The graduate student called Junior who ran my audition (looked very young.I felt relaxed
about singing in front of him.I had sung in choirs(合唱团)before.
I needed to find a new choir after moving.I wanted to sing challenging but not too difficult
music since I didn't have much training.The audition seemed to go well.

These days,computers and smartphones can tell us exactly where we are and where we arc
going. But globes(地球仪)have remained popular.Peter Bellerby,a globe maker in London,says this is because globe"tics us to the earth".
Peter's company can make around 600 globes in a year.Making a globe starts with a ball-like

A new study shows that people who use many facial expressions are liked more by others
and can be better at negotiating(谈判) .Facial expressions help us show our feelings and talk to others without using words.
Scientists at Nottingham Trent University in the UK studied over 1,500 conversations
between people.They used a special tool called Facial Action Coding System (FACS)to sec how
people's faces moved when they expressed feelings.This tool helped track (追踪) how different muscles in the face change during conversations.
First,the researchers set up video calls and watched how people reacted (反应) in different situations. They recorded different facial expressions,like when someone is listening carefully,laughing at something funny,feeling embarrassed,or disagreeing with someone.These facial movements helped the researchers understand how people communicate without talking.
Then,the scientists showed 170 people videos of others making different facial expressions.
Some people looked friendly,while others seemed angry or upset.The participants(参与者)were asked to answer how much they liked the people in the videos based on their expressions.
Next,the researchers recorded video calls between 1,456 strangers.They counted how many
different facial movements the people made while talking.They found people made about 70
different facial movements every minute.After the conversations,the people talked about how
much they liked each other.The study found that people who used more facial expressions were
liked more by others.
In some of the video calls,the participants had to negotiate.The people who used more

facial expressions usually got better results.The researchers think this happens because people
who use many facial expressions seem friendlier and easier to understand.This helps them
connect with others more easily.
Bridget Waller,the leader of the study,said this might explain why humans have more facial
expressions than other animals.
