Situated at 4,700 meters near Mount Everest in Northwest China’s Qinghai province, Yushu houses thousands who harvest caterpillar fungus, a highly valued traditional medicine. Each May and June, numerous pickers brave the tough environment to collect this essential income, often facing a variety of health issues.
Before the establishment of the mobile clinics, ill or injured pickers had to endure a one to two day travel downhill for treatment, resulting in lost income and life-threatening delays in emergencies.
Recognizing this situation, Yushu City People’s Hospital and local authorities partnered with town-level health centers to create mobile clinics that provide medical services directly at major harvesting sites. This initiative aims to modernize healthcare access for remote, economically vital communities involved in fungus harvesting.
This season, over 200 medical professionals from county. township. and village levels formed 26 mobile medical service teams, covering 40 harvesting zones. Each zone has three to five medical personnel offering free medicine and initial treatments. The mobile clinics perform initial screenings and diagnoses, measure blood pressure and test blood sugar levels, ensuring immediate care without long-distance travel.
Tashi, a dedicated doctor in these mobile clinics for over a decade, recalls a 2019 incident when an elderly man fainted while digging caterpillar fungus. The mobile clinic team swiftly transported him to a town ambulance, and he fully recovered in the hospital. “These clinics have been lifesavers for many.” Tashi emphasizes.
The mobile clinics have created a vital health safety net for Yushu’s herdsmen and pickers. By providing essential medical care in one of the world’s most challenging high-altitude environments, these clinics enhance local well-being and support the sustainability of traditional livelihoods. This annual initiative marks a significant step toward improving healthcare accessibility in remote China, ensuring Yushu’s hardworking communities receive the necessary medical attention.
4. What do we know about the caterpillar fungus pickers in Yushu
A. They are in poor health. B. They work as full-time farmers.
C. They mainly live on fungus harvesting. D. They harvest fungus throughout the year.
5. Why are the mobile clinics in Yushu established
A. To provide professional training for local doctors.
B. To increase the income of caterpillar fungus pickers.
C. To research traditional herbal medicine in remote areas.
D. To offer timely medical support to caterpillar fungus pickers.
6. What can be inferred about the mobile clinics
A. They are the result of joint efforts. B. They provide further medical treatment.
C. They have cost a lot to operate and maintain. D. They are staffed by experts from large hospitals.
7. What is the author’s attitude toward the mobile clinics
A. Unclear. B. Doubtful. C. Cautious. D. Appreciative.
Think back to the last time you wrote down a quick note or made a grocery list. Chances are that it wasn’t with pen and paper. Over the past decade, keyboards and screens have quietly replaced handwriting in our daily routines, from classrooms to office meetings. Yet, research shows that putting pen to paper offers cognitive(认知) benefits that digital tools can’t match.
“Statistically most studies on the relationship between handwriting and memory show that people are better at remembering things that they have written down than on a computer,” says Naomi Susan Baron, a professor of linguistics at American University in Washington D. C. From improved memory retention(保留) to enhanced learning outcomes, here’s how maintaining the art of handwriting can significantly impact how we absorb and keep information.
The benefits of writing by hand can partly owe to the engagement of multiple senses in the writing process. “Holding a pen with our fingers, pressing it on a surface, and moving our hands to create letters and words is a complex thinking and movement skill that requires a lot of our attention,” says Mellissa Prunty from Brunel University, who has researched the relationship between handwriting and learning.
“This deeper level of processing, which involves mapping sounds to letter formations, has been shown to support reading and spelling in children,” Prunty continues. The physical act of writing helps strengthen memory and improve learning outcomes, making it an important tool for educational growth.
Adults also benefit from the labor-intensive(劳动密集型) nature of handwriting. A study involving 42 adults learning Arabie found that participants who learned letters by writing them down by hand were quicker to recognize them, had an easier time naming them, and were better at sounding the newly learned letters out compared with people who were asked to learn the new characters by typing or by just looking at them.
“We think that our results can be partly explained by how handwriting activates different pathways to the same concept,” says Robert Wiley, a professor of psychology at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and co-author of the study. “Handwriting can activate more connections across these different aspects compared with typing,” he says.
8. Why is handwriting better for remembering things compared to typing
A. Handwriting is more visually appealing.
B. Handwriting is more fun and enjoyable.
C. Typing is too fast and makes it hard to concentrate.
D. Handwriting engages many senses and requires more attention.
9. What’s a good thing about handwriting for kids according to Mellissa Prunty
A. It helps them to focus better. B. It makes learning more entertaining.
C. It improves their fine movement skills. D. It supports reading and spelling.
10. What’s the main finding of the study involving 42 adults learning Arabic
A. Adults preferred typing to handwriting.
B. Handwriting helped adults to learn Arabic faster.
C. Typing new characters was the best way to learn.
D. Handwriting did not improve memory retention.
11. What would be the best title for the text
A. The Benefits of Handwriting.
B. The Decline of Handwriting.
C. How to Improve Memory through Handwriting.
D. The Difference Between Handwriting and Typing.
Virtually all living things have some way of getting from here to there. Animals may walk, swim, or fly. Plants and their seeds drift (飘) on wind or water or are carried by animals. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that, in time, all species might spread to every place on Earth where favorable conditions occur. Indeed, there are some cosmopolitan species. A good example is the housefly, found almost everywhere on Earth. However, such broad distribution (分布) is the rare exception. Just as wire fences prevent cattle from leaving their grassland, biological barriers prevent the spread of many species.
What forms barriers depends on the species and its method of spread. Some are physical barriers, like waters or mountains for the land animals, and strong currents for aquatic (水生) creatures. Some barriers involve competition with other species. Most places that are suitable for the growth of a newcomer, say a dandelion seedling (蒲公英幼苗), are already occupied by other types of plants that are well adapted to the area. Facing such fierce competition, the chances of survival for the immigrant are slim.
There are also some types of natural pathways through which organisms can overcome barriers. One type is called a corridor. It consists of a single type of habitat that passes through various other types of habitat. North America’s Rocky Mountains is an example. Various types of trees, such as the Engelmann spruce, can be found not only at the northern end of the corridor in Alaska but also at higher altitude along the entire length of this corridor.
Another type of natural pathway is known as a filter route. It consists of a series of habitats that are different from one another but are similar enough to permit organisms to gradually adapt to new conditions as they spread from habitat to habitat. The greatest difference between a corridor and a filter route is that a corridor consists of one type of habitat, while a filter consists of several similar types.
12. What does the underlined word “cosmopolitan” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Worldwide. B. Ordinary. C. Famous. D. Ancient.
13. How does the author explain biological barriers in paragraph 1
A. By providing examples of them.
B. By describing the forming process of them.
C. By comparing them with a familiar man-made barrier.
D. By explaining how houseflies have been affected by them.
14. What limits the chances of survival for dandelion seedlings
A. The danger of strong winds. B. The lack of a suitable habitat.
C. Inadaptation to the new areas. D. Competition with native species.
15. What is the essential difference between a corridor and a filter route
A. The number of habitat categories. B. The speed to adapt to new conditions.
C. The distance from one end to the other. D. The species spread through the routes.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面短文,根据其内容和段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Back in the early 1980s, the idea of home computers was catching on. I wasn’t keen on getting one. Somehow, I evolved and have owned several computers over the years. Some days, I loved my computer, but more often than not, I hated it. I didn’t grow up with them, and they were a challenge to my mental health. Dealing with modern technology was my introduction to stress, and I know who to blame: my children.
They weren’t satisfied that their dad and I finally bought a computer and learned to send e-mails. We were quite happy with that, but next came a cellphone. Then just talking on the phone was not acceptable; they insisted we learn to text as well. We couldn’t get a break.
I remember well the night that Facebook became a household word around here. Those kids of ours were determined to set up a joint account for us. It took some convincing. We felt no guilt for grating on (激怒) their nerves considering the drama they’d sometimes created for us during their teenage years. A little payback wouldn’t hurt those two.
More recently, my husband and I were forced into getting rid of our flip phones (翻盖手机) and getting smartphones. I will admit that I progressed into appreciating mine. I liked speaking to Siri and finding out what I needed to know in an instant. I enjoyed having Internet access everywhere I went. I felt a sense of accomplishment; my husband — not so much. To this day, he would happily take back his flip phone.
Last Christmas, our children surprised us with yet another popular form of technology — Alexa. The girls took our smartphones in hand and got us programmed. Before we fully understood what was happening, we could tell Alexa to turn our lamp on or off, and she would. To be honest, we were a bit annoyed at having to learn how to use yet another device, but we decided to keep it. We mastered turning the lamp on and off, and once again I got the hang of it sooner than my husband did. I became his Alexa coach.
(注:ALexa是亚马逊公司推出的智能语音助手,类似“小爱同学”、“小度”等。)
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
One night, Alexa did not turn on the lamp when I gave the command (指令).

第四部分 写作(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(满分15分)
【46题答案】
【答案】Good morning, dear friends. I’d like to take this opportunity to talk about how I learn English on the Internet.
First, there are a lot of free resources related to English on the Internet, so I learn English by reading books or news, listening to postcodes and by watching streaming videos of TV and film. Besides, the Internet gives me the chance to communicate in real-time with native speakers using instant messaging, video calling and online forums, which improves my spoken and written English.
Based on my own experience, learning English online is really a great way for English learners. But I have to remind that not everything on the Internet is right and we should learn to identify the wrong information.
第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】One night, Alexa did not turn on the lamp when I gave the command (指令). I tried to say “Turn on the light” to it countless times, but Alexa didn’t work. “New technologies are always unreliable.” my husband complained. I searched the Internet and immediately found the reason why Alex couldn’t work. I just needed to tell Alex to set the light color to white or whatever color I wanted, and then it would turn on the light. Then Alex turned on the light itself.
We should thank our children and grandchildren for teaching us to use technology. It was they that taught us to how to surf the Internet so that I could find a solution online by myself.
