1. Sometimes my friends and I argue but don’t know how to make up.有时候我和朋友们吵架,但不知道如何和解。
argue作动词,意为“争论;争吵”，其常见用法如下:
argue with sb与某人争论
I argued with my best friend.我和我最好的朋友吵架了。
argue about sth就某事争论
Let’s not argue about small details.咱们不要在细枝末节上争论了。

【拓展】argue 的名词是argument,意为“争吵;论点”。

2.Some of you may prefer texting,有些人可能更喜欢发短信，prefer作动词,意为“较喜欢”。过去式是preferred,现在分词是preferring,其常见用法如下:
prefer A to B喜欢A胜过B
I prefer tea to coffee. 比起咖啡,我更喜欢茶。
prefer (doing) sth更喜欢做某事
They prefer walking to school.他们更喜欢步行上学。
prefer + that从句 宁愿/希望……
I prefer that we leave early. 我希望我们早点离开。
【拓展】prefer 的常见搭配:
①would prefer意为“更想要”,委婉表达愿望。
I would prefer a window seat.
我更想要靠窗的座位。
②prefer ... rather than ...意为“宁愿……也不……”。
She prefers to text rather than call.
她宁愿发信息也不打电话。
3. If you stay calm and say sorry, it will help.
如果你保持冷静并道歉,这会有所帮助。
calm作形容词,意为“镇静的;沉着的”。
keep calm意为“保持冷静”;calm down 意为“冷静下来”。
Stay calm when facing problems.

【辨析】calm、quiet、silent与still
calm 强调“情绪或环境的平静” The lake looks calm in the morning.
早晨的湖面看起来很平静。
quiet 指“声音小或没有噪声” “Be quiet”said the teacher.

silent 强调“完全无声” They nodded in silent agreement.
他们默默地点头表示同意。
still 指“静止不动” The children wouldn’t keep still.
