Teaching design
Students’ analysis The target group of this class is senior high school students, who have a certain level of English and can understand simple English articles. The Reading section is based on a website article on the topic of ‘Olympic Games’, which aims to guide students to love sports and understand the spirit of the Olympics. The topic is ‘Olympic Games’. The aim is to guide students to love sports and understand the Olympic spirit, and to inspire them to develop positive values and attitudes with the Olympic motto of ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger’.
Teaching objectives By the end of this section, students would be able to: 1.grasp the general idea of this article by reading the article; 2.summarize the subheadings of each paragraph through the first and last sentences. 3.express their views on the Olympic Spirit through fixed sentence patterns and supported by facts. 4.achieve a deep understanding of the Olympic Games and the Olympic spirit;

Teaching aids PPT, multimedia, cards, paint bushes.
Teaching process
Step 1 Lead in Introducing the class through the teacher leading the students in a gesture dance. Getting students into the classroom more quickly and experiencing the joy of movement.
Step 2 Pre-reading 1.The teacher introduces the topic of the Olympics through pictures. 2.Teacher asks students some general knowledge questions about the Olympics. Introducing topics with pictures is intuitive and allows for better immersion in the classroom.
Step 3 While-reading 1.Read for structure. The teacher guides students to write subheadings through the first and last sentences. 2.Detailed reading Para.1: What is the spirit of Olympic games Paras.2-3: Read Paras.2-3 carefully, then finish the following timeline. Paras.4-5: ① What kind of Olympic spirit do you see in them ② Teacher summarizes Olympic spirit. Para.6: Figure out China’s achievements and fill in the table. 1.Students can better practice their ability to find readings and summarize the main idea of a text. 2.The central meaning of each paragraph is clarified in paragraphs, so that students can focus more on paragraph learning in an effective period of time. 3.Set up interactive games around the theme Olympic Spirit to pave the way for the students' output later on.
Step 4 Post-reading Match the athletes with their achievements in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Watch and think about the Olympic spirit in the athletes, then with the help of sentence patterns to express your opinions with facts. 1.Integration of current events and closer connection to life. 2.Give students something to talk about based on what they have learnt around the Olympic spirit.
Step 5 Summary The strength of a nation lies in the strength of its youth.The strength of a nation lies in the strength of its sports. Step 6 Homework Write a composition on the topic of the spirit of sports based on today’s pleting writing with sentence patterns to consolidate the knowledge from this lesson.
