I walked away from shore and was glad to find a clear spring. Then I cut myself a strong stick to protect myself and climbed a tree. There I slept the first night in my new home.
The morning came clearly. I felt surprisingly energetic after a night in a tree. I went to shore, where I found out that the storm had driven the broken ship from the sandbar (沙洲) . The waves had set it on the rocks within a mile off shore.
I also found the boat that we had struck out in. A fast-flowing inlet (入口) lay between me and the boat. I decided to deal with the broken ship first because it held more useful items (物品) .
The tide (潮汐) crept out (缓缓退去) farther and farther until I could walk upon sand to within a quarter mile of the ship. I realized all of us would have survived the storm if we’d only stayed with the ship.
I cried at the thought of how easily I could be sharing this adventure with a group. But this was no time for tears. I dried my face and took off my clothes so I could swim to the ship.
Once I reached it, I swam around looking for a way to get planks (木板) . I noticed a hanging bit of rope and used it to climb the side. I found the ship’s food was free of water. I filled my mouth with biscuits. Now I only needed a boat to get the food to shore.
I collected boards and bits of sail (钉子). I tied the sails together before keeping them overboard. Then I put the boards together into a raft (木筏) . I laid more aboard across my raft so that anything I put on it would be safe from the water.

What subject do you worry about most at school Many students worry about math. Some students can’t sleep well the day before a math exam. Others may feel very worried during the exam itself. But there might be a way to make the subject less stressful (有压力的).
“For people who worry about math, posture (姿势) makes a big difference,” Erik Peper from San Francisco State University told the Daily Mail. That’s right—sitting up straight can help you do better in math exams.
Scientists tested 125 college students. They asked them to do a math test while sitting in a slumped-over (趴倒的) position, or sitting up straight. After the test, 56 percent of students said the exam was easier to do if they were sitting up straight.
Students who were not worried about taking the math exam did not do better from better posture. But they did find that it was more difficult to do math while slumping over, Science Daily reported.
Good posture isn’t just helpful for taking math exams. Runners, musicians and public speakers can all benefit (获益) from better posture. When you feel stressed out, you can also try to sit up straight or stand tall. It can help you feel more positive and focus (集中) better.

Every year, the Touching China Award recognizes (认可) people who have made significant contributions (贡献) to society through their work and actions. This year, a group of retired (退休的) professionals in China won the award for their efforts in sharing knowledge through short videos.

Wu Yuren, for example, is a retired physics teacher. Now I try to reduce air pollution by riding a bike. Also, I save energy by turning off the lights when leaving a room. Third, I always queue for my turn when waiting for a bus and I give my seat to the elderly. Fourth, I donate my pocket money to the children in poor areas. I’m sure I can be better and better in Grade 9.
