17.food waste/wasting food 18.931/nine hundred and thirty one 19.at home/in home 20.
keeping food/storing food 21.action/efforts/work
Will you eat everything in your lunch box today If not, what will you do with the leftover food Save it
for another meal or throw it away
According to a report by the United Nations, 17 percent of all the food made around the world is wasted
each year. That’s about 931 million tons. 61 percent of the waste happens in homes, 26 percent in food services
such as restaurants and coffee shops, and 13 percent in stores.
The food waste happening in homes alone is 74kg for each person each year. And it happens not just in
rich countries like America, the UK and Australia. Sometimes food is also wasted in poor countries because they
don’t have good ways of keeping food fresh. People in richer countries usually eat out more. It means food waste
is simply changed from homes to restaurants.
The UN is working on a way to find where and how food is exactly being wasted. It’s the key to finding
ways to deal with the growing problem. Food is too important to waste.

when her mother left their hometown with her and her sisters during the Second Sudanese Civil War. They had

Likiso f nally returned in 2015 only to find that her hometown was already part of a new country, South
Sudan (南苏丹). Today, 31-year-old Likiso is a host on Radio Miraya. Miraya is the biggest network in South
Sudan by far, which means a lot of people depend on it for reliable information. What’s more, Miraya has worked
hard to push tor peace in the area. “Radio was the only source (来源) of information and happiness that kept my
family going in the refugee camp. My mother would listen to the radio to keep up with what was happening back
home. It is this experience that made me want to become a radio host,” Likiso recalled.
Recently a sad story shocked her country. A child was killed and her body was found in a toilet. “If that is
not difficult to report, then I don’t know what is,” Likiso said. ▲ For example, a young man decided to return
home from the refugee camp he was living in to help homeless women. He built houses for them using unused
water bottles. “At the time of my interview with him, he had already managed to take 10 women and their
children off the streets,” Likiso added.
In South Sudan, the radio has been seen as an important tool for providing information for hard-to-reach
communities. It not only provides chances for local women and young people to learn about and take part in

second. How do they fly Most birds move their wings up and down. But hummingbirds’ wings
move backward and forward. So they can fly to the front and even to the back. But flying makes
them tired so they have to eat almost every ten minutes.
Koalas are one of the longest-sleeping animals in the world. They spend
most of the lifetime sleeping. Their sharp claws help them not fall off trees when sleeping.
Koalas’ food is special. They only eat eucalyptus leaves which are highly toxic. If other animals
eat them, they will die. Luckily, their strong stomachs can break down the toxic things! A koala
can eat a large amount of these leaves each day.

Every year on March 14, mathematicians, like Chen Jingrun and Gauss and math lovers around the world

57.easily 58.starts 59.never 60.were 61.further 62.why 63.wasting 64.
impossible 65.like 66.surprises
根据“The idea itself is as easy as pie.”
never。
故填 were。
For 900 years after him, nobody could calculate
In fact, we hardly need more than 15 decimal places
of pi.”
结合“but it teaches us nothing is”和备选词汇可知形容词 possible 的反义词“impossible 不可能的”符合语境,
故填 impossible。

“be like”表示“像”,故填 like。
And we’ll surely face many
problems, but many…are waiting for us”可知是指很多惊喜也正等着我们。“many”后应接可数名词复数,
“surprise 惊喜”符合语境,再变成复数,故填 surprises。

Food safety is important, and it doesn’t end at our door. The fridge may be a perfect choice for keeping
food safe and fresh, but it is not a magic box to keep all kinds of food. 67
The temperature in the fresh-keeping area can be different from shelf to shelf (搁板). 68 The
higher the shelf is, the higher the temperature will be. If you store it on the right shelf, you can get the best out of
your food. Try to put ready-to-eat food like burgers, pizza or cream cakes on top shelves. The middle shelves are
for cheese, yogurt and eggs. 69 They can be used to store raw (生的) meat and seafood. Some fridges
have a freezer for keeping these things, so use it if you have one.
The fridge can stop the bacteria (细 菌 ) from growing fast. Bacteria can grow quickly in temperatures
between 5℃and 60℃. If you want to get the most out of your food, the temperature in your fridge needs to be
between 0℃and 5℃. 70
Fruit and vegetables can also be stored at room temperature. Try to keep them in a cool, dark place, away
from direct sunlight. Once they are cut, they should be put in the fridge. 71 Hope you can follow them to
live a healthy life.
A.We need to make use of these different temperatures.
B.The freezer temperature should be below -18℃.
C.It’s necessary to know where to put your fridge.
D.Bottom shelves are the coldest part of the fridge.

68.根据上文“The temperature in the fresh-keeping area can be different from shelf to shelf (搁板).”和下文“Try
to put ready-to-eat food like burgers, pizza or cream cakes on top shelves. The middle shelves are for cheese,
yogurt and eggs.”
Try to put ready-to-eat food like burgers, pizza or cream cakes on top shelves. The middle shelves
are for cheese, yogurt and eggs.”
Bacteria can grow quickly in temperatures between 5℃and 60℃...the temperature in your fridge
needs to be between 0℃and 5℃.”

In China, it’s common to see people on the streets using their fans to beat the heat in summer. However, the

earliest fans was known as Shanhan. It was a bit like today’s umbrella. It was tied (系) to a carriage (马车) to keep
people away from the strong sunshine and rainfall. Later, Shanhan developed into a long-handled fan called
Zhangshan (障扇).
In fact, the fan was not used to help people cool down until the Zhou Dynasty. At that time, fans were
usually made of birds’ feathers and mainly used by the emperors. Later, bamboo fans and cattail-leaf fans (蒲扇)
were invented during the Han Dynasty. Both were most popular among the common people during the Song
Dynasty.
Years later, the folding fan was introduced. As this kind of fan could be easily folded and carried, it soon
became popular. However, the best thing of a folding fan was the pictures on it. If a famous person painted the fan,
it could cost a lot of money. For example, a folding fan painted by Zhang Daqian was sold for $252,000. Qi
Baishi and Xu Beihong were also well known.
Throughout history, Chinese fans have stood the test of time. Today, there are more than 500 kinds of fans
in China, attracting (吸引) a great number of fan lovers both at home and abroad. However, it’s difficult to carry
on our traditional skills of making fans among young people now for many reasons. Luckily, Tag Design made a
meaningful try. It developed an app “Folding Fan” which introduces the skills for making traditional folding fans.
With the help of technology, these fan-making skills are surely able to stay alive forever.

Likiso Irene Lasu Silwa has very few memories of her early childhood. She was only a few months old
when her mother left their hometown with her and her sisters during the Second Sudanese Civil War. They had
been living in a refugee camp (难民营) neighboring Uganda ever since.
It not only provides chances for local women and young people to learn about and take part in
community events, but also brings hope to those living in instability (不安定).

Every year on March 14, mathematicians, like Chen Jingrun and Gauss and math lovers around the world
celebrate Pi Day. Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. The idea itself is as easy as pie. Even

Stress Before a Test
Many people experience stress before an exam. Actually, a little nervousness can help you perform your
best. However, when this stress becomes so excessive (过度的) that it really influences performance on an exam,
it is known as test stress.
There are a few causes of test stress.
● Fear of failure. If you care too much about your scores, the pressure car cause test stress.
● Poor testing history. If you have done poorly on tests before, either because you don’t study well enough
or because you are so stressed, you can’t remember the answers easily.
●Unpreparedness. If you don’t work hard enough, this can add to your feeling of stress.
Does exam stress influence your grades If so, I’ll share with you a scientific tip to help overcome it. —
Clear your room and your desk.
Have you heard the saying “A cluttered (杂乱的) desk is a sign of a cluttered mind ” It’s scientifically
correct.
More clutter around your work space makes it more difficult to be able to focus on preparing for the exam.
This is because physical clutter weakens your ability to think. So you need to clear your desk and your room. Do
the following to get organized.
● Reduce as much clutter as you can around your work space. Throw away anything that doesn’t need to
be there, e. g. photos, snacks.
● Use drawers. Store things away in your drawers. The only things you should have on your desk are the
tools and books you need.
● Clean your space. Since you’ve cleared your space, give your desk and room a good clean.
I believe that if you follow my tips, you’ll become a calmer and more successful student.

In China, it’s common to see people on the streets using their fans to beat the heat in summer. However, the
traditional Chinese fan is not just a tool for cooling down, but a symbol of traditional Chinese culture.
The history of Chinese fans goes back to the Shang Dynasty (about 1600 B.C~1046 B.C). One of the
earliest fans was known as Shanhan.
