My wife works while I stay at home and take care of our two kids and Wendell, an energetic dog. He loved to run but had to settle for our kids' slow walks until it hit me: I could build a dog wagon(拉车). A few days later, I transformed our old jogging stroller into a two-seat dog wagon with a screwdriver. Now when Wendell sees me pick up his harness(牵引带) I built from old leather belts, he races to the door, eager to pull the kids around the town at a pace that thrills us all.
When I left my law career four years ago, it was a promise to my children: I may not be able to buy you as many things, but you will know your father. So when we noticed a few inches of water had frozen in a deserted lot, we grabbed our ice skates and made it our own private rink. When my 5-year-old daughter became obsessed with ancient Egypt, we turned pizza boxes into pyramids. When my 2-year-old son wanted to be RoboCop for Halloween, I made his costume from recycled bottles and pieced his mask together from an old bike helmet and a wash bucket.
Creativity rubs off. Not long ago, my daughter asked me to build her a horse, and I made sure she was part of every step of the process that didn't involve power tools. She helped build her wooden toy horse from start to finish - drawing the design, then painting the final coat. Something that previously existed only in her imagination became a toy she could ride. Every project we finish feels like the fulfillment of a promise - it's not the things we create that matter but the time we spend creating things together.
24. Why did the author build a dog wagon
A. To improve his craft building skills. B. To meet the exercise need of his dog.
C. To recycle the broken jogging stroller. D. To provide a safer transport for the children.
25. Which of the following best describes the author's parenting style
A. Imaginative and hands-on. B. Traditional and safety-centered.
C. Encouraging and play-based. D. Adventurous and talent-focused
26. What does the underlined sentence “Creativity rubs off." in the last paragraph mean
A. Creativity lies in imagination. B. Creativity calls for observation
C. Creativity originates from daily life. D. Creativity spreads through interaction,
27.What does the text seem to advocate
A. Valuing quality family time with children.
B. Replacing store-bought toys with DIY projects.
C. Balancing a career with parenting responsibilities.
D. Adapting available resources to meet family needs.

Ignacio Vasquez, a 20-year-old college student, spent a year saving money for tickets to Bcyoncé's upcoming Cowboy Carter tour, only to find presale tickets priced at a minimum of $600 each and many at more than $l,000 - far beyond his budget. “The prices were just shockingly high,” Mr. Vasquez said and abandoned his plan.
In recent years, concertgoers have paid eye-popping prices for tickets to see popular artists like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Oasis on tour. But Gen Z fans- those born between 1997 and 2012 - are paying much more for concert tickets than previous generations did when they were young adults. In 1996, the average ticket price for the top 100 tours was $25.8l, or about $52 adjusted for inflation(通货膨胀), according to data released by Pollstar, a trade publication that covers the live music industry, By 2024, average ticket prices had risen to $135.92.
The live music industry has put today's young adults in an impossibly expensive position. For Gen Z, spending on concerts can be budget breakers. In a survey published last year by Merge, a marketing agency, 86 percent Gen Z surveyed admitted overspending on live events.
Fear of missing out, or FOMO, was cited as a top reason. Another survey by AAA, the automobile owners group, and Bread Financial, a financial services company, found that Gen Z are willing to spend more and travel farther to attend live events than older generations are.
Last year, Chricket Cho, 25, attended seven concerts in the United States and Canada. She spent $8,400 on tickets and travel for the shows. “I just feel like live music is something that makes me feel alive,” said Ms. Cho, an information technology auditor who ears about $100,000 annually. Ms. Cho said she didn't have a price cap for buying concert tickets. But she said soaring ticket prices had made her reconsider going to concerts if the artists weren't her “all-time favorites” like Ms. Swift or Bleachers.
28. Why does the author mention Ignacio Vasquez's experience in the first paragraph
A. To show the high prices of concert tickets.
B. To advise students against concert spending.
C. To stress Beyoncé’s popularity among Gen Z fans.
D. To illustrate the difficulty with concert ticket purchase.
29. What is the main reason for Gen Z's overspending on concerts
A. They are affected by inflation. B. They are afraid of being left out.
C. They long to support their favourite stars. D. They view concerts as an essential part of life
30. What can be inferred about Chricket Cho
A. She can't afford the high concert costs.
B. She regrets spending so much on concerts
C. She has a spending limit on concert tickets
D. She has become more selective about concerts.
31. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text
A. Gen Z Save Money for Concert Costs
B. Gen Z Beat Older Generations in Concert Love
C. Sky-High Concert Prices Break Gen Z's Budgets
D. Rocketing Ticket Prices Cool Gen Z’s passion for Concerts
D
We all pursue an ideal weight number for health and confidence, often using childhood memories, online calculators or BMI charts. However, Dr, Yoni Freedhoff warns these methods fail to consider individual differences. Our bodies change dramatically with age due to metabolism(新陈代谢) and lifestyle.
For decades, Body Mass Index (BMI) dominated weight assessments. This simple height-weight calculation sorts people from underweight to overweight, Yet Dr. Melanie Jayfrom NYU points out its problems: BMI gives the same ranges for 20-year-old athletes and 70-year-old grandparents. It ignores muscle mass, bone density, and health conditions, sometimes regarding fit individuals as overweight. Recent studies show that nearly 30% of people classified as overweight by BMI actually have healthy body fat percentages and normal metabolic profiles.
Newer metrics like the Body Roundness Index (BRI) focus on waist size instead of weight. “Belly fat is more dangerous than overall weight,” says D. Jay. Research indicates fat around organs produces harmful chemicals linked to diabetes and heart disease. However, even BRI has limitations - it can't distinguish between fat types or account for medical conditions affecting belly size, such as digestive disorders.
Doctors increasingly emphasize overall health markers over specific weights, “Instead of focusing on a ‘magic number,’ we examine blood pressure, cholesterol(胆固醇), sleep quality and energy levels,” notes Dr. Jay. For those with weight-related conditions, even 5-10% weight loss can significantly improve health. A 2023 study found patients who achieved modest weight reduction showed better health markers than those pursuing extreme weight loss.
The healthiest weight, experts agree, isn't found on charts but through sustainable habits, “When you eat nutritiously and stay active, your body finds its natural healthy weight,” advises Dr. Freedhoff. For some, medications or surgery may help, but the real goal is lifestyle change - not to achieve an ideal number on your scale. True health, after all, is measured not by a momentary reading on a scale, but by the daily choices that nourish both body and life.
32. What does the second paragraph mainly talk about
A. The limitations of BMI. B. The standards of weight measurement.
C.The classification of health conditions. D. The health assessment of overweight people.
33. What is the main advantage of BRI
A. It clarifies different kinds of fat. B. It evaluates all types of body fat.
C.It measures highly risky body fat. D. It identifies harmful chemicals in fat.
34. What is Dr. Jay's suggestion for weight assessment
A. Stopping using BMI. B. Focusing on specific weights.
C.Considering multiple health signs. D.Adopting rapid weight loss approaches.
35. What does the author think of people's pursuing an ideal weight number
A. Reasonable. B. Practical. C. Dangerous. D.Unnecessary.

People develop nicknames for all sorts of reasons. While some nicknames (绰号) are fun and friendly, others can be unkind or hurtful. 36 But don't worry-with the right methods, dropping an unwanted nickname is entirely possible. Here are some easy steps to help you reclaim your real name and establish how you wish to be addressed.
37
Think back to when the nickname first started. Who initiated it Was it meant to be friendly, funny, or a little mean The context determines your approach. For example, if a loving family member gave the nickname, you might explain your feelings gently, but if classmates used it to tease you, you can be more direct about wanting it to stop.
Express your preference clearly.
If you want to be called by your real name, express this preference openly and firmly. 38 For example, instead of saying, “You know, I don't really like being called ‘Sparky’,” try something like, “I prefer to be called [Your Full Name] from now on.”
Stick to your request.
This is crucial. You'll likely need to remind them of your preference many times, especially in the beginning. 39 Gently correct them each time. A simple, “Actually, please call me [Your Name],” delivered calmly but consistently, can be very effective.
Set boundaries.
40 If someone keeps using the nickname after you've asked him or her not to, you might need to set clear limits. This could involve politely leaving the conversation or restating your preference.
Dropping an unwanted nickname takes time and effort. With patience and persistence, people will learn to respect your preferred name.
A. Trace the origin story.
B. Challenge the nickname.
C. This can help you start a nickname-free life.
D. This way, people are more likely to take it seriously.
E. Once a nickname sticks, it can be difficult to change
F. Be clear about what you will and will not respond to.
G. Don't get discouraged if people make the mistake repeatedly.

Should AI-Created Paintings Be Considered Real Art
第一节(满分25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lena's father had always been a man of few words. Since her mother passed away five years ago, he had shouldered the responsibility of raising her alone, working double shifts(班次) as a taxi driver to support his family. Their small apartment was always filled with an unspoken tension - the kind that comes from two people living together but never truly connecting, except that, each night, he’d leave a glass of warm milk on her desk with his usual “Don't stay up too late.”
One Saturday, while cleaning the store room, Lena came across an old shoebox. Driven by curiosity, she took it out and couldn't wait to find out what was inside. When she opened it, a scent of old paper greeted her. Inside were many black-and-white photos from before she was born. One photo caught her eye - her young father kneeling in a sunny field, smiling happily as he took pictures with a camera. He looked so different from the tired man she knew now.
That evening, as they sat across from each other at their usual silent dinner, Lena gathered her courage. “Dad,” she began hesitantly, “I found some old photos today...”, Her father's fork froze mid-air. He quickly looked at her, then away. “That was a lifetime ago,” he murmured, pushing his food around his plate. After a brief silence, he added quietly, “Had to sell that camera when you started middle school,” The way his voice cracked on the last word made Lena's heart ache.
The next day, she searched online and found Thompson's Vintage Camera Shop - a family-owned store just three blocks from her school. Mr. Thompson, a kind-eyed man in his sixties, had a similar camera her father once owned. When she explained her situation, his face softened, “How about this ” he said, “You help me around the shop after school for a month and the camera is yours.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
For a month, Lena raced between school, homework, and the camera shop.
On Father's Day, Lena woke up early to prepare her surprise.

参考范文1:109
I strongly believe AI paintings are a new way for people to be creative, which deserves recognition and appreciation.
Firstly, with the development of technology, AI is another new tool for artists to show their artistic intention and vision, just like oil painting and digital art. Secondly, many AI paintings deeply move viewers with astonishing creativity and visual appeal, which is what art seeks to achieve. Most importantly, creating meaningful AI art requires significant human involvement and artistic judgment, thus ensuring the genuine aesthetic and conceptual depth of the final output.
Therefore, if a painting can touch people's hearts and stimulate thoughts, its origin shouldn't determine its artistic value.
参考范文2:110
While AI paintings may look impressive, I don't think they should be considered real art.
Primarily, AI can't think or feel but only follows data rules. The creation fails to show the real emotions and life experience of the creator. Furthermore, the creative process is fundamentally different. Human artists carefully choose what to paint to express their ideas, while AI responds to prompts without emotional drive. Ultimately, it's not fair for real artists who work very hard if we take AI-created paintings as real art.
Real art requires human emotion, intention and life experience. Therefore, we should appreciate AI images as technological achievements, but not confuse them with genuine artworks.
参考范文:
For a month, Lena raced between school, homework, and the camera shop. Every afternoon, Lena worked at the camera shop, helping Mr. Thompson and serving customers. Her hands grew rough from organizing film rolls and polishing lenses, and her feet ached from standing for long hours. Though exhausted, she cherished the hope of seeing her father's smile again - the way he did in those old photographs. One evening, Mr. Thompson handed her a box. “Your hard work paid off,” he said warmly. Lena's hands trembled as she cradled the camera. Her eyes glistening with gratitude, she whispered, “Thank you, Mr. Thompson."
On Father's Day, Lena woke up early to prepare her surprise. She placed the camera on the kitchen table and waited nervously. When her father came in for breakfast, his weary eyes widened at the sight. After a short pause, his hardened fingers traced the camera's edges gently, as if touching a memory. For a moment, there was silence. Lena broke it with a soft “Happy Father's Day, Dad!” “Thank you! This means more than you know. Let's take a photo together,” his voice cracked with emotion. Lena finally saw it - the smile from the photographs. The click of shutter dissolved years of quiet tension, connecting them at last.
