一、阅读理解:本大题共16小题,共32分。
A
Mary has always been one of the best students in her class. She often says to herself: "If I try a bit harder, I can improve still more." Once again, her grades top the list when she enters high school. But then she begins to worry: "How can I keep this up What if I get a bad grade What would others think How can I look myself in the mirror if I'm not perfect "
Mary is an example of a high-achieving student whose outstanding performance in school has made her a perfectionist. Perfectionists often have very high standards and are overly critical (批评的) of themselves if they fall short of those standards.
A study among students aged 12 to 19 shows that high academic (学业的) achievement is a common reason for the development of perfectionism. It has long been believed that perfectionism leads to better performance. In this view, perfectionism has a bright side because it drives students to perform better and better. But the new study questions this. Actually, it supports the opposite idea — high performance leads to increases in perfectionism. That is, it's not perfectionism that makes students better at what they do, but the other way around. Continuous positive feedback (反馈) seems to push students to work harder for more and,as they realize they can reach their high goals, they raise their standards even higher.
It should also be noted that research generally points to the benefits of high academic success. However, this new study once again challenges that idea. Academic success may come with certain costs. Students may come to see it as both a responsibility and a burden (负担), believing that they need to keep this perfect image that has already been formed. So, students who have achieved academic success are likely to suffer from the fear of making mistakes, performing poorly in exams and losing the respect of others. If they do so, they've fallen into the trap (陷阱) of perfectionism.
There are many top students like Mary, who are used to getting the best grades. They have developed a perfectionistic mindset, thinking their lives would be destroyed if they ever failed. It's very important that these students should learn not only how to achieve academic success, but also how to deal with that success without falling into the trap of perfectionism.

We learn many things at school, but most of us don't learn how to make the most of the time we have. However, reaching a school-life balance (平衡) is one of the most important things for students like you to understand.
As many of you hurriedly do your best to earn (获得) as many volunteer hours or work experience as possible, do sports and other activities outside the classroom, it's hard not to let those things impact (影响) your grades.
Let me introduce you to a way I call "Value-Based Time Blocking". The most important thing is to discover what your core (核心) values are and make sure that your timetable shows that. The key isn't to spend most of your time on what you personally value as most important — instead, think how much time you need to spend in each area of your life to keep a school-life balance.
Here's an example: Let's say that you need volunteer experience in a field. Try not to start the volunteer work too quickly without thinking about whether you enjoy the experience or not, think about how often and for how long you want to be volunteering. You may realize that volunteering a few hours once a week is enough for you to get the experience you need, and a few hours' work will not impact your grades. To get started, write down as many of your personal values onto a piece of paper as you can. Once you have at least 20, underline your top 5. Next, think about all the things you would like to finish. In comparing what you'd like to do and your top 5 values, scratch out (划掉) anything that doesn't go with most of these values. Finally, think about how much time you want to spend on each task as it connects to your values.
How we use our time is a choice. You don't have to do all the things, especially not all at once. You can choose to do only a few things. If you make the decision to try your best and to enjoy the time you spend on them, you can still get competitive grades and have a satisfying life outside the classroom, but it has to be a choice.
5.According to "Value-Based Time Blocking", students should ________.
A. do the activities that they would like to do
B. decide how much time to spend in each area of life
C. discover in what area they spend most of their time
D. spend most of their time on what they personally value most
6.What can we learn from the passage
A. Students are not clear about what their core values are.
B. Students need to find the connection between school and life.
C. Students should spend time on what connects with their values.
D. Students need little volunteer experience when they are at school.
7.What's the writer's main purpose in writing this passage
A. To suggest a way of finding a school-life balance.
B. To tell the importance of reaching a school-life balance.
C. To explain why students enjoy life outside the classroom.
D. To show how activities outside the classroom impact grades.
C
We all have trouble, and often make mistakes. However, many of us find it hard to admit (承认) them to others. So most of us would keep the problems to ourselves. We believe that our trouble and mistakes show our weakness, and we are afraid to let others see us as not good enough.
The good news is that our worries about the negative evaluations (负面评价) from others may not seem as serious as we imagine. A research suggested that we saw our act of showing weakness more negatively than others did, and researchers called this the "beautiful mess effect (效应)". In other words, we may not be such a mess as we think.
This effect can stop us from sharing our true feelings and needs, which can actually have many advantages. For example, studies show that sharing personal information about oneself may help build closeness and trust, while saying sorry sincerely could repair a fractured relationship.
Therefore, researchers wanted to know how we could get over the "beautiful mess effect". Their new experiments suggest that being self-compassionate (自我同情) can be very helpful when we want to find beauty in the mess of our own weakness.
In the study, researchers invited 340 university students to take part in four experiments. In one of them, students were asked to imagine themselves or another person admitting to their boss that they'd made a huge mistake on a project. Then, students needed to evaluate this act: Did they see it as an act of showing one's courage or weakness Finally, researchers evaluated how self-compassionate the students were.
The study showed that students with low self-compassion evaluated their own act more negatively than when they imagined others admitting the same mistake. Highly self-compassionate students, on the other hand, were not much influenced by the "beautiful mess effect". In other words, self-compassion helps us evaluate our act of showing weakness more fairly, stopping us from being too hard on ourselves.
Luckily, our level of self-compassion is not fixed and can be raised if we want to. With a kind and caring attitude towards ourselves, we can become more comfortable with showing our weakness. This practice, in turn, can improve our relationships.
8.Why do people keep their problems to themselves according to the passage?
A. To make as few mistakes as possible.
B. To protect their personal information.
C. To stay away from negative evaluations.
D. To build nice relationships with others.
9.The word "fractured" in Paragraph 3 probably means "____".
A. beautiful B. possible C. healthy D. broken

A. we have more advantages than we think
B. others don't think we are a mess as we do
C. it's easy to share our weakness with others
D. we can't get over the "beautiful mess effect"
11.What is the writer's main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To discuss some ways to get over weakness.
B. To encourage people to be self-compassionate.
C. To invite people to share their worries every day.
D. To introduce the risks of the "beautiful mess effect".

Among all the books I have read, my favorite is Zheng Yuanjie's fairy tales, Shuke and Beita. The roles in his fairy tales are so funny. Sometimes, I think they are around me. They are my classmates or my friends. Therefore, these stories are also my own stories. And, his books also teach me to be a good kid. In my opinions, we can get knowledge through reading. ①It can not only open up our eyes, but also make us cleverer and happier. ②The more we read, the more we will learn, and the brighter our future will be.
