weight off her mind. She rushed to Mia’s side and told her everything. Mia hugged her tightly and said, "You made the right choice, Lily." From then on, Lily dedicated more time to art with Mia. They inspired each other, and their art skills improved rapidly. They even held a small art exhibition at school. Lily finally found her real circle of friends and a place where she truly belonged, a world filled with art and positive energy.

After she left, the neighbors looked at each other and then made a decision. Secretly, they pooled their pocket money and set out to the local toy store. There, they carefully selected a beautiful doll, dressed in the finest clothes, with a sweet smile that seemed to promise endless joy. On Christmas Eve, as snowflakes gently danced in the air, Piccola sat in her tiny garden, feeling a twinge of sadness thinking about her unfulfilled wish. Little did she know, her friends’ thoughtful gesture would soon turn her sadness into pure joy.
On Christmas morning, Piccola heard a knock on the newly widened hole in the wall. Excitedly, she peered out to find her new friends standing there, holding a beautifully wrapped present. “Merry Christmas, Piccola!” they exclaimed in unison. “We wanted to make sure Santa didn’t forget you this year.” With trembling hands, Piccola unwrapped the gift to reveal the exquisite doll, her eyes widening in disbelief and joy. Overcome with emotion, she hugged the doll tightly, tears of happiness streaming down her cheeks. “Thank you so much,” she whispered, her heart filled with gratitude and the warmth of newfound friendship. That Christmas, Piccola learned that sometimes the best gifts come from the kindness of others.

Thinking of grandma’s words, Jane spoke up: “I have an idea!” “We could learn from the beavers! To redirect the water with a dam.” She announced to her parents with light of inspiration shimmering in her eyes. Hearing out Jane’s plan, the family set out for the cornfield with some gloves, buckets, shovels and a cart. No sooner had they arrived at the stream bank, they sprang to work, gathering branches and stones to build a structure before gluing them steady with mud. Then, with the shovels, they together dug a narrow channel to guide the rushing water away from the cornfield, directing it towards the vast woods. Though the work was, the family worked tirelessly. With all the preparation done, they hoped for the best. Before long, a rainstorm arrived.
It had rained for several days, the water level rose. Standing at the window with a worried heart, Jane checked the cornfield from time to time. Overlooking at the lush field, she broke out a proud smile — the cornfield remained untouched and flourishing, a vivid sea of green stretching peacefully. Her parents joined her at the window, eyes widening in disbelief and gratitude as they realized their precious cornfield had been spared. “Jane, your idea worked!” Mom exclaimed, pulling her into a tight hug. Dad, usually reserved, gave her a proud, hearty pat on the back, as he uttered in an approving voice: “We all learned a lot from those beavers.” It dawned on her that this experience had deepened her love for nature, igniting in her a passion to learn its secrets and share its wisdom.

“How are we supposed to get back our one and only camera now ” Irene asked. It was not long before we started our mission to distract the monkey. In a bid to get the monkey's attention, I cautiously took out a banana from my backpack. The monkey instantly let go of the camera and its eyes lit up with joy. Meanwhile, Jennie was jumping around, trying her best to catch the camera. Without wasting a moment, we ran as fast as we could. It was some time later when we stopped running.
Quite coincidentally, we had been back on track. The marked trees came in our sight. Bearing in mind that we still needed to complete the adventure race, we made our way along the path. Eventually, we passed the finish line of the race and were excited with joy to have completed it despite the predicament that we were in. “That was surely an exciting adventure,” I commented with a cheerful smile as the rest shared the same opinion as I did. I would never forget my teammates and I working together despite the accident. Recalling the exciting adventure, I still swelled with pride.

Thank you for stopping to help me.” After some effort, Alex successfully fixed the car. Mr Thompson’s face lit up with a long-awaited smile. He shook our hands tightly and said, “Thank you so much! After saying goodbye to Mr Thompson, we walked to our car. The sunset’s golden light shone on the car windows, filling our trip with warmth. As we approached, I noticed a card on the window. It read “Thank you for your help. I hope your journey is filled with sunshine.” It turned out that Mr Thompson had quietly left it while we were fixing his car. This card made us feel very warm, like it was the best proof of our kindness on the journey.

He rushed to Francis, excited to tell him his plan. "Francis, you can use my skates in the race tomorrow! " Andy yelled, eyes shining with hope. Francis hesitated. Noticing that, Andy explained that having him on their team would not only boost their chances of winning but also help him make more friends. Eventually, Francis put on the roller-skates and skated around, his talent instantly impressing the captain who was nearby. Struck by Francis’ excellent skills, the captain agreed to include the new boy. At that moment, Andy felt a touch of emptiness for giving up his own chance, but a surge of excitement for the plan as well.
The next day, the race began as scheduled. Francis, wearing Andy’s skates, stood at the starting line, looking determined, while Andy, from the sidelines, felt a mix of anticipation and nervousness. The race was intense, but Francis’ excellent skating skills helped the Sunnysiders finally win the race. Once the race was finished, Francis, now part of the team, skated over to Andy with the others. Cheers filled the air, and Andy experienced a swell of pride and a profound sense of accomplishment for the success of his friend and the team.
