When it comes to ocean, its pollution is becoming more and more serious. World Ocean Day, falling on June 8th, is aimed at raising awareness of ocean conservation.
Ocean plays a key role in our world. Not only does ocean offer us sufficient food, but also it maintains the balance of nature. Thus, it is imperative to protect ocean. First of all, what we can do is to place importance on our daily actions. For example, garbage can’t be thrown into ocean. What’s more, we can also hand out leaflets to call on more people to protect the ocean. The more people are involved, the better the ocean environment is.
All in all, it is high time that we devoted ourselves to protecting ocean. To protect ocean is to protect ourselves.高中学校高一年级期中联考

The least-visited countries in the world
It’s every traveler’s dream—a corner of the planet still undisturbed by tourists. And obviously, such places do exist. The United Nations World Tourism Organization lately reported the four least-visited countries globally.
Liechtenstein
The sixth smallest country in the world is also one of the most undiscovered.
Lying between Austria and Switzerland, Liechtenstein is an outdoor enthusiast’s playground. It’s the only country in the world to be totally in the Alps and a summer destination for hiking and cycling and snow-covered skiing perfection in winter, for those who can afford it.
French Guiana
French Guiana is the least-visited country in South America, with some of the world’s most diverse plant and animal life.
While there is much to attract tourists to the area, not least its miles of jungle, the construction is in need of some attention.
Montserrat
Once a popular holiday spot, this Lesser Antilles island has never quite recovered from a series of natural disasters. Hurricane Hugo in 1989 hit 90 per cent of the island and in 1995 the Soufriere Hills volcano erupted.
These days, its volcano is now actually one of Montserrat’s main attractions, together with its beautiful beaches. Visitors can also go diving in its clear waters.
Comoros
This collection of islands in the Indian Ocean near Madagascar serves as the perfect destination for those who want to get away from everyday city life.
Comoros offers beautiful volcanic scenery, fruitful forests, and remote sleepy towns. There are even some of the best undiscovered reefs just waiting to be explored by divers.
21. Which country is the best choice for snow skiing lovers
A. Montserrat. B. Comoros. C. Liechtenstein. D. French Guiana.
22. What do we know about French Guiana
A. It has got a rich diversity of species. B. Its construction is new and advanced.
C. It is the least-visited country in the world. D. Its least popular attraction is large areas of jungle.

When my daughter was seven years old, she came home from soccer practice clearly downhearted. When asked, she told me what a teammate said: her teeth were too yellow. My heart broke for her. As parents, we try to keep our children safe, but we can’t always be there to protect our kids from unkind words. I tried to comfort my daughter. I told her that she has a beautiful smile with nice, strong, healthy teeth. I explained why she shouldn’t let someone else’s criticisms define her. On the inside, though, I worried. From my youth, I’ve struggled with the concept that my self-worth was directly related to my physical appearance.
When I became a mom, I was terrified that this concept would take root in my daughter. I wanted to protect her little ears from unkind words that might influence her idea of self-worth. I wanted to shield her little eyes from unrealistic beauty standards promoted by magazines, television, and movies. I wanted to guard her little heart from being broken by the idea that she didn’t live up to the standards in some way.
On social media, the battle became exceptionally greater. Every day we are bombarded (轰炸) with people living their “best life”, all told through filters (过滤器) which only highlight the “best” parts: best angles, best locations, best outfits, and best hair. Rarely do we get a glimpse of reality. On social media, outer beauty controls everything.
How, then, can we teach our kids that they are much more than their appearance We can start by modeling kindness, empathy, and self-acceptance in our own lives. Kids are incredible mimics (模仿者), so be mindful of what you say, even when you think your kids aren’t listening. If we are constantly putting ourselves down, our kids will follow suit. Instead, adopt a positive attitude when it comes to your own self-worth. Additionally, try to teach your children to see the inner beauty in themselves and in others. There’s beauty in strength, goodness, gentleness, perseverance, and kindness. Praise kids for their acts of kindness, like sharing with a friend or helping a family member without being asked, and talk to them about how it makes them feel.
24. How did the author react to her daughter’s trouble
A. Thrilled. B. Apologetic. C. Sorrowful. D. Curious.
25. What does the underlined word shield probably mean in paragraph 2
A. Cure. B. Fix. C. Broaden. D. Protect.
26. What can be inferred from paragraph 3
A. Everything in social media is not true.
B. Social media reflects an unrealistic world.
C. People like to share their privacy in social media.
D. People attach more importance to their physical appearance.
27. What should parents do to their kids
A. Tell them to behave themselves. B. Praise their kids for their appearance.
C. Set a positive example for their kids. D. Encourage their kids to ignore the outer beauty.

Dozens of honey bees, which usually feed on wild flowers after leaving their hives(蜂房)in the campus gardens, were tricked into the cottage to feed from an artificial flower. Only one bee was allowed in at a time, and their visits to artificial flowers were videoed and timed under different fan speeds, which mimicked(模拟)calm and windy days.
But the researchers are trying to help them: it is a controlled experiment that reveals how high wind speeds significantly reduce the efficiency of their feeding.
With no wind, the bees on average took nectar(花蜜)from 5.45 flowers during their 90-second time trial. When wind speeds were increased, this fell to an average of 3.73 flowers.
Researchers also examined the indirect impact of higher winds by moving the flowers.
The findings reveal that, while flower movement did not appear to have an effect on the bees, the movement of air from the fans made them much more hesitant to take off from a flower, with time taken ranging from an initial 0.05 seconds to 54 seconds.
Georgia Hennessy, lead author of the research, said that one possible reason for the wind causing hesitancy was that small increases in wind speed reduced the bees’ body temperature, so they require longer to warm up the flight muscles required to take off.
“With wind speeds predicted to increase in the years ahead, understanding how we can help bees in a changing climate is becoming ever more pressing. Although we can’t do much to control or stop the wind, we can take steps to reduce its impact on bees, such as placing hives in sheltered locations,” said Hennessy.
The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization warned last year that the decline in global bee populations was a “threat to global food security and diversity”.
Dave Goulson, professor of biology at the University of Sussex, said: “Bees already face many pressures in the modern world, such as loss of habitats and exposure to pesticides(杀虫剂), and a great many are in decline. Coping with increasingly windy weather under climate change may be the final straw.”
28. What task did the researchers set for the bees
A. Identifying the new route. B. Surviving in extreme conditions.
C. Feeding under different wind speeds. D. Distinguishing various kinds of flowers.
29.What probably makes a bee hesitant to take off from a flower
A. A full stomach. B. Loss of balance.
C. Changed flower positions. D. Reduced body temperature.
30.What can we do to reduce the impact of high winds on bees
A. Control or stop the wind. B. Change the location of hives.
C. Restore their damaged habitats. D. Prohibit the use of pesticides.
31.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text
A. Loss of bees causes failure of food crops.
B. Bees are on the decline as global heating worsens.
C. Bees may struggle in winds caused by global warming.
D. Artificial flowers are used for threatened bee populations.
D
French company Airseas, has promised to help cargo (货物) ships reduce their fuel consumption, and cut their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by an average of 20%. And they’re doing this with the Seawing—a 1,000 square meter kite that will fly 300 meters (984 feet) above the water’s surface. So the global shipping industry is apparently rediscovering the joy and efficiency of sails.
The large, ship-sized kite is currently being developed, and the company plans to open a factory to produce the Seawing in 2026. Once manufactured, Airseas has promised that launching and operating a Seawing on a cargo vessel(大船) will be automated, making it easy to use for crews. The kite and the equipment that launches it are mounted on a boat’s deck, and the crew can simply press some buttons and a large kite will rise into the sky. That’s not to say that the cargo ships won’t use their engines at all, but the kite will take some pressure off of those engines and will reduce the need for fuel. The wind will move the ship, just like it did for hundreds of years in the old days before industrialization.
Lowering emissions by 20% may not seem like a big deal, but moving vast amounts of goods back and forth on the high seas creates 3% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. That’s more than the airline industry, which produced about 2% of the world’s emissions in 2021, according to the International Energy Agency. Shipping is also a massive industry, and one worth focusing on for lowering emissions. About 90% of the world’s traded goods are moved around via shipping vessels, according to the International Chamber of Shipping.
Some companies are expecting this new version of sails. Japanese shipping company, “K” Line has placed orders for the Seawing kite, and the European Union has also invested more than $2 million in funding.
32. What is French company Airseas trying to do
A. Participate in kite-flying competitions. B. Make sea exploration easy and joyful.
C. Produce big kites to be used for sailing. D. Ship cargoes with low fuel consumption.
33. What’s the feature of the Seawing
A. It will completely replace engines. B. It will be a light-weight device.
C. It will be easily operated by crews. D. It will follow the cargo vessel at sea.
34. Why is the airline industry mentioned in paragraph 3
A. To confirm a prediction. B. To make a comparison.
C. To lead in a new topic. D. To analyze cause and effect.
35. What is the best title of the text
A The shipping industry is getting popular again.
B. The GHG emissions are being greatly reduced.
C. Seawing factories are to be opened in Europe.
D. Kites on boat are helping cut shipping emissions.
