Gansu is in the northwest of China. It has about 1. 19 million hectares(公顷)of wetlands. These wetlands are great places for binds that fly from one place to another.
The Gahai-Zecha National Nature Reserve is on the northeast side of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. Many birds fly here every June and November. They come to have babies and slay for the winter. The reserve made40 nests by hand and put infrared cameras(红外摄像机) on the central island. These nests and cameras are used a lot, about 99%. This reserve is very important for black-necked cranes(黑颈鹤). In 2024, for the first time, two black-necked cranes were marked to help scientists know where the cranes live and where they go.
In Zhangye, the Heihe Wetland National Nature Reserve is a special place for black storks (黑鹳). These storks are in danger, In 2024, 675 black storks were seen here. The reserve did many things to look after and protect the storks, They even created areas for the storks to find food.
These protection jobs make more people like watching birds, Gao Feng, a 63-year-old man , loves watching birds and taking photos. In the past four years, he has taken more than 100 ,000 pictures of about 300 kinds of birds, He took pictures in Gansu's wetlands, forests and waters. He likes to take pictures of water birds. Ma Jun, a 30-year-old wheelchair user from Ningxia, China, became the youngest winner of the Junma Awards for Ethnic Literature(少数民族文学创作骏马奖).
Born with SMA, a terrible disease, doctors once said he wouldn't live beyond the age of 20. As a child,he could only sit alone to watch other children play.
