Staying strong during hard times is a beautiful quality (品质) of human beings. The following two poems talk about this quality.

A new desert library is located in the southeast of the Tengger Desert (腾格里沙漠), the fourth largest desert of China. It is in the city of Zhongwei, Ningxia Province. The 24-hour library welcomes book lovers and visitors with its beauty and culture.
Zhongwei was an important place in China in history. To make more people know its culture, people in the city of Zhongwei did a lot for many years. The library is part of the desert culture of Zhongwei.
As Ningxia's first library built in the desert, the new library has three floors and can keep 40,000 books. A few visitors came to visit it. Some people like it for its special shape. “The library is a great success,” Jin Weiqi, a visitor to the library said. When you see it from the sky, the chocolate brown building looks like a boat that is left on the beach.
Others love the special reading experience there. Yang Fang is one of them. The primary school teacher brought her 8-year-old daughter to the library. With stars above their heads at night, they can enjoy reading when listening to the sounds of the wind in the desert.
“Lost Treasure Box (丢失的宝盒)”, the name of the library, shows us part of Zhongwei’s history and culture. “The library has a lot of stories to tell,” said Liu Huiling, a worker of the library. Many important historical events happened there in the history of China. So visiting the library is a good way to learn about local history and culture.

Zuo Wenjun is an artist who was born in 1989 in Ningxia. He was found to have cerebral palsy (脑瘫) as a child. The illness made it hard for him to balance his body. He didn’t learn to walk until he was 8.
One day, Zuo’s parents gave him some chalk to play with. He drew a few squares with his shaking hands, and his dream of painting was born.
Zuo became an art student in junior high school. While training, he tried his best to draw straight lines. However, he often found that he couldn’t control his hands well enough. To make up for this, he practiced a lot and used many pencils a day. His mother spent hours every evening sharpening (削尖) them for him. Zuo later studied art at Ningxia University. After graduation, he continued his studies at the Chinese National Academy of Arts in Beijing.
After many years of study and practice, Zuo has become an excellent painter. “Along the way, I’ve received much love and help. I want to pass that on,” said Zuo. He’s now volunteering at a local studio (工作室). He has worked there for more than 6 years. He teaches painting to people with disabilities. He also helps them sell their artworks. Besides, Zuo has donated over 400,000 yuan from the sales of his paintings. The money has been used to treat children with disabilities.
