Have you ever seen a bird fly into a building Now, a group of students from Shenzhen are working to help
the birds and learn more about this problem.
How did they help
In March, they set up a team to study bird collisions (鸟撞). “Every morning, we walk around buildings with
large glass before 9 a. m. That is the peak (高峰) time for bird activity,” Feng Yongyin, 14, told Teens. If they see a
bird that has hit a building, they will take photos of the bird as well as the area around it. Then, they put the photos
onto an app called Biotracks. Scientists can use the information to do more study.
Making a difference
The students’ careful watching of the birds has also made the school think about moving the basketball court.
That’s because it is an area with many plants and birds.
“Once we found a fallen bird's nest (巢) in the area and put it back. We also set up a camera,” said 14-year-old
Lan Zijia. Using the camera, they saw that many students went into the area to get their balls. “We told the school
about this, and the school has placed a line to protect the plants and birds. We might have to do more things in the
future,” Lan said.

Since March, the team has done 416 investigations (调查), found five bird collisions and saved one bird. “I
feel proud of what we have done and want to keep helping birds and people live together peacefully,” said

A school in England for children with autism (自闭症) is finding a new use for virtual reality (虚拟现实), or
VR headsets. Prior’s Court is a school in Berkshire, southern England. The workers at the school are also using
high technology to learn more about individual students.
The school is using VR to introduce children to situations like visiting a shopping mall. Teachers hope the
technology will help students learn about new places. The children may also learn how to act in different social
situations.
Nuno Guerreiro is a computing teacher at Prior’s Court. He said, “Our children, they have difficulties with
sensory issues (感知问题) so they can find it intractable to go to very busy places. They like what they are
familiar with, so we’re using virtual reality to introduce them in a safe way to the outside world.”
The school is also using software with eye-tracking technology. It looks at how children’s eyes move when
