As the fifth of seven children, I went to the same school as my three elder sisters and a brother. Every year,
each child from Grade 3 join in an old school tradition (传统) —the plant sale in early May, just before Mother’s
Day.
That year I could join in it. I wanted to surprise my mother but I didn’t have any money. I told my elder
sister about it and she gave me some money. When I got to the plant sale, I carefully picked my favorite. I
watched each plant carefully to make sure that I could find the best one. After school, my sister helped me hide
(藏) it in the neighbor’s garden. On Mother’s Day, my mother’s eyes lighted up (亮) because of my gift.
The year I was fifteen when my younger sister was in Grade 3. She told me that she wanted to surprise my
mother. Like my elder sister did for me, I gave her some money. And she bought the same gift and I helped her
hide it in the same place, too. When she gave the gift to our mother, I watched them, feeling so proud and happy.
My mother found me watching and gave me a warm smile (微笑).
I wanted to know how my mother could pretend (假装) to be surprised at the same gift from her sixth child,
but when I watched her eyes, I knew she was not pretending.

Have you ever seen an animals show Recently, many animal activists (活动人士) became very angry after
seeing worrying pictures and videos of an elephant called Molly. They wanted to save her.
Molly is an Asian elephant. She was born in 2016. Everyone liked her and called her Little Princess. But
three years later, she was separated from her mother and was sent to live in another zoo. At her new home, Molly
was trained to perform (表演) for tourists. To save Molly, Internet users joined the project “Save Molly” on some
