In a small village in Alaska, people live in harmony with nature. They are aware of the importance of protecting the environment and the animals living in it. One day, the village teacher decided to take the second-grade students on a field trip to learn more about their surroundings. The children were excited to hunt for signs of wildlife, search for different types of plants, and watch over the bay.
During their adventure, the teacher talked about how some animals are under pressure due to changes in the environment. She explained that animals like the Arctic cucumber have to adapt to colder temperatures and less food. She also mentioned that some species might die out if we do not take action to protect them. The children listened carefully, realizing how every action they take can either help or harm the environment.
The teacher reminded them that on average, each person could make a difference by being concerned about the environment and making progress in how they treat it. She encouraged the children to recycle, save water, and refrain from using plastic. The students felt inspired and decided to start a project to clean up the bay area.
As they worked together, they learned to solve problems and recover from mistakes. They felt proud of their work and understood that living in harmony with nature was not only important but also possible.

Facial recognition cameras are everywhere, including in your smartphone. Many people rely on this technology to unlock their phones, open doors or make quick payments, but everyone is wearing mask. What a hassle!
Now, tech companies have updated their software. Facial recognition technology can now identify people even if they are wearing a mask.
Beijing-based tech company Hanwang has announced a software which can correctly recognize 95 percent of people wearing masks, Engineering & Technology (E&T) reported. What’s the secret It’s all about your eyes.
Marios Savvides, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, US, studies facial recognition technology. “As we get older,” he said, “our faces change shape, but not the area around our eyes. It stays the same—even if we put on weight.”
Another company has also been working on this kind of software. Tech5 has AI that measures the shape of your face. It also scans your iris (the colored part of your eyes). Tech5 hopes to ignore all of the face below the nose.
Facial recognition software is about more than just unlocking your phone. It’s about public safety. Touchless verification (验证) has become extremely important due to the COVID-19. More than that, facial recognition can be used to fight crime (犯罪). “It can detect crime suspects,” said Huang Lei, Hanwang’s CEO. Hanwang’s technology is used by police in high-security settings. This means places like government buildings, subway stations and airports, Huang admits one big weakness of this new technology: It fails when people wear both masks and sunglasses. “In this situation, all of the key facial information is lost, but I believe we can overcome the weakness in the future,” said Huang.

You're probably already heard that 35 million tons of food go to waste every year in the United States. Every family in the nation loses from $1，600 to$2，000 each year to food that is bought but not eaten. That loss is more than what it costs to feed a family of four for an entire month. It's unbelievable. However, food waste not only happens in the US. Global food waste is very serious, with over a fifth of food going to waste.
Why is so much food wasted The food that is left to go bad, or that is thrown away, only makes up about nine percent of the world's food waste. The other ten percent is due to over eating. Meat production can also cause waste. For example, it takes 1.08 billion tons of crops to produce 240 million tons of animal products.
Therefore, we need to eat fewer animal products and pay attention to our personal food waste, whether it is from over eating or throwing food away. Dr Peter Alexander, an expert on food waste, said, “Reducing (降低) losses from the global food system would improve food safety and help prevent environmental harm.”
There are plenty of ways to make changes to your personal food waste. Not over eating is a goal everyone can get behind. Eating your every meal until you are 80% full will keep you and the planet healthy. Not only is junk food normally where people are over eating, but it also takes more energy to produce it than naturally occurring food. Buying local produce and meat is another easy way to do your part. Before you reach for another bag of cookies, make sure you aren't just throwing food away by doing so.Pay attention to what you eat and how it made its way to you. The planet will thank you.
