Guo, a master of sancai art, has a deep-seated love for it. He started his artistic journey in 1986 with a sancai painting for his graduation project, winning praise and encouragement. Over the past 40 years, he’s created many great artworks shown at home and abroad. But he wanted more people to learn about sancai art.

Now, the village attracts over 100,000 visitors yearly, benefiting nearby areas. Guo also focuses on village children’s aesthetic (美学的) education. He donates art tools, gives away money, and organizes art activities. Artists create works, which are sold to provide money for art education. As of now, 50 artists have created 813 works in the activities, donating over 2 million yuan ($275,528) through sales. More researchers are turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor the environment and support endangered creatures.
Creatures are disappearing at a speed thousands of times faster than that millions of years ago, with one million creatures endangered. The United Nations set a goal in 2020 to safeguard at least 30% of Earth’s land and oceans by the end of 2030. Al is “imperfect” but could make important discoveries faster and earlier, says Nicolas Miailhe, founder of The Future Society, an organization that aims to better manage AI. “We need skilled humans to design AI models and check and collect data (数据).”
A type of AI model called Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) has been developed to recognize bird sounds. The CNN is able to pick out 75 kinds of the birds the researchers have. “Our results prove that AI is ready for recognizing creatures in the wild from sound,” says Muller, the team leader.
Besides monitoring creatures in real time, AI can be used to model the influences of human activities on the environment and rebuild historical changes. Researchers have used Al to create pictures or models to make people better understand and see how a century’s environmental pollution in a river has led to creature loss.
Although it is clear that human activities have resulted in creature loss in rivers and lakes, little is found about which activities have the greatest influence. “AI will do soon,” says Luisa Orsini, a researcher from the University of Birmingham.
43. What can we infer from Nicolas Miailhe’s words
A. Al can replace humans. B. Humans totally depend on AI.
C. There’s nothing to better AI. D. AI is helpful for human’s work.

C. To compare two AIs in the team. D. To decide which models are preferred.
45. What does the underlined word “model” mean
A. Produce. B. Represent. C. Control. D. Protect.
46. What will researchers like Luisa use AI to do in environmental protection

C. Monitor researchers to create universities. D. Safeguard creatures in rivers and lakes.

In China, weight management has become a national focus. Data shows that 19% of children aged 6–17 and 10% of kids under 6 are overweight. Half of Chinese adults also face weight-related health risks. To address this growing problem, hospitals across the country are taking actions.
Peking University People’s Hospital leads the way with a special medical team. Doctors create custom plans including diet advice, exercise, and medical treatments. For example, patients might receive cooking classes to learn healthy diets or get guidance on daily walking exercise.
A key activity is the health-focused weight loss camp. Here, patients have health checks to see body fat and fitness levels. Doctors then design special plans that include balanced meal ideas and exercise goals. Educational meetings teach the importance of vegetables, water intake, and daily physical activity. The camp pays attention to teamwork. Patients form small groups to exercise together and share healthy advice. One patient shared, “My team helps me—they remind me to drink water and try new fruits!”
Doctors stress that lasting weight management requires lifestyle changes, not quick fixes. The goal is to help patients develop habits like family walks after dinner or choosing milk over drinks. As one doctor explains, “Healthy living is a lifelong journey, not a sprint (短跑).”

In a bright study, there was a tidy desk. On the desk lay a pencil and an eraser. Both were great helpers for the little owner when studying. However, one day, they argued over who was more important.
“I’m the best!” The pencil stood up straight and shouted. “The little owner can’t do without me for writing and drawing. Without me nothing could be done!”
Hearing this, the eraser shouted with anger, “Humph! You make mistakes every time and mess up the exercise book. If it weren’t for me, the little owner’s homework would be in a terrible mess. How could he get praised by the teacher ”
The pencil turned red with anger and shouted, “You’re nothing but a cleaner. What’s the use of you without my creation!” The eraser refused to give in and replied, “What’s the point of your creation if I don’t correct your mistakes ”
Their argument became more and more heated, and neither was willing to back down. Just then, the little owner walked into the study.
