Dear Chris,
I am writing to share with you a video I watched in class yesterday. It was a promotional clip showcasing our school's upcoming smart classroom project. The video depicted a futuristic learning environment equipped with numerous advanced technologies, including interactive touchscreens, AI-powered assistants, and eco-friendly systems. Students would be actively engaged in lessons, benefiting from personalized learning experiences.
Watching the video filled me with excitement and anticipation.I can't wait to explore the smart classroom firsthand and experience how it can enhance our learning journey. It's truly amazing to see how technology is revolutionizing education.
Do you have any similar projects in your school I'm looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

On the sidelines, Mrs. Green sat Max down to tend to his wound. As she gently cleaned the dirt and blood from his scraped knees and elbows, Max was more concerned about the misunderstanding, instead of crying about the physical hurt, “Mum, it’s an accident. We were all trying so hard to win the ball. Coach always tells us to see the bigger picture and play as a team. Nobody pushed me.” Mrs. Green froze, her face turning red with embarrassment as she realized the huge mistake she had made. She felt a lump in her throat, filled with regret for her foolish action.
With shame written all over her face, Mrs. Green slowly made her way towards Coach Brown. Taking a deep breath, she gathered up the courage to face him. When she finally stood in front of the coach, she lowered her head and said, “I’m so sorry! I misjudged the situation completely. I should have trusted you and the kids.” Coach Brown smiled kindly, “it’s all right, Mrs. Green. We all make mistakes. But in life, we need to see a bigger picture, just like in this football training.” From then on, Mrs. Green learned that there’s more to what we see at first glance and made sure to get all the facts before jumping to conclusions.

As a child, I was transported to the US. To fit in at school,I kept quiet as I furiously learned how to speak just like the American kids -to say "flashlight"and "trunk", instead of button. Gradually, I sounded just like everyone else. Unfortunately, with the confusing logic of the under-10s, I decided that my parent would feel betrayed if I lost my English accent. Besides, we'd be moving home in a few years. If I sounded American, I'd be the odd one out all over again. So I landed on my genius plan: I'd be Yankee at school and English at home.
All went smoothly until a new friend agreed to come over to play, and I had to face both my English parent and American friend in one room. So I developed the coping techniques I would rely on for the next 5 years, which ranged from not speaking at all to muttering to my friends so that only they could hear; if forced to speak, I would use words that sounded the same in both accents. There hasn't been much research into "bidialectalism", perhaps because it's something we all do: the way you speak defines you.
After moving back to the UK, my parents were pleasantly surprised that I would now speak to them with my friends present. but I was also questioning when and whether to speak, and wondering who was listening. Brené Brown once said that trying to fit in is the opposite of true belonging. She had a point. Later, some American friends were due to visit us. Somehow,I made my decision: enough was enough and I was tired of fitting in. So,cautiously, I used my British voice, and said"jumper" instead of"sweater". No one noticed or mentioned it for the first few days. Until, eventually, during a card game, one friend suddenly looked up,and said"Hey, you sound British now! Go fish." And that was that.
24. What do we know about author's "genius plan"
A.It's a fake commitment to fit in.
B. It's a good way to improve author's English
C. It's an immature decision to appear thoughtful
D. It's a great opportunity to show author's language gift.
25. What does the underlined word"bidialectalism" refer to in the 2nd paragraph
A.The tendency to disguise your own accent.
B. The way that a particular person uses English.
C. The local tongue spoken in a small community.
D.The good knowledge of two forms of the same language.
26. Why did the author stop shifting between British and American English
A. Because the author lacked the sense of belonging.
B. Because the author decided to present him/herself as it is
C. Because the author disagreed with what Brené Brown said.
D. Because the author was fed up with parroting the people around.
27. Which can be the most suitable title of the passage
A.Accent is a double-edged sword!
B. When in Rome, do as Romans do!
C. Clear language depends on clear thinking!
D. Better to be hated for what you're than loved for what you're not!
C
We all know fresh is best when it comes to food. However, most produce at the store went through weeks of travel and covered hundreds of miles before reaching the table. While farmer’s markets are a solid choice to reduce the journey, Babylon Micro-Farm (BMF) shortens it even more.
BMF is an indoor garden system. It can be set up for a family. Additionally, it could serve a larger audience such as a hospital, restaurant or school. The innovative design requires little effort to achieve a reliable weekly supply of fresh greens.
Specifically, it’s a farm that relies on new technology. By connecting through the Cloud, BMF is remotely monitored. Also, there is a convenient app that provides growing data in real time. Because the system is automated, it significantly reduces the amount of water needed to grow plants. Rather than watering rows of soil, the system provides just the right amount to each plant. After harvest, users simply replace the plants with a new pre-seeded pod (容器) to get the next growth cycle started.
Moreover, having a system in the same building where it’s eaten means zero emissions (排放) from transporting plants from soil to salad. In addition, there’s no need for pesticides and other chemicals that pollute traditional farms and the surrounding environment.
BMF employees live out sustainability in their everyday lives. About half of them walk or bike to work. Inside the office, they encourage recycling and waste reduction by limiting garbage cans and avoiding single-use plastic. “We are passionate about reducing waste, carbon and chemicals in our environment,” said a BMF employee.
28. What can be learned about BMF from paragraph 1
A. It guarantees the variety of food. B. It requires day-to-day care.
C. It cuts the farm-to-table distance. D. It relies on farmer’s markets.
29. What information does the convenient app offer
A. Real-time weather changes. B. Current condition of the plants.
C. Chemical pollutants in the soil. D. Availability of pre-seeded pods.
30. What can be concluded about BMF employees
A. They have a great passion for sports.
B. They are devoted to community service.
C. They are fond of sharing daily experiences.
D They have a strong environmental awareness.
31. What does the text mainly talk about
A. BMF’s major strengths. B. BMF’s general management.
C. BMF’s global influence. D. BMF’s technical standards.
D
A star athlete at the college where I work recently stopped by my office. After committing a few unforced errors during a weekend match, she was tom apart by self-criticism. “I can’t stop beating myself up,” she told me. “I’m at peak fitness, and I practice hard. How is this happening ”
Many students I teach, like this athlete, believe that all-nighters in the library and hours on the field should get them exactly where they need to go. When they fall short of what they imagine they should accomplish, they are crushed by self-blame.
We talk often about young adults struggling with failure because their parents have protected them from discomfort. But there is something else at play among the most privileged in particular: a false promise that they can achieve anything if they are willing to work for it.
Psychologists have sourced this phenomenon to a misapplication of “mind set” research, which has found that praising children for effort will increase academic performance. But a recent analysis found that while praising effort over ability may benefit high-risk or economically disadvantaged students, it does not necessarily help everyone.
The cruel, messy reality is that you can do everything in your power and still fail. Instead of allowing our kids to beat themselves up when things don’t go their way, we should all question a culture that has taught them that feeling anything less than overwhelmed means they’re lazy, and that where they go to college matters more than the kind of person they are. It’s suggested that parents and teachers spend time helping students find purpose, or goals they genuinely love to pursue and that make an impact on the world, which may help them gain greater life satisfaction and become more psychologically mature.
The point is not to give our kids a pass on working hard. But we would be wise to remind our kids that life has a way of sucker-punching us when we least expect it. It’s often the people who learn to say “stuff happens” who get up the fastest.
32. Which sort of students does the star athlete belong to
A. Those lacking courage to make self-criticism.
B. Those tired of working all night in the library.
C. Those believing hard work surely pay off.
D. Those overprotected by their parents in life.
33. What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A. Praising effort over ability will surely be beneficial to all kids.
B. The result of the “mindset” research doesn’t apply to all cases.
C Parents should lay more emphasis on their kids’ academic performance.
D. Whether praising kids’ effort over ability does good to kids depends.
34. According to the author, how can parents help the kids overcome barriers in life
A. By choosing where to go to college for them.
B. By pushing them to fight against the cruel reality.
C. By discouraging them from making efforts to study hard.
D By encouraging them to stick to a worthy cause they truly love.
35. What can be inferred from the passage
A. Students should not expect too much from their study.
B. Students with positive attitudes can move on more easily.
C. Students should bear all the failures on their own.
D. Students are sure to succeed if they try their best.

Where Fat Goes When You Lose Weight
The world is obsessed with fad diets and weight loss, yet few of us know how a kilogram of fat actually vanishes off the scales._____36______The problem with this theory is that it violates the law of conservation of matter. Some thought fat turns into muscle, which is impossible, and others assumed it escapes via the colon(结肠) .So if not energy, muscles or the loo, where does fat go
The enlightening facts about fat metabolism (新陈代谢)
The correct answer is that fat is converted to carbon dioxide and water. You breathe out the carbon dioxide and the water mixes into your circulation until it's lost as urine or sweat.
If you lose 10 pounds of fat, precisely 8.4 pounds comes out through your lungs and the remaining 1.6 pounds turns into water.____37_____The only thing in food that makes it to your colon undigested is dietary fibre. Everything else you swallow is absorbed into your bloodstream and organs and, after that, it's not going anywhere until you've vaporized(蒸发)it.
Kilograms in versus kilograms out
_____38_____But energy is a confusing concept, even among health professionals and scientists. The reason we gain or lose weight is much less mysterious if we keep track of all the kilograms, too, not just those calories.
If you put 3.55 kg of food and water into your body, plus 0.6kg of oxygen, then 4.2 kg of stuff needs to come back out, or you'll gain weight. If you're hoping to lose some weight, more than 4.1kg will have to go. An average 75kg person's resting metabolic rate produces about 590 grams of carbon dioxide per day. However, the good news is that you've already breathed out 200 grams of carbon dioxide while you're fast asleep every night.
______39_____
So if fat turns into carbon dioxide, could simply breathing more make you lose weight Unfortunately not. Breathing in and out more than you need to will only make you dizzy, or possibly faint. The only way you can consciously increase the amount of carbon dioxide your body is producing is by moving your muscles.
But here's some more good news. Simply standing up and getting dressed more than doubles your metabolic rate. Going for a walk triples your metabolic rate. Metabolizing 2.8 kg of fat uses 8.1 kg of oxygen and produces 7.8 kg of carbon dioxide plus 3kg of water. What you eat can't change these figures. Therefore, to lose 2.8kg of fat, you have to breathe out 7.8kg of carbon dioxide on top of what you'll produce by vaporizing all your food, no matter what you eat._____40 ____
Keep a balanced diet.
B. Eat less, breathe out more.
C. In other words, nearly all the weight we lose is breathed out.
We all learn that"energy in equals energy out" in high school.
Any diet that supplies less "fuel" than you burn will do the trick.
Even some experts shared this surprising gap in their health literacy.
The most common misconception by far, was that fat is converted to energy.

See a bigger picture
In the busy youth football club, a group of six - or seven -year - old kids were absorbed in an exciting 2-Vs-1 training session. The coach, Mr. Brown, paced along the sidelines, his voice booming, "See a bigger picture, boys! Don't just focus on the ball at your feet. Look around, pass the ball!"
Amidst the energetic gameplay, little Max was attempting to dribble(带球)past his two opponents, Tod and Owen. His eyes were glued to the ball as he dashed across the grassy field under the hot sun. When he made a quick turn, his ankle twisted painfully and his body lost balance. He crashed to the ground with a heavy bang. His knee and elbow scraped(蹭破) against the rough grass, and his hands got dirty. Max frowned in pain.
Stunned for a moment, he sat up. Tod and Owen approached him worriedly, but Max said he was okay. Despite the pain, he got back up, ready to keep playing.
However, his mother, Mrs. Green, who was watching from the stands, thought one of the other boys had pushed Max on purpose. In an instant, she stormed onto the field, her face flushed with anger. "How could you let this happen " she shouted at Coach Brown. "My Max was bullied, and you're just standing there! You're not doing your job properly. This is unacceptable!" The coach was taken aback, trying to explain that it was a normal part of the game, but Mrs. Green was in no mood to listen. Her outburst disrupted the training completely, and the kids had no choice but to go to the sidelines to take a break.
On the sidelines, Mrs. Green quickly sat Max down to tend to his wound. _____________________________________________________________________
With shame written all over her face, Mrs. Green slowly made her way towards Coach Brown._________________________________________________________
