Tom was a shy boy who rarely spoke in class. His hands would sweat(出汗) whenever the teacher called his name, and his voice would tremble (颤抖)when he had to answer questions. He preferred to sit at the back of the classroom, hoping no one would notice him.
One day, his English teacher, Mrs. Johnson, announced that each student would need to give a three-minute presentation about their favorite book. When Tom heard this, his heart pounded so loudly he was sure everyone could hear it. As the day approached, he couldn't sleep well, worrying about standing in front of the class.
On presentation day, Tom's turn came. He walked slowly to the front, his legs feeling like jelly. Looking at his classmates' expectant faces, he whispered, "I...I can't do this..." His voice was hardly heard by anyone.
To his surprise, his best friend Jack immediately stood up and said loudly, "Yes, you can, Tom! We believe in you!" Other classmates joined in, clapping and cheering, "Come on, Tom! You've got this!" Their voices filled the classroom with warmth.
Feeling their support, Tom took a deep breath. He remembered how he'd practiced his presentation about Harry Potter ten times in front of his bedroom mirror. Gathering courage, he began speaking. At first his voice shook, but as he continued, it grew stronger. By the end, he was even making eye contact and smiling.
When he finished, the class cheered for him. Mrs. Johnson beamed with pride. "Tom," she said, "that was excellent! You've shown us all that courage isn't about not being afraid - it's about facing your fears."
After class, Jack gave Tom a high-five. "See I told you you could do it!" Tom grinned, realizing something important. That night, he wrote in his journal: "Today I learned that when people believe in you, it helps you believe in yourself. And that makes all the difference."

Dear Mr.Smith,
I’m Li Hua, a member of this study trip, writing to apply to be the team leader.
Firstly, I have strong leadership experience. Last year, I successfully organized a school cultural exchange event with over 50 participants. This taught me how to communicate clearly and solve problems efficiently. Secondly, I am passionate about British culture. I have read books about UK history and practiced English daily, which will help me bridge language barriers during the trip.
Besides, I have some advice for this trip. It’s better for us to live in local families to experience authentic British lifestyles and improve language skills through daily conversations. Also, we can visit some places of interest such as the Tower of London and Stonehenge, where we can learn history through guided tours. How about visiting the local schools to experience the local education.
I am confident that my organizational skills and creative ideas will make this trip both educational and memorable. Thank you for considering my application.
I’m looking forward to your reply and hope we’ll have a wonderful trip there.
Yours,
Li Hua
