Shang Yang was a politician of the Qin state. He was very wise and forward-thinking. He worked out
several reform plans for the state, including focusing on farming and giving rewards to soldiers who were
successful during wars.
But at the beginning, these reforms were not easily carried out. Only a few people in the state understood
Shang’s talent and the advantages of his plans. Most people had little trust and confidence in him.
To solve this problem, Shang came up with an idea. He ordered some soldiers to put a thin wooden pole at
the south gate of the Qin state capital. This attracted many people. Then, in front of the crowd, he said loudly,
“People of Qin, whoever takes this pole to the north gate will get a reward of 10 gold pieces.”
It was a simple task and the reward was big. Some people passed and no one stepped forward. They all
thought that Shang was joking. Hearing no answer, Shang stepped forward and said, “I will increase the reward to
50 gold pieces.”
The words sounded even more unbelievable. Finally, a man from the crowd came forward to take the pole.
He put the pole on his shoulders and walked to the north gate. True to his word, Shang paid the man 50 gold
pieces.
Soon, the people were saying that Shang was a man of his word. When he began promoting his reforms, the

Have you noticed that the more you learn, the less you know That is because when you learned a new
concept , you found that there was a lot more to know about it.
Usually, people think they need to get more and more information before trying a new idea. There is
nothing wrong with learning a lot, but when you let learning get in the way of doing, you will never get going.
One of the best ways to learn is to take action and learn from the results that you get from those actions.
Don’t be afraid of not being perfect and just take the first step. You will go further than those who are still in
preparation. It’s good to be prepared, but over-preparation in trying to reach a goal won’t get you results. The
knowledge and skills that you need will be picked up along the way.
If a baby wants to learn how to walk, he doesn’t do it by just sitting there and thinking about how to walk.
The best approach for a baby to walk is to actually get up and start walking. Sure he may fall, but with every fall,
he learns what is walking and what is not and adjusts to it. By doing this over and over, he will finally learn to
walk. This is the method you should use when you want to achieve your goals as well. It works well.
Learning more is great but if all you’re doing is learning and not taking action, it’s time to change that. Just
take the first step.
63.Where will you get the knowledge and skills you need according to the text
A.It will be picked up along the way. B.It will be picked up before taking action.

64.Which of the following does the writer disagree with
A.Learning has nothing to do with doing.
B.One of the best ways to learn is to take action.
C.People need to learn a lot before trying a new idea. D.Over-preparation is not good for reaching a goal.
65.What does the underlined word “approach” probably mean
A.Study. B.Exam. C.Custom. D.Way.
66.What should a baby do when he wants to learn how to walk
A.Get up and start walking. B.Prepare for walking for a long time.
C.Sit there and think about how to walk. D.Get more information before walking.
67.Which can be the best title for the text
A.The Ways of Learning B.The Secret of Success
C.The Importance of Doing D.The Importance of Learning
(D)
Have you ever watched a show about the wild A shark eats a seal! Lions run down a gazelle(羚羊)! Is all
nature like that All about eating and blood Or is that just what keeps our eyes glued to the TV screen Let’s
look at some living things who work with each other instead of ripping each other apart.
When a lion kills a gazelle, it wants to eat as much as it can and maybe share the rest with its family. There
are some living things that will take small pieces of another living thing’s body. Parasitism(寄生) is when one
living thing gets its energy from another living thing, does not give anything back, and hurts the thing it’s taking
things from.
Now let’s get a little nicer. Sometimes a living thing will live off the body of another living thing without
hurting it. They do not steal anything. They do not mensalism is when two living things live together
and one gets good things out of it while the other is not hurt by it. Have you seen a picture of a whale with rocky
white things stuck to its skin Those are banacles(藤壶). They attach themselves to the whale, so nothing will try
to eat them and they can eat things that float by.
Now let’s get really nice. “While sharks are biting and lions are fighting, are there any animals that just get
along Yes! Actually, there are many. Mutualism is when two living things work together and both get good
things out of it. Bees and flowers are the most common example. Without flowers, bees could not make honey.
Without bees, flowers could not make new seeds. It’s a win-win for these two. There are lots of animals that get
along. Birds will live on the backs of zebras and eat the ticks that are drinking the zebra’s blood. The bird gets
food. The zebra gets its ticks taken away. In some of these cases, one animal could not live without the other.
We use the word “symbiotic”for all of these kinds of relationships. Sometimes it’s good for one and bad for
the other. Sometimes it’s just good for one. Sometimes it’s even good for both. So, it is nice to know that there are
some living things out there that are finding ways to live together. We could pay attention to the animals that do
not always make it on TV.
68.The writer mentioned a TV show about the wild in Paragraph 1 to __________.

How different can cultures be Very! People from different cultures can eat different foods and live in
different kinds of houses. They probably speak different languages and have different beliefs and customs. But
guess what 73 The similarities between cultures connect people and help them communicate.
We sometimes call these means of communication universal languages. 74 And some of them
allow people of wildly different backgrounds to communicate and share emotions and feelings. For example,
some people believe music is a universal language. 75 Experts have learned that, across cultures,
people can notice three common emotions in music: happiness, sadness, and fear.
Music may even be able to bridge the differences not only between people of different cultures but also
between people and other creatures . Music has been known to be a good influence on all kinds of animals.
So what other kinds of languages that everyone can understand might there be 76 Along with
music, dancing seems to be a common interest shared by people allover the world. Do you think you could see a
dance from another culture and make some reasonable guesses about the ideas and emotions behind it Of course,
you could!
Another universal language that you might not have thought of is math! 77 The value of pi (圆周率) is around 3.14159, no matter where you are on Earth!
A. There is some scientific support for this idea.
B.There is no doubt that art is a universal language too. C.If you think about it now, though, it just makes sense. D.They can also be similar in ways you might not expect. E.Some people believe dance is also a universal language.
F.People from different cultures don’t have different opinions on all things.
G Strictly speaking, they’re not languages but ways of sharing thoughts and ideas.
