I have the success today because I always had to work for what I wanted. I grew up accustomed to risks and disappointments, so I was used to moving forward, no matter what.In 2008, I went to Los Angeles where I tried to get hired as an agent, an analyst and a financial broker. Unfortunately, all these doors slammed in my face. The world’s economy was in a bad state, so I knew I would have to do a little spinning of my own.Youth involves a certain innocence but also perseverance. The word “can’t” wasn’t in my vocabulary. I partnered with a friend buying distressed multifamily properties around Houston. Even though we were enthusiastic and backed with start-up sums, I didn’t make a deal work. My friend moved on to other projects. Alone, I put all my money into the next real-estate project. I put the time in, I dreamed it, but once again the deal fell through. Two months later, though, the deal came back around. That was when the path opened, luck changed, and I was ready to form my own company. I haven’t looked back. Only ahead.I’m now able to give back to communities and causes. I donate about $500,000 a year, much of that going to research to cure rare diseases. We also support a lot of services for disadvantaged children in Houston and other places.I have always been someone who can see the big picture and have never been distracted by things that get in the way. There are lessons to be learned, and the biggest of those is to keep going. You may have to change the path, but always keep that vision in front of you.24.Which of the following about the author is true A.He changed jobs several times while in Los Angeles.B.He often encountered difficulties in the process of growing up.C.He started his own company together with a friend.D.He donated a lot of money to improve his company’s image.25.By saying “do a little spinning of my own” in the second paragraph, the author probably means he would ______.A.look for a part-time job independentlyB.make his contributions to the economyC.give in to the disappointing realityD.be self-employed to develop his career26.Which quality of the author is not shown in the passage A.Perseverance. B.Optimism.C.Innocence. D.Kindness.27.Which one is probably the best title of the passage A.Saying No to “Turning Back”B.Tips for a Successful BusinessC.Jumping over Economic DownturnsD.Giving back to others mattersHow far back does your family tree go A hundred years A thousand years What about 6 to 7 million years An ancient skull found in Africa suggests that the human family might be that old.Discovered in 2001 in the desert of Chad, the skull was nicknamed Toumai by scientists. Toumai is a rare find. The skull is nearly complete; it even includes a few teeth. The Toumai skull is estimated to be between 6 and 7 million years old. Scientists are debating whether the skull is linked to humans. The finding is not without controversy. Some scientists think that Toumai is the oldest known hominid (原始人类) ever found. Others say Toumai is an ape (猿).Most hominids that scientists are aware of lived millions of years after Toumai. The most famous one is called Lucy. She lived in Ethiopia about 3.5 million years ago. While Lucy’s face looked like the face of a chimpanzee, Toumai’s skull has both human and ape-like features.Because Toumai’s skull looks different from other hominid skulls, some scientists think Toumai represents a whole new species. Toumai’s official name is Sahelanthropus tchadensis.Scientists were surprised to find a human-like face on a skull as old as Toumai’s. They thought hominids turned into humans step by step over time. Scientists mark those changes on a timeline, starting with a chimpanzee - like ancestor and ending with modern humans. Toumai’s human-like face and chimp - sized brain suggest that the development of hominids was not so simple. There may not be a direct line leading from Toumai to Lucy to us. Instead, the timeline might be similar to a tree with lots of branches. Different species in different places could have evolved human-like features at different time.Scientists aren’t sure where exactly Toumai belongs on our family tree. Tournai could be like a great - great - grandfather — or just a distant cousin. Toumai could also be one of many types of hominids who wandered Earth millions of years ago.28.What can we learn about Toumai skull A.It is the oldest ape-like skull. B.It is about 3.5 million years old.C.It was named by a historian from Africa. D.It was hardly damaged before being discovered.29.What does the underlined word “controversy” in paragraph 3 mean A.Argument. B.Surprise C.Hardship D.Unhappiness30.What do the scientists conclude from Toumai’s human-like face in paragraph 6 A.Hominids turned into humans in a simple way.B.Toumai may belong to the same species as Lucy.C.The development of hominids may not be a direct line .D.It confirmed the evolution from Toumai to Lucy to human.31.What is the main idea of the text A.The origin of human being. B.The introduction of Toumai.C.The study of human family tree. D.The research on different hominids.People don’t like new things. It is not any different in health care. It took plenty of time until the stethoscope (听诊器), the symbol of health care was accepted by the medical community back in the 19th century. The instrument was invented by a French physician, who published its description in 1819, but it took several decades until doctors actually started using it.I don’t expect any difference with artificial intelligence (AI). After many of my talks, physician colleagues ask me whether AI might replace them in their jobs and whether it can eventually become better at identifying the exact cause of an illness. Both will happen but not the way they imagine it. Huge waves are coming to health care. While some of physicians’ tasks will be taken over by AI, they will deal with patients with real care and more patience. Doctors will not have to struggle with being up-to-date in medical research, with administrative tasks, with consultation or making notes. They do not have to have a headache about how to choose the best treatment. What even the most learned professors know cannot match cognitive (认知的) computers. As the amount of information they accumulate grows, the assistance of computing solutions in medical decisions is approaching. AI will help doctors on the personal level as well as hospitals and other medical institutions on the structural level. On the institutional level, the most obvious use of AI will be data management. It could also analyze entire health care systems quickly and easily.AI will gradually appear in more and more hospitals and get through the initial stage very quickly. Although it is coming, it will need the medical community’s understanding, initiative (主动性) and drive for a better health care in order to work its best. If we introduced AI everywhere from Bolivia to Harvard, health care would not change a bit. There are many reasons for it but everyone in health care should play their part to improve those elements.32.Why does the author refer to the stethoscope A.To show it has many limitations.B.To imply it will give way to AI.C.To explain it is widely used in treating disease.D.To illustrate people refuse to accept new things.33.How will AI influence physicians A.They needn’t do medical research.B.They’ll spare more time for patients.C.They’ll have difficulty with treatments.D.They’re likely to lose their jobs to AI.34.What does the author intend to convey in Paragraph 3 A.AI will face uncertainties in the future.B.Cognitive computers do better than man.C.Existing health care has its disadvantages.D.AI will open a new dimension for health care.35.What will the following paragraph(s) probably talk about A.When health care will be improved.B.How people can promote the change.C.What benefits AI will bring about.D.How AI will transform health care.Ugh! You swear you had your keys a second ago, and now they’ re just gone! Before you panic, take a deep breath. 36 . Losing things is a part of life, but finding them doesn’t have to be a nerve-wracking rush. In this article, we’ll teach you where you can look and how you can retrace your steps to find lost objects.Identify what makes your missing object stand out in its environment. It might be its size, color, texture or shape. 37 It will make the process faster and more efficient. Instead of looking at everything in a space, this approach helps you focus your attention only on objects with that distinction.Look in places where you’ve lost this item before. Do you tend to lose your keys or student cards often If so, it may have ended up in a similar place as before. Think about where your common lost objects tend to be lost. For example, maybe you have a habit of leaving your keys in the lock or your bag in the car. 38Try looking at the room from a new angle. If you’ve retraced your steps, gone through all the motions, and still haven’t found anything, change your perspective. Crawl instead of walking down the hall. 39 Seeing things from a different point of view can help you notice details you may have missed before.40 Scattered and crowded areas make it easier to lose objects, as things can fall under other things or get buried beneath piles. Regularly clean and tidy up living spaces, so you won’t have to spend more time looking for things later on.A.Or sit where you were standing.B.Then search based on that unique feature.C.Look in the messiest areas of your living space.D.Everyone misplaces things every now and again.E.Check these places before extending your search.F.The best thing you can do to avoid losing things is be organized.G.Thinking about the last time you saw it helps you retrace your steps.三、完形填空An informally dressed girl carrying a professional 41 walks across campus. Later when I was getting older, on my way to school, there was an instrument shop that I passed by almost every day. When I saw through the window, in the corner of the shop stood a nice piano which would always attract my eyes so deeply that I even forgot everything around me.To my sadness, my family was truly struggling. In that period, my mother was laid off from her position and my father was only a clerk in a company. It was just a matter of getting by on a low income, not to mention buying me an expensive piano though they knew I was eager to play that piano so much. The increasing wrinkles in my father’s face even stopped me from having this thought. Then one day after school, I went as usual to the shop window to look at the piano. However, the piano had gone! It was a big surprise. Someone had purchased the piano that I would stare at almost every day! I should not have been surprised as others had the right to buy it, if they could afford to. However, at the thought of not being able to see that piano any more, tears filled my eyes.Disappointed and helpless, I wandered aimlessly up and down the street. I felt as though something had been stolen in my heart. After what seemed a year, I returned home, dragging my heavy legs. Hardly had I just gone into the house when my mother called my name. Brushing away my tears, I followed the sound of her voice into the dining-room.注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。I couldn’t imagine what was happening in front of me.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Then the door opened and my father appeared, with a big smile on his wrinkled face.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________参考答案1.【答案】B【听力材料】W: Your story is fantastic, Joe, but the spelling is bad. I’ve been asked to explain to you in simple terms what the world is facing in the current climate emergency. I’ll explain the crises under five headings, each with a brief explanation. Firstly, drought. As temperature rises, the land dries up. Farmers have to face increasing problems of growing crops. This may cause shortages of food and drinking water. Then, flooding. Coastal flooding happens when winds from a storm push water from the ocean onto land. A flash flood is caused by dam breaks or heavy rain. Urban flooding specifically occurs when rainfall damages the local drainage system. Thirdly, the rising sea level. Melted water from the poles is expected to cause a rise in sea level, which will endanger the world’s coastal cities. In addition, coral reefs will die, and many ocean life forms will disappear. Fourthly, animal extinction. Over the past thirty years, the Antarctic penguin population has shrunk by two thirds. Up north, polar bears are dying because their habitat, sea ice, is becoming thinner and thinner. Biologist Dr. Ian Stirling fears that polar bears are facing certain extinction. And lastly, hurricanes. Hurricanes are getting stronger and more frequent because warm air rises rapidly. According to the weather expert James Elsner of Florida State University, storms have been fierce since 1981.【听力材料】Good morning, everyone.
