Plant Hope Under the Sen: A Scientist’s Story
Zhang Peidong from the Ocean University of China has spent the pus 17 years on one thing: planting “grass”. This special grass, known as seagrass, grow in the ocean. It helps clean the air by taking in carbon dioxide(二氧化碳)and provides food for many sea animals.
Staring in 2008, Zhang’s team studied how seagrass grow in coastal waters. To help the seagrass grow faster, the team came up with new methods. Every June, they collect young seagrass plants and grow them in pools. By the end of September, they move the young plants lo the ocean floor.
Thanks to their efforts, there is now more seagrass in the ocean. This has made the water cleaner and brought more animals to the area. For Zhang’s team, every tiny plant is a step toward making the sen healthy again. They believe that even small actions can make a big difference for the future of the ocean.
